The Trailing punctuation in trope custom titles thread, as well as many, many discussions over the past ten and a half years, have made it obvious that we need a centralized discussion thread for page titles. I intend for this thread to be a place to both discuss titles and request they be changed.
(If you're looking to capitalize an existing wikiword, there's a different thread for that.)
Nice Job Breaking It, Hero, Nice Job Fixing It, Villain
I doubt the exclamation marks are necessary. I don't think it adds anything to an entry, and these lines are not always exclaimed. GLaDOS's original inflection was softly sneery.
Agreed. In fact, that kind of sarcasm works much better when said in a rather deadpan, quiet way than when shouted out. Shouting tends to diminish the sarcasm.
Some of the pages on Anime use an ampersand when writing out "Anime & Manga", but this isn't done consistently.
More specifically:
- Fantasy Anime & Manga
- Gaming and Sports Anime & Manga
- Military and Warfare Anime & Manga
- Mystery and Detective Anime & Manga
- Science Fiction Anime & Manga
I'm guessing the "&" ones don't need a custom display. The rest on the genre list are just potholes that probably should be changed by hand.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupFighteer's post here says that custom titles shouldn't have ampersands in them unless it's in a work's official title.
Avatar by Butterscotch Arts. Used under license.Throw It In! - I think the ! is also unnecessary, and it also looks silly in-line. "The actors acted goofy for a minute, and the director decided to Throw It In! since she found it in character." But if it's usually shouted, then maybe it can be kept.
Yeah, that one can be dropped.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"That was done with work pages in mind; changing "and" to "&" in other circumstances is okay.
Most obviously, /AnimeAndManga itself is custom titled this way!
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool. Are you sure you don't mean trope pages rather than work pages? For work pages, the page should have the same title as the work, so it's pretty clear cut.
It's much more of a problem if people use ampersands, equal signs and other abbreviations in trope names. And here the rule is that trope names should be written as standard prose, that is, no ampersands.
Anime & Manga is not a trope name, though, but a medium (actually, two media), and apparently it's OK there.

Anime & Manga is fairly widespread as an example section label in TV Tropes, so it makes sense that it would also be used for example subpages. Of 10 random tropes with an anime and manga folder, 9 of 10note use an ampersand. The Media Categories page has used and since its creation in 2013, but the Media Categories FAQ has used ampersands since an editor added them in 2013.
I'm going to be honest - I have no idea why the "and" was and is replaced with an ampersand, and would personally very much like to stick with "and". Ampersands have their place, but I don't feel this is one.
I personally wouldn't mind either way, 'and' may be preferable.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup~St Fan has requested a trailing exclamation for I'm Taking Him Home with Me!, a redirect to a rope that already had the trailing exclamation approved.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. How does one even open a wikiword form on a page that redirects instantly?
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupFrom the "Related To" tab.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Ah, makes sense.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupRegarding Anime & Manga: The policy is that the wiki should use standard prose unless there's a reason not to, and in this case I can't really see any compelling reason to use an ampersand instead of "and".

The Exclamation point was already there in the redirect's custom title. What I request was for the "with" to be lowercase, as in the current trope title.
Your Soul Is Mine! ends with an exclamation mark now. Do we want to keep it that way, or change it back?
Also, I'm pretty sure that "is" should be capitalized, since it's the sentence's main verb.
I could go either way on that, as the exclamation adds a threatening tone.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/query.php?parent_id=106128&type=att#comment-106128
Funny.CaddicarusMainSeasons8To14 should be moved to Caddicarus Main Seasons 8 To 13, but it has over 100 edits in History. Do we do it manually or with powers?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576~Tropers/Idiosyncratic submitted Power Equals Rarity to read as "Power = Rarity". This violates the Sandbox proposal of "In some cases, you may replace text with symbols (e.g., "Zoidberg And Friends" to "Zoidberg & Friends"), but this only applies when the symbol is intended to be read as the word and the title uses the symbol exclusively." because the title isn't supposed to be read exclusively as a formula. I've rejected the request on that basis. (crossposted)
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Does anyone else think that Punctuation Shaker's custom title is a bit excessive?
Avatar by Butterscotch Arts. Used under license.Yeah, that's excessive.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.
Fan fiction is an odd case because we often disambiguate with the parent work rather than the year of publication, but I'm not sure what can reasonably be done about it.
