Unless I'm reading this wrong, the winning option for the poll is to "Regulate to follow the You'd Expect/Instead format". Yet ~Wiry Ailuropodine is taking this opportunity
to wholly delete entries under the justification "What An Idiot has been deemed flame bait and, as such, has been dewicked."
I deeply apologise. I'd gotten word that What An Idiot entries had been deemed Flame Bait and had not gone further into the manner. Several YMMV pages I am following had had their What An Idiot entries deleted, so I merely assumed that any entries present on a YMMV page should be deleted. While going through several YMMV pages (for unrelated reasons) I noticed that What An Idiot examples had not been touched, and merely assumed that the troper responsible for the aforementioned removals had not gotten to them. So I took it upon myself to remove them.
Once again, I deeply apologise if this was the incorrect choice of action, and I will personally re-add all of the entries I removed if that is what you wish to be done.
They're not allowed on YMMV pages because it's Darth and Flame Bait (no Flame Bait wicks are allowed on non-Flame Bait pages, and Darth wicks are limited to Darth pages), but they're still allowed on Flame Bait pages, including What an Idiot!'s subpages. We're not completely forbidding examples like what we did with Internet Backdraft and Snark Bait; we're just moving them to Darth Wiki.
Regulating the proper format isn't the only thing that has consensus. Here's the full list
.

I got a rock for Halloween.Below was an in-universe example in the page for Wonder Woman 1984 that got cut:
- What an Idiot!: In-universe. In the opening sequence, the four robbers have a pretty decent plan that would allow them to get in and out without notice. One of the robbers messes it up by having an unsecured pistol tucked in his pants that he drops as they all leave the jewelry store. When he gets noticed, one of his partners tries to appear like another patron, and the robber outs him immediately by calling out to him. Then he panics and holds a child over a railing. How he expected this to allow him to get away is anyone's guess. Even his partners are horrified by this and try to argue him down with one even saying "what are you doing".
I found this initially and changed the link to Darth Wiki because, similar to Periphery Hatedom and Character Derailment, I would think Flame Bait is okay on the main wiki as long as it's in-universe. Now, however, it's been point blank deleted just simply stating "not allowed on main page". What should be done to examples like this?
![]()
That might have been more due to it being Darth than it being Flame Bait, since Most Annoying Sound was made Darth without being made Flame Bait and was removed from non-Darth pages. The other Flame Bait pages you mentioned are in Main/.
I'm not entirely sure whether there's a policy either way on in-universe examples of Darth and Sugar items.
Edit: Neglected to mention that Stupid Crooks might cover that example in addition to Nice Job Fixing It, Villain!.

I got a rock for Halloween. If not already, I recommend using "moving to Darth Wiki section as per TRS" in edit reasons or something elaborate like that, because people keep noticing the removals and assume they should be cut.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI usually link to the mod post that finalized the decision when doing wick cleaning. (Which often results in me linking to my own posts these days due to TRS seeing the vast majority of my mod work.)
I got a rock for Halloween. When I was cleaning up Weird Al Effect wicks, I saw that someone changed the namespace for What an Idiot! from Main/ to DarthWiki/ an example on YMMV.Final Fantasy IX despite What an Idiot!'s Flame Bait status meaning it doesn't belong on that page. The only reason I didn't delete it was in case anyone wanted to move it to a more fitting subpage if it hasn't been moved already.
I got a rock for Halloween.I mentioned a couple of pages ago that a troper had started slashing and burning YMMV pages almost from the second the crowner was called in favour of flamebait and moving to Darth. I've managed to salvage some legitimate ones and transfer them to the relevant WAI sub-page, so that they can go through a proper clean-up.
Since it appears that multiple tropers have begun performing a slash-and-burn on YMMV pages without bothering to check if the examples are legitimate or found on the WAI sub-pages (in other words, not checking whether something should be removed or moved), I would suggest we approach clean-up in two stages: a pre-clean step, then the actual clean-up.
Pre-clean step: Start with YMMV pages and work through them to see if they're already on the WAI pages. If they are, we can remove them (reason: duplication), if they aren't, we move them to the relevant WAI page and then delete them from the YMMV page.
Clean-up step: With the YMMV pages all dealt with and the WAI entries concentrated in one place (WAI and its sub-pages), we can focus on cleaning up the actual entries.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. That sounds OK, but you'd have to get every cleanup editor involved. Some people are just cleaning it up because they see the flame bait icon and don't understand the context behind it.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallThe "WAI is now Flame Bait" mass cutting by Rebel Falcon still hasn't been repaired. Has he been notified about his actions?
Ok, what's the official policy with this right now? Because I see one Amuck Cricetine that keeps going from YMMV to YMMV and simply cutting it, no explanation, no markers, no nothing, while other people handling WAI are marking it with % and add commentaries

The policy is to move valid examples and cut ones that either don't have enough context or just don't fit the definition. What they're doing is the wrong way to handle it. Yet another "slash and burn" troper on our hands.
Edit: Actually, maybe not. Looking at their edits, I see them deleting stuff, but it's all unformatted junk. They should probably be using edit reasons and notes though.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallYeah. I know. I'm brainstorming at the moment.
I've noticed that the other problem we've got is people dumping the old YMMV WAI entries that are being slash & burned straight into Idiot Ball without consultation — turning audience reactions we haven't even confirmed are legitimate yet into objective examples. I've undone one by ~Ordeaux26 on the RWBY pages, pointing out in my edit reason that shifting audience reactions to objective tropes without consultation isn't really helpful right now — the YMMV page was slashed and burned by ~Tylerbear12 almost as soon as the Flamebait decision was made, so there may have been a legitimate "how do we save these cut examples" concern. However, I've already merged the entries they removed into the WhatAnIdiot.Web Original RWBY section to ensure they'll go through clean-up without be lost.
We may need to check Idiot Ball doesn't need a clean-up at the end of this as well. I would assume that a WAI clean-up can determine if entries are valid Idiot Ball examples instead of WAI entries during clean-up. Given the audience reaction nature of WAI, a direct transfer of an example from WAI to Idiot Ball (if that turns out to be the right thing to do) may involve rewriting examples to accommodate the new trope anyway.
Should we start using the WAI clean-up thread, or are we going to create a new thread for this?

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Since we already have a cleanup thread, resurrecting that one seems to make the most sense.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallOkay, I've put a starter post on the existing clean-up thread here
. It's nothing more than a "here's the current situation, how do we approach clean-up" entry just to get the ball rolling, including a link to Gaston's post confirming the results of the crowner (I'm happy to correct the post if my understanding of the current situation is flawed).

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Justice League Unlimited S 3 E 12 Alive was cut for what seems to be this reason and there is no way for me to retrieve it as it wasn't archived, is there anything to do?
Also when it comes to the Idiot Ball stuff I only did that as It seemed to fit better there to me, sorry if that isn't helpful. I am trying to help save the valid examples that were cut just because of the change.

I mean, maybe some of the examples could count as Idiot Ball, but certainly not all of them.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallThe problem I was having is a lot of them didn't follow the correct format and seemed written more for different tropes, like some I thought fit Idiot Ball better, maybe I was wrong in some cases though.

Crown Description:
What should be done with What An Idiot? Not all options are mutually exclusive.

So should those examples just be cut?
