Wait a sec, wouldn't troping people playing in this game be violating No Real Life Examples, Please!?
Edited by Ordeaux26 on Jan 4th 2022 at 1:05:55 AM
I think so. I know with reality shows is not to trope people, but rather their portrayals on the show, but game shows are a bit different and the entries may be stealth real life entries.
And quite frankly I'm glad there are no real life examples on this trope. I can't even imagine how bad the Troper Tales page for this must have been *shudders*

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallYeahhh, Reality Shows are one thing- those are edited enough to essentially make all the contestants into fictionalized versions of themselves, and editing can make someone seem way dumber for something that wasn't actually dumb in reality. But a game like Jeopardy is too real.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallYou may want to take a look at WhatAnIdiot.Go Animate. I used to contribute to that page and I regret doing so - a lot of it is complaining.
I understand getting rid of “What An Idiot” from YMMV because the name is just an opening for people complaining that things didn’t go the way they wanted.
However, would it not make more sense to rename it with something along the lines of “Writer Induced Stupidity” and explain that it’s when a character ignores the obvious solution to their problem and instead makes the decision that will result in more drama.
This might have already been explained, but if it was, I missed it.
Well, we already decided on the move, and I don't see how your solution would reduce complaining. It might be covered by Idiot Ball or perhaps Complexity Addiction.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. We're not axing it, it's just being moved to Darth.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallBut that IS axing it. Any trope that's market as Flame Bait (which is Darth) is removed from YMMV pages, since it's now Darth and comes with the flamey icon. We might as well just remove the trope entirely and be done with it, since it has the same practical effect.
I've got within past few hours over a dozen of pop-ups from YMMV pages, where LEGIT WAI entries were removed, with the disclaimed of "What An Idiot is now Flame Bait" for them. Which is also the only way I know there was any sort of dispute or decision over that trope going, too.

You know, you could still read the entries in Darth. I don't know why everyone is treating Darth like it's the equivalent of cutting. Just because you can't put it on YMMV doesn't mean it's not viewable in some form. If people know about it already (which they do) it will live on like other Darth Wiki pages such as So Bad, It's Horrible or Fallen Creator or the DMOS pages. At least it didn't get an Example Sectionectomy, some tropes actually have gotten that like Internet Backdraft or Snark Bait.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallYeah, there's not much that changes here other than that restricting entries to Darth allows us to keep complaining at bay and more easily vet the examples added. Anything valid is being moved over, and a lot of work-related subpages will probably still be kept around.
I'll be the first to admit that getting to Darth is a PITA, but that's because the site has horrible navigation in general, and not because it's intentionally hard to get to. But searching "What An Idiot" in the search bar will take you right there...

Hey no need to be rude. Darth is not anywhere near the equivalent of a complete cut. I already mentioned examples of Darth pages that get lots of activity even though they are in Darth. I don't know why you are getting so angry over this. We are a wiki, not a place to whine and complain.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallIt depends- were they cleaned up? If they don't have enough content left, the pages need to go. We just can't slash and burn like some people enjoy doing with these things.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallWe need to review the subpages before cutlisting them.
EDIT: Checking the cut list, the reason given for every page I could see was "What An Idiot is Flame Bait". These cuts should be declined.

I declined them all. Please don't unilaterally mass cutlist pages without discussion like that.
I don’t really get how the subpages needed to get razed down like this anyways. It’s not like Flamebait pages can’t have example subpages.

Macron's notesYeah, that's what I meant when I said people really like to use cleanups as an excuse to slash and burn. We saw it with GCPTR, we saw it with SRO, and we're seeing it again here.

Do we have a rule against doing that? If not, we probably need one.
It's not just the pages that were already mentioned whose pages saw mass cutlisting. People also did that for the Main.Famous Last Words thread because they didn't know that we moved its examples to JustForFun.Famous Last Words.
I got a rock for Halloween.
Adding pre-commented examples is against the rules, per How to Write an Example. If you want to move examples, only move ones that follow the correct format (the "You'd Expect"/"Instead" format).

I got a rock for Halloween.
Crown Description:
What should be done with What An Idiot? Not all options are mutually exclusive.

I've railed on WhatAnIdiot.Jeopardy in the past; mere incorrect responses aren't enough for WAI.
If the clue is looking for a president and someone rings in with "Who is Al Gore?", that can qualify for WAI, and two different examples of that are on the page. On the other hand, "Who is Bill Clinton?" wouldn't qualify, because it fits the category even if it happens to be incorrect.
