Needs Help: Home Pages

Content of the page is currently on Sandbox.Home Pages.

As pointed out on Administrivia.Namespace's discussion, Home Pages used to list all foreign language and JFF home pages, but it now redirects to the main home page. It's either due to a glitch or an intentional design choice that redirects all pages starting with "Home Page", but we can't really know that. I failed to receive any feedback in the Outdated pages thread in Wiki Talk and I'm pretty sure Ask The Tropers wouldn't be reliable...

I suggest renaming to Administrivia.Home Pages (but I'm not sure an index for main wiki content like this should be in Administrivia/, wouldn't fit Sandbox/ or JustForFun/ either) or List Of Home Pages (I know we don't like "List of" in page titles, Home Pages Index won't work), or just cutting and not worrying about translation pages considering most of them are kinda dead, the "please find an index to put this on" message no longer exists, and this doesn't have even 500 inbounds, potentially putting a list in the translation forum. What do you think?

Out of the suggestions given, my stance is that we should just cut this per reasons above.

I feel like restarting some may be the best idea.

I'm torn. I wouldn't mind restarting some, but the translation efforts are so slow that IDK if it's worth it.

Just to be clear, I was not asking if we should take action regarding a specific home page or language version. I was asking whether we need the Home Pages index here anymore, as it's currently a redirect due to a bug/intentional design choice and seems not as needed now, or if we can just rename it.

Renaming would be the simplest option and it would allow us to ignore the "translation projects are slow; should this page be cut?" issue.

We can also do nothing. Maybe this redirecting issue will get fixed. Maybe not.

Strangely, there's a French version of Home Pages that seems to be performing the same function(?): Pages d'Accueil

I'd imagine moving the index to Administrivia.Home Pages would solve the problem of the page redirecting to Main.Home Page, considering YMMV.Home Page doesn't do that, presumably because it's in the YMMV/ namespace.

Edit: Clicking on Administrivia.Home Pages doesn't do anything other than say that the page doesn't exist and showing a list of pages in other namespaces, but I don't know what would happen if the page did exist.

I'd merge Home Pages with Language Indices (Administrivia.Tv Tropes In Other Languages?), since they are practically the translations of Welcome to TV Tropes, and not listing actual home pages like Sub Wiki (which needs to be moved to Administrivia) does. And the redirect thing needs to be resolved (with Query Bugs) regardless.

TV Tropes In Other Languages and merging with those pages sounds like a cool idea. For the record, I didn't report this to Query Bugs as it's still maybe an intentional design choice done for reasons we don't know of.

I'm going to test whether Administrivia.Home Pages would redirect to the Home Page if it existed (as opposed to how now it's a red link and just shows the auto-disambig).

Edit: No, it doesn't. It seems like the Main/ namespace for Main.Home Pages is what's causing it to auto-redirect.

Also, I'm not saying we have to go with Administrivia.Home Pages as the name; I was just seeing if we'd have any technical issues if we did go with that.

Seems to us that the translation-project index being lost behind a hardcoded redirect might've been a reason translation projects were stalling out?

Pretty sure it started earlier... Like, the Golden Age of translations ended six years ago at least. But thx for the crowner.

I was assuming we could end up choosing a new name for the merged page if we merge the two (or just keep it at Language Indices if anyone would rather do that). The rename/namespace option was intended for if we keep the page separate from Language Indices while still fixing the auto-redirect issue.

I have nothing better than Administrivia.Tv Tropes In Other Languages yet, it sounds professional, at least in my understanding of how other websites make a language select page. Speaking of, if merged, it could be retooled into a hub of sorts with the help of TV Tropes Translation Project, and admins could consider adding it to the top bar in some future.

The overly aggressive code that caused Home Pages to automatically redirect to Home Page has now been fixed. You may need to clear your local cache to see it.

But that's done — do we still want to do the crownerables?

thanks. So I guess it was intentional, but went a bit too far. I'd say it would still be best to do the crowner action since I think merging those indexes and moving to a more professional page would probably make them more visible.

I guess the namespace move isn't that necessary then. Still, should Language Indices be moved to Home Pages as a section?
