It's ironic that Strange as a character is always presented this lone sorcerer type (apart from Wong of course) when he actually works much better generally as part of an ensemble or as a supporting role.
Not to say you can't have some really good stories about his corner of the verse but he needs a strong group of characters to play off IMO.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Strange is a social butterfly, he teams up with who ever is useful to his current problem or whomever the current cosmic nasties are targeting, but he never has loyalty to a set roster of super friends.
The Defenders in the comics has of roster mostly of "who ever Strange wants at the moment" with maybe the exception of Valkyrie who is a legitimate mainstay.
Not that I'm too knowlagable of The Defenders.
A new Cinemark trailer. And we get a new GIF
out of it.
It's one of the best because it's so unique. He defeated the villain not by killing him, but by annoying him.
One of my unpopular MCU opinions: I never liked the Dormammu scene. I like the concept, but I don't like it when a villain's (especially a climactic villain's) defeat is played for laughs. I just don't.
It's all in the framing for me. I can imagine a version of that scene that probably wouldn't be as iconic but wouldn't annoy me. XD
but see, that's why I'm not a highly successful writer.

Kaze ni Nare!![]()
That's why I said I like it conceptually. On paper, I love the idea of someone having the willpower to do what Strange did, but I don't think the scene really focused on that. It's there, but the scene is definitely more of a triumphant "Aha! Get fucked, Dormamu" moment once the film reveals what's happening. I wish the film had focused more on how hard the whole ordeal must have been for Strange.

Kaze ni Nare!In fairness, us MCU fans have a habit of finding what's supposed to be a super dramatic moment completely hilarious.
I remember reading how Joe Russo was shocked that people were laughing at Tony shooting Sam with his repulsor after he apologized for shooting Rhodey out of the sky in Civil War.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."
To me, it felt like Tony was being spiteful and angry towards Sam even though it really wasn't his fault that Rhodey got shot down. I guess you could argue it could be looked at through funny lenses, but I didn't really think so. And neither did the Russos, apparently.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."The Dormammu scene is funny in a "Crosses the Line Twice" kind of way.
Seeing Strange being brutally murdered?: Horrible.
To see Strange being brutally murdered every so often, while he repeats the same phrase?, hilarious.
That's pretty much my problem with the scene. It's really hard for me to appreciate the willpower it must have taken for Strange when the cuts are so rapid.
I had a similar problem with that one Doctor Who episode where the Doctor literally spent 4 billion years punching a diamond wall to break through it. By the time you learn that that's what he's doing, the editing speeds up and the tone becomes triumphant, so it was hard for me to really feel the gravity and the strength it must have taken to manage it, since the editing, by virtue of being so fast, made it look easy.
But then, I'm weird. I gladly watched the Endless Eight arc of Haruhi Suzumiya (which is the same episode 8 times over) because I loved how committed they were to making the audience feel like they were part of the same endless loop the characters were.

Kaze ni Nare!

Strange is also more interesting as the OP wizard genius who has to work with others, so I'm very excited to see him interact with others more.
He was great in No Way Home.
