It's been 3 days since hooking, and there's a clear consensus. Should we call the crowner?
TRS Wick CleaningYeah, for a trope like FMB we'll want a lot of consensus.
Should we ATT plug this?
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI'd say no. It's got plenty of votes as it is, most of which are presumably from people who have kept up to speed. And, after the massive boom of vote-and-runners for the first one, I doubt that it will add anything productive at all.
TRS Wick CleaningNormally I'd agree. But Five-Man Band is a massive trope with a lot of history. More attention will not only let us move forward confidently, but will prevent people from whining later.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallWell, pretty much all of our options here involves dropping the strict role format entirely, so... yes or no depending on what you mean. The teams will still need to have five members.

depending on what the Trope in Aggregate description looks like (and there are two proposals linked in the poll) some roles might stay, but most will go. The only absolute is it needs to be a 5 person team, not 4, not 6. But 5.
The options definitely appear to have settled by now, and it's been 3 days since the ATT. Call?
TRS Wick CleaningCalling in favor of making 5MB Tropes in Aggregate.
Definition 1 is definitely a lot more fleshed out and was along the lines of what I was thinking when I pitched it. I vote it.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallProposal 1 is good. Only thing I'd change is formatting for the page and the reference to the rock band in describing the Five Man Band Classic. I recognize that was what the original trope was based on, but as we've discussed it never seemed to fit. We can keep "band" without specifying or relating to music bands, since band is also a way to call a group of people (think "Band of Hawk" from Berserk)
I have a question about this trope now that it's being changed officially. Mainly, does this impact Sixth Ranger? I know groups of any size can technically acquire a 6th ranger, but given the trope codifier is the power rangers and that is one of the more core examples of the 5 man band, it has a pretty strong connection to this trope.
Given that we've broaden the definition of 5 man band to include versions with no defined roles, should the 6th ranger apply? Asking because a part of me worries it can be used as a Loophole Abuse to shoehorn 6 man teams into 5 man band, causing the trope in aggregate to lose its only clearly defined aspect.
ETA: to illustrate my concern a bit clearer, I think a team that starts off with 5 people and way later gets a 6th ranger still fits. But the Inception example under the unsorted folder of Five Man Band Sorting makes me wonder since Saito is there from the outset as the funder for the operation. Thoughts?

Sixth Ranger never counted as part of FMB. It was quite literally excluded from being mentioned in examples. The character is really just "the extra band member who joins later and doesn't fit another role".
Plus it was already being shoehorned in anyway. This won't really change much.

Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?

It means adding it to Trope Idea Salvage Yard instead of kicking it directly to TLP.
