Not Tropeworthy: No Phones Tonight

Four issues with this trope:

1. The trope was stealth-launched
2. The trope's name is a stock phrase, despite being launched after the No New Stock Phrases policy
3. The trope isn't thriving, as it only has 16 wicks (not counting meta wicks)
4. Some users raised concerns that it overlaps with Cutting the Electronic Leash

Since it's a stealth launched stock phrase launched after we start forbidding these titles, I have no objections with cutting this.

I'm not concerned about the stealth launch part (it was 2014 for crying out loud, I think 90% of launches back then would be considered "stealth" today), but the rest of it is all cut worthy.

Just cut it and move examples to Cutting the Electronic Leash if that's doable.

The reason I'm saying to cut it instead of redirecting it is because the page for No New Stock Phrases not only cites this specific trope name as an example as an unacceptable name (with it being the only example in the list of bad names that isn't a Red Link), but also notes that Fast Eddie himself explicitly said it violates that policy before it was launched, which I personally see as another point in favor of cutting (since Fast Eddie was the one who came up with the policy it violates).

Good. I'm glad we're taking care of this. Better late than never.

Hmm... upon further inspection, it actually seems to be different from Cutting the Electronic Leash, as that seemingly involves throwing away your phone for good and this involves turning off your phone or leaving it away to have a single day/night without a phone. Related but they have different implications and levels of suspense.

If nothing else, it could be sent back to TLP (or at least yarded) to acquire more examples.

I’m feeling the same way as well; I even added an example to the page myself a while back (the Save Yourselves! one). While the page definitely doesn’t seem like it should be kept currently, I’d argue in favor of yarding it and expanding the definition to make it about characters temporary abstaining themselves from electronics (mainly computers) in general, rather than just phones.

Agree — broadening this would allow it to get more wicks.

After reading Mew’s comment, I was going to suggest broadening, but jandn did so for me.

Maybe broadening would work, but I'm assuming we'd have to change the name and cut the old name, since the current name violates a site policy.

Oh, we'd have to send it back to TLP either way, probably. A new name could be hammered out there. Maybe "A Night Without Tech"?

Oh, I was gonna say merge or expand, as well, but I forgot to hit post.

Broadening and TLP sounds good. Broad and yard if we have no sponsor.

The TLP had the suggestion of "No Phones" Agreement, but was disregarded since it got stealth-launched.

Perhaps we could rename this to No Phones Agreement (custom titled to "No Phones" Agreement as Fernando suggested) and expand it as previously mentioned.

Put me down for expanding.

The trope might end up being No Tech Agreement instead since we think we'll expand this trope.

Also, if we rename this and expand it, would sending it back to TLP even be necessary? We could add it to Pages Needing Wicks; I checked and it's not already listed there.

Edit: The post directly above this one wasn't there when I hit the "add post" button, but No Tech Agreement sounds good as well.

Depends on how many examples we have. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't feel comfortable personally with just leaving the trope "not thriving" and slapping it on the Administrivia page. If we can beef it, we should.
