This is one case of Easily Forgiven that utterly irks me. I almost wish Miranjo had been brainwashed. Would have been a copout, but it would have been exponentially better than what actually happened. And how old is Daida anyway? He should also apologize to Bojji for ordering the hit on him.
Just to add salt to the wound, this also means poor actually-brain-addled Ouken doesn’t get to be cured, and this ends up pushing Desha into accepting the shady deal with the ranking system. At least we’ll find out what happens with rank one then.
I remember Easily Forgiven stuff happened often, when writers decided to make all (or most of the) villains a "sympathetic and tragic figure", which sometimes resulted in writers creating Hate Sink type of groups or people, to be responsible for "tragic origin" of the villain and then villain does some truly horrid things, that while framed is as evil, hardly ever remembered and immediatly thrown aside, when it's time for the redemption.
The Easily Forgiven thing, I'm fine with. That's been the show's bread and butter. Bojji's motivating thought to face his father is remember Daida saving him, not ya know, the almost murder. Apeas basically gets forgiven immediately when she switches side and joins the other. Bojji's mom outright forgives Miranjo, the show goes through lengths showing not only how Miranjo got the way she is but that she kinda hates what she did too
Like, it wasn't gonna end any other way. The show's been foretelling this ending for like 10 episodes now.
I assume season 2 will give Miranjo a chance to show she's worthy of the forgiveness they gave her, sort of how Apeas got his
That said The betrothed bit is fucking weird. Daida's younger than Bojji... she's older than both to be an adult when Bojji was born.
I do like the plothook of Dealink with Ouken's curse, and Desha's deal with the rankings.
Despa has his own questionable actions but I’d definitely say it’s nothing compared to what Miranjo has done. Right down to her breaking promises with the Demon who has a shit deal himself all things considered.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Despa was deceitful, but he generally tried his best to avoid as much collateral damage as possible and stuck his neck out even when it would be at his disadvantage.
Also I find it wild as hell that the entire town that betrayed Houma gets treated the least sympathetically by the narrative including having Bosse kill everyone in it and use their body parts to fix up Miranjo with no one even saying a peep about how fucked up that was, while Miranjo who is pretty much the cause of every single misfortune Bojji went through, groomed Daida into being her tool with the intent of making him a prisoner of his own mind and never once even shown any hesitation or remorse on that and tried to get an entire kingdom destroyed twice gets to get away after 2 minutes in contract breaker hell before said boy that she groomed decided that actually he's wanted to marry her the whole time!
Like damn brat, at least take her to fucking dinner first
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysI'm just so flabbergasted that the same author who wrote Hiling, one of the most well-rounded and realized characters in several years (to say nothing of this season), ended up making his main villain more or less For the Evulz and one-two-three simple redemption, especially in such a weird way.
It probably would have been fine without the marriage proposal, but with it... yeah, just, no.
It's been fun.I still stand by that it was probably a combination of him and whoever his editor(s) are, since they tend to have sway over a mangas direction. And once you get this madness going it’s too late to stop.
Hilling in comparison definitely feels like her role in the story was absolutely preplanned so you can see the nuance in her, or how Bojji kept his speed and agility while his dad just got his brute strength even before we see what Bojji could do with it when under the right guidance.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Yeah the thing with Miranjo’s redemption is that while it was unsurprising, it also felt unearned. And the marriage proposal makes it even more unbelievable.

Yeah it’s a headscratcher, this is far below the level of writing I’ve come to expect from this show. I’m almost inclined to believe ![]()
about the Executive Meddling.
...This story definitely subvert my expectations. I definitely don't expect this kind of shit when I read/watch a fun throwback to fairy tales that is also willing to play around with the usual tropes found in fairy tales back then. Damn, this is Game of Thrones all over again! Ugh...
I'm not as witty as I think I am. It's a scientifically-proven fact.I can't believe this is the same anime that had me crying like a baby by the second episode. Damn shame.
When the bugs are big enough, you're the pest. You must've been watching a different show coz seriously, the Easily Forgiven thing was so telegraphed it practically had an herald with a trumpet to announce its coming.

If anyone asked me how this conflict would be resolved, that would absolutely not be my first guess. Not sure how I feel about it, NGL
Edit: Miranjo's whole handling reminds me of Rika from mystic messenger. Which is not a compliment.
