Funny considering Nico's one encounter with Spider-Man in the comics consisted of him trying to reason with the kids when the Avengers were looking for Cloak and Dagger, Gert blowing him off, and Nico showing up, attacking him, and putting him to sleep because they don't trust adults.

They've had almost zero encounters with him since then as far as I know.

[up] And? Superhero adaptations making two characters who have barely if at all interacted in the comics be friends is common and I'm fine with this show doing it, especially since it needs to differentiate itself from all the other Spider-Man continuities.

I wasn't very interested in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man but the trailer succeeded in making me curious.

It's more a thing with the last several cartoons all making Peter's supporting cast mostly if not entirely other super people.

So this cartoon isn't doing anything different in that regard.

[up] None of those people were Nico Minoru and she also seems to be the only super in his friend group (I know that Daredevil and Dr. Strange are going to appear but they will presumably be adults who won't hang out with Peter out of costume so I'm not counting them), so that's two different things that the show is doing.

Is Nico even a member of the Runaways in this continuity? Or was she before the show’s events?

[up][up][up] And Ultimate Spider-Man had Luke Cage, Ironfist, White Tiger, and Nova as Peter's classmates.

Sure it's not literally the same characters but the technical differences are irrelevant.

Amadeus Cho I recall is also confirmed to be appearing here.

[up][up] At the moment she appears to be just a normal student but the comic tie-in does have her mention sadly something happened back in LA that made her move.

For all we know it could be something that gets brought up later in the show.

Sounds like she'll have a focus episode with supervillain parents.

Which amazingly enough is actually something that's quite consistent with Spider-Man adaptations that bother to give some focus to Peter Parker's supporting cast. There's always that one classmate who has at least one supervillain mom or dad.

By the way, does anyone know where the phrase “your friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man“ even originated? Obviously it was long before this show, I was just reminded of it by the show.

I hope that if this cartoon succeeds, it motivates them to do more cartoons that don't have to be directly linked to the mcu

[up][up] I think it may have come from the 1967 cartoon. I'm not sure if it appeared in the comics before then, but that's the earliest I know the phrase is from.

Black, cyan, and yellow? Reminds me of another teen superhero. We’re they even thinking when they chose those colours?

Digging the art-style though Polygon Pictures’ awkward animation is still on display. I’m sorry, I can’t get over Peter’s design.

I wonder how strong Spider-man will be in this version?

Being that sometimes he's as strong as a Super-soldier, and other times he can lift 50 tons effortlessly.

[up] This.

Strong enough to face whatever villain is the threat of any given plot, but not so strong that said villain won't initially outplay or defeat him - forcing him to figure out a way to overcome them.

Pretty much.

Even in the comics, he's probably gone over his so called 10 ton limit plenty of times.

"As strong as he needs to be."

Just as every character of comic. (NFA)

Surely depending on the episode, he will suffer with normal humans and even get crushed by things like a refrigerator, and the next get beaten up by guys who lift dozens of tons and survive with minor scratches.

Yep, that's how superheroes - especially street level superheroes - work. It's how most action and adventure stories work, tbh.

The stories being substantial and written well is more important than strict adherence to power levels that are ultimately fairly inconsequential, after all.

https://www.animationmagazine.net/2025/01/your-friendly-neighborhood-spider-man-showrunner-jeff-trammel-gives-us-the-scoop-on-the-new-disney-show/

Jeff Trammell took part in an interview for the show. It's mostly about how he's a fan of Spiderman, and felt more freedom by not directly having this in the MCU. What is interesting is with the animation. It seems like he pushed for Polygon Pictures to be involved because of how they can have a 2D look for CGI. The other studio involved is CGCG (who worked on Abominable And The Invisible City, the 2021 CGI He Man show, and Curses).

Hoping it is okay to bring these things up in discussion at this point.

So, one thing I was struck by when I first saw the "teaser" image, I noticed that it looked like Peter's various costumes included the "Slingers costumes" that Peter wore in the comics when framed for murder.

So, I'm wondering if he will be framed here, or if they are just borrowing those designs.

Speaking of, I noticed that while the "Osborn suit" that Peter is shown using in the teaser trailer borrows the design of the Future Foundation suit, the way Peter is posed looking at his reflection mirrors (pun intended) the way it is shown in various media when Peter is possessed by the Venom symbiote.

And I note that in the current Ultimate comics, there seem to be heavy hints that Peter's Osborn-designed suit will be the equivalent of the symbiote (but with an evil AI instead of an alien).

Granted, the teaser image above also shows what looks like a (cool redesign of) the actual Venom, so who knows?

So, if Civil War happened in this universe, who stood in for Tony? I suppose Norman as Iron Patriot?
