Kage definitely feels like a character who was included to smooth things over, in some ways, yeah.

It's been fun.

I've watched the first ten episodes of the anime and I think it's a great series.

I especially love Yuki Kaji as Daida screaming for help and Maaya Sakamoto as Miranjo being a Soft-Spoken Sadist par excellence. She has the most angelic voice I've ever heard from a villain and I think I've developed a crush on it.

Episode 11

I expected Daida's flashback to be longer based on the description on Amazon Prime. And I'm shocked to see King Bosse (in Daida's body) at knifepoint. Can't he beat the criminals from the Underworld with his giant club?

The scene of Daida seeing glimpses of Miranjo's past reminded me of Anthy and Dios' past in Revolutionary Girl Utena. I want to know more about Miranjo and Bosse.

I can't believe little helpless Miranjo would grow up to be like the first King Fritz in Attack on Titan (convincing King Bosse to conceive children for his ambition and later forcing his second son to eat his father's corpse to inherit his powers).

I love the art style. It feels like a new adaptation of a manga from the 60s or 70s.

Treasure Chest of Courage Episode 2: Always nice to see our little prince kick some butt.

Bojji and Kage also got to play with those weird forest creatures that look like ancient aquatic organisms!

Treasure Chest of Courage Episode 3: Hilling really is best mom. She went to hunt bandits so she could recruit Ann for her bandit rescue mission. Her ruse with the Death Magic spell was pretty clever, too! And for anyone that wanted to see Dorshe wreck people, here ya go!

Second half shows how precious young Daida is. It was heartwarming to see him get so invested in trying to learn healing magic, and especially to see him playing happily with his older brother.

Treasure Chest of Courage Episode 4: This is Ouken’s Start of Darkness. And we knew this before, but his father, Satun, was a piece of work.

Treasure Chest of Courage Episode 5: Three short stories this week. The most inconsequential of which was about Despa’s fat horse, showing us the perils of post-heartbreak binge eating.

I don’t remember if we’ve seen Flynn in the main story, but turns out he was the one who discovered where Miranjo, and subsequently the Demon, is. Nothing says badass quite like risking your life to save a friend, and I’m happy Desha opted to let him go. I hope we see him again!

Last part is mostly showing how Hokuro entered the castle guard to serve Bojji. Most interesting part of it was that Domas didn’t want to take him along at first. No doubt because Hokuro was going to be a loose end for when Domas eventually offed Bojji. Man, Kage and Hokuro really came in clutch there.

Treasure Chest of Courage episode 6: A glimpse at Bojji’s short but sweet tenure as king of Bosse kingdom. He’s still giving away his clothes, gods bless the cinnamon roll. I’m also happy to see Bebin get any screentime.

Of course we know that Bojji leaves to continue adventuring with Kage, and Daida proves to be worthier of kingship now compared to before. It was cool to see him actually interacting with his subjects, talking to them about their needs. And while I still have misgivings about Miranjo being Easily Forgiven, her becoming a teacher is a small step towards making amends.

Also this episode reminds me that we still do not know what is up with the ranking of kings system.

Treasure Chest of Courage episode 7: HUGE lore drop today with the reveal that Bebin studied under Despa! I remember speculating that Bosse provided the recommendation letter, but it turns out it was Bebin himself. He’s still my favorite of the Big Four.

Treasure Chest of Courage Episode 8: A tribute to Kage's and Bojji's mothers, back when they were still alive and happy.

The entire segment about Bosse and his wife is animated in a picture storybook style, and it is gorgeous. If this was your only experience with the series you'd be forgiven for thinking this was a fairy tale with a happy ending.

The Ranking Judge continues to smell like a con artist.

Episode 9 of Treasure Chest of Courage continues the children's picture book aesthetic for Miranjo's backstory, specifically her first meeting with the devil. I want an entire anime with this look, WIT.

Second part of the episode is about Bojji's preparations to leave the kingdom. Which involves giving people his personal treasures as mementos. WHAT A SWEETIE. He gave Daida the acorn they were playing with as kids. C'MERE GIMME A HUG. Interestingly enough, with the contents of this episode, especially the way one of the original's EDs starts playing when Bojji finally meets up with Kage, this episode would be a nice segueway to whatever's coming in season 2.

Oh, and Dorshe and Hiling ship is sailing smoothly. You love to see it.

Treasure Chest of Courage Episode 10: Remember how the Ranking Judge was talking to Desha last season? Well, remember that Desha agreed to become number one and it did not work out well for him. We got another loony king.

The treasure vault of the Ranking of Kings is incredibly SUS. That judge even straight up admits the swords they've given out were for facilitating massacres. Oh, and they've imprisoned a little demon girl to force her into being a wish granting factory.

I guess at least Ouken's back to normal... and apparently the shadowy figures running the ranking system have a sad enough backstory that Ouken couldn't help but sympathize with them. Apparently gods hate those guys so this might be a case of Rage Against the Heavens?

Cute little Bojji trying to learn more about the ways of the world. D'awww. Hope we get to see more of the little guy soon.
