When I first played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (well, 3D, being my first time playing the game outside of the brief Smash Bros. Brawl Masterpiece demo), I thought that the Master Craftsman and his son were the same character under some kind of curse that transforms him at night, since they appear under the same tree in Kakariko Village at different times, and their general moods were opposite of each other. It took until I did the Biggoron Sword Trading Quest and saw the son in the Lost Woods that I started to realize that they're different people.

And I have two from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. I first thought that the cyan Chaos Emerald was the Master Emerald, since I had just heard from a friend that there was a "Master Emerald" that was green but didn't see it, and I assumed that the "seven" Chaos Emeralds included the Master Emerald. So I assumed since I didn't know at the time exactly what cyan was(/didn't get that the Chaos Emeralds are colored off of the RGB color model), when I saw an Emerald that looked greenish but wasn't, that was some kind of indicator that it was the "special" Master Emerald or something like that, and for whatever reason I never assumed that the actual green one was the Master Emerald. It didn't help that my introduction to the series was Sonic Heroes, where IIRC the Master Emerald never appears.

The second and smaller one, in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I thought the Mushroom Hill Zone was naturally divided in to areas based on the seasons, and that you explore spring, autumn, and summer, picturing in my mind that spring would be "brighter greens" and summer "darker greens." According to a brief wiki look, the whole place is naturally bright green and in "summer," and Eggman's machine was messing with the weather and artificially changing the season — Act 2 sees the place being changed from summer to autumn to winter, and I guess the seasons "changing back" if you backtrack is either a result of game limitations, or that the setting is closer to winter the closer to the machine. I also assumed that the reason why the place turns to bright green when you disable the weather machine and start the boss fight had something to do with palette limitations, but it's intentional, you're undoing the unnatural season changes caused by it. Sonic Origins would make that last part clearer by showing the palette change to autumn and then back to summer when the weather machine is first hit, instead of instantly flashing back to summer.

I remember briefly thinking that my dad did the voice of Zazu from The Lion King (1994) just because he could do a pretty good impression of him.

I once read a children's book called When I Was Young In The Mountains. At one point they do a baptism where they lay a boy into the water, and his grandmother cries. I didn't know what a baptism was, so I thought they were drowning him and his grandmother was sad because he was being murdered. I was even more confused when my teacher suggested that they were tears of joy.

I forgot "plane" could also refer to a stretch of empty land, so for a while I thought hfjONE took place on an airplane.

On Flight Rising, I initially thought that the tertiary color of your progenitor dragons was related to the flight/element you chose, since I chose Plague (which is associated with the color red) as my flight, and both of my progenitor dragons have some shade of red as their tertiary color.

I also thought that your second progenitor would typically have similar colors to your first one, since mine also ended up that way — the main difference is that my first progen's primary color is a shade of blue, while my second progen's primary color is a shade of green.

I later learned that your second progenitor's colors are completely randomized (hence why the community tends to call them "random progenitors"), and so is the third color of your first progenitor — I just ended up with an interesting coincidence. Worth a mention that you do choose the first two colors of your first progenitor when you join (which is why the community tends to call them "custom progenitors").

When I first saw the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Move Along Home", I wasn't really paying attention during the cave scene, and thus somehow didn't notice that Dax was injured. What I did notice, however, was that she couldn't jump — so, because I knew she was an alien, I concluded that her species couldn't jump.

Here's something else about the pitch reel from my previous post. During the part where a cartoon segment gets tested on children, a child made an exclamation that, to me, vaguely sounded like the thing I thought Kermit said. That, along with me wondering if something said by another kid sounded like a "bad word" that was mentioned in a book on Between the Lions, made me worry that 1960's kids were potty-mouthed! I think another thing that made me worry about this was what my mom said to me after I was offended by the "Hey Stupid!" joke the first time I watched the pitch reel (about how it wasn't seen as offensive back then).

On the topic of the "Old School" DVD collections of Sesame Street, I remember explaining to my mom that I thought the reason for the "intended for grownups" disclaimer was because of "swearing graffiti" during the theme song, about which I said that people see that all the time. I thought this because I mistakenly thought I saw the word "bahookie", which I thought was a swear word after listening to the audio commentary of Open Season.

When I was a kid playing Super Mario 64, the Toads say that everyone in the castle are "trapped inside its walls." I thought they were being literal, that there were a bunch of other people literally in the walls. And because every Toad you talk to is right next to a wall, I thought they somehow managed to partially get free, but were still stuck to it.

I honest-to-Inari thought that Tim Allen was the voice of Kronk in The Emperor's New Groove. How? Because as we all know, excluding some projects and of course Lightyear (which features a "real" version of Buzz), Tim voiced Buzz Lightyear. For Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, I thought he still voiced Buzz throughout the series, unaware that voice actors don't always stick around with the same character til death. In fact, Tim only voiced Buzz in the PILOT movie, while for the series he was voiced by Patrick Warburton. I learned this roughly a year after "Emperor" came out.

I'd only seen the series finale of Iron Man: The Animated Series once before the DVD release of the series circa Iron Man 2, but before the internet and seeing screenshots, I'd thought the armor Tony donned in the final series was actually a version of the armor he sported during The Crossing (I hadn't even heard of the story at the time, I just saw the cover to the prelude issue of Iron Man) not realizing until later that the armor's design was another version of the Modular Armor design.

The first time I heard it, I thought that "Girl" by Beck was meant to be a sweet love song.

Blame Lyrical Dissonance, and the fact that I didn't hear lines like "And I know I'm gonna make her die / Take her where her soul belongs" at first.

For a while all I had actually seen of Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff was the image on the Stylistic Suck page. I thought that the man with the yellow shirt and basketball was either Sweet Bro or Hella Jeff. The guy in blue in the image actually is Hella Jeff, but Sweet Bro is a different character who doesn't appear on that particular panel, and the man with the basketball is a bit character who only shows up a handful of times.

Not sure if this counts since it's more of a wrong first impression, but I learned about Invincible through the "Think, Mark" meme of its animated series, all I knew at the time was very vague details of that scene, the title character's superhero name, and that his dad's superhero name was Omni-Man. And I skimmed the TV Tropes description of the animated series saying that Omni-Man is "seen as the most powerful of all." I got the impression from that that their titles were literal, that the series was a One-Punch Man-esque parody about a Comically Invincible Hero. I thought "Invincible" was actually unable to be harmed by anything other than his dad — I know that's the meme scene but I'm putting this in a spoiler just in case — and that "Omni-Man" was practically omnipotent. Turns out the series is more dramatic than this, and Mark is... far from literally invincible.

Edit so I don't double post: I also have another one about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The game had talked about the small bugs you can capture enjoying small holes in the ground. For a long while, as in after I had beaten the game and done most things it had to offer, I thought it was talking about the grottos (since on the overworld they're entered through... "small"-ish holes), and how you can often find bugs just wandering around in them. I didn't know it was talking about the holes you plant Magic Beans in, and that they dig out Gold Skulltulas when you drop them near such a hole. I had trouble finding the last few Gold Skulltulas when I went for 100% completion because I didn't know that until I looked it up.

Presumably on April 22, 2012, my grandparents were channel-surfing and went past the FOX 25th Anniversary Special on Global a couple of times. Both times happened while the special was showing Family Guy clips. The first time, it was showing a clip of Peter on a football field in "Patriot Games". The second time, it was showing the "cat launcher" clip from "Prick Up Your Ears". When I saw the latter, I didn't see the TV screen clearly enough to see Adam West shooting a live cat at the pizza delivery man, so I thought that the guy just got punched so hard that he collided with an offscreen cat.

Somehow, looking at an image of Adu Du in a Villains Wiki category listing without context, I assumed he was from an Animated Shock Comedy. I don't even know how I thought this, and this went on for a while because my 14-year old self was too afraid to check the article to see if I was right.

Jump Shoes in Super Mario RPG have the description "Use jump attacks against any foe," and I never equipped them in the remake (my playthrough of the SNES version was so long ago I don't really remember it). I just recently learned when looking it up after seeing a speedrun buy them that this means Jump attacks can be used on normally "resistant" enemies and it overrides their resistance. I thought it meant that equipping them turns all of Mario's attacks in to "Jump-element" (since "Jump" is considered an "element" in that game). One of the few RPG series I'm familiar with is Epic Battle Fantasy, which actually has such a mechanic with equipment and elements (accessories that make a character's weapon apply a specific status ailment, and equipping most weapons turns a character's "neutral" attacks to that given element), so I just assumed it worked like that.

I'm stupid. I keep saying that Steve Carrell voiced Megamind but got him mixed up with Will Ferrell; doesn't help that Steve also voiced a villain who also turns good in the exact same year. (And to a lesser extent, both actors' last names are spelled a little similar, yeesh)

In "Prince Ali" from Aladdin I thought the line "brush up your Sunday salaam" was referring to a type of hairstyle. (a salaam is an Islamic greeting) and it didn't help that Iago was "styling" his head feathers during that line.
