I still don't think "Excuse Plot, but for Extreme Sports" is a tropeworthy distinction.
And hey, idk, the examples do seem bash-y to me. Which ones do you dispute, Zuxtron?

I don't think that saying a movie has a light/flimsy/excuse plot is necessarily pointless bashing, if it's done in acknowledgement that most people are there to see cool stunts rather than to get engrossed in the plot. So a bashy example to me would be one that says a movie is bad because it has an Extreme Sport Excuse Plot, not merely saying that it's bad AND has an ESEW. And saying that it's good, mindless fun is acceptable to me.
An Extremely Goofy Movie does kinda look like it treats the trope as an absolute negative in some of the examples given. Perhaps Blue Crush is kinda negative too. The other ones in the folder are either okay, or the problem is something other than negativity (The Skydivers is a ZCE).
A lot of them do see complainy to me, personally; a lot of them do sort of at least imply that the trope is a problem or that the lack of a plot is a negative thing. But maybe that's more to do with the fact that the trope itself has a negative connotation or at least a negative name? But IDK. I'm just seeing more issues than you are I guess. We might need more people to weigh in.
Wouldn't Excuse Plot have the same issue though?

I looked through the on-page Excuse Plot examples myself, and while most were neutral, I did see a handful of complainy ones.
Excuse Plot would need its own check. I do think that the word "excuse" carries a negative connotation though.
The issue that would come out of this is that Excuse Plot doesn't really have a better option for a name. But that is for the thread.
Right, for this we need to determine if this plot even needs to be an Excuse Plot at all (and if the examples on the wick check are complainy enough to be a problem).
Hooked a crowner with the rename and retool options that were previously suggested. If Excuse Plot needs work, that would need a separate thread with a separate wick check.
Calling in favor of rewriting and renaming. Get a list of names ready, and sandbox the rewrite if necessary.
I had already suggested Extreme Sports Plot.
Crowner hooked with what was suggested, but with both singular "sport" and plural "sports" in the options for names, since the current name already uses "extreme sport" instead of "extreme sports".
Calling in favor of Extreme Sports Plot. Get a sandbox ready.
I made Sandbox.Extreme Sports Plot. I trimmed off the parts that were put there because of the "excuse" aspect, but I'd like it if someone could double check to make sure I didn't trim anything that I shouldn't have.
The first part of the description might need a full rewrite. I think for the purposes of Extreme Sports Plot beginning with "So you want to" may make it harder to write in a manner that gets across what the trope is.
I'm trying to figure out a good way to start the description, but I'm kind of stuck.
I thought really hard about the three Fast and Furious movies I've seen and coughed something up on the sandbox. I'm having trouble writing more since I didn't think it was all that tropeworthy to begin with, so maybe someone else can fill more things in.
It's good enough, so I moved it to Main.Extreme Sports Plot.
Maybe we should try drafting Extreme Sports Plot in TLP, at least just for an example drive?
I think cleaning up the complaining would be sufficient, because the wick check still turned up an okayish amount of acceptable examples (34/72 examples). That's not a large amount, but it's still above the threshold for what we consider thriving.

Wick cleanup is done, so closing.
Crown Description:
Consensus was to rename and rewrite Extreme Sport Excuse Plot. What should its new name be?
...And with that in mind, maybe it's not such a good idea to bring in The Problem with Licensed Games. Clearly I am not good at identifying complaining.
