  • Banished From the Hero's Party: So this was actually pretty nice. Sure, the more actiony parts did not have the animation to carry any serious fight, but the slice of life parts were fun! Red and Rit are cute together, the way Blessings work in the setting are neat, and I like how it highlights just how messed up they can make you, especially if you get the fabled Hero's Blessing. This is also the only "kicked out of the party" scenario I've seen where it wasn't a unanimous decision by inexplicably shitty adventurers to kick out their best party member for the most contrived, bullshit reasons, but because it was one asshat being a jealous incel over the hero. I'm actually interested in checking out the source material.

  • The Faraway Paladin: This was fine. The first half was definitely more interesting, because how often do you get an undead family teaching someone how to fight? After that, there isn't a whole lot that differentiates it from most other isekai. Will's a redhead, so he's slightly more standout at a glance, I suppose?

  • Kaginado: Amusing, but not a whole lot to say. Kind of surprised it's getting a second season, but these are shorts, I suppose.

  • Komi Can't Communicate: I liked this one a lot. Everyone's so over the top silly and leans hard into their archetype. Komi herself is cute as hell too, can certainly see why everyone in the world worships her. Shame it got Netflix'd though; the delayed-weekly schedule's certainly a step up from waiting 3-6 months, but their subs are just horrible. As in, half the time they don't bother subtitling on-screen text, and this show has a lot of that.

And that's everything done at last. Yay.

Another thing I felt was different about Paladin is that Will was an actual, well, paladin. His stated purpose is to save the people from the undead and spread the faith of Gracefeel. I thought that was kinda near since isekai are usually either about revenge or just faffing about.

Huh, didn’t realize Kaginado would get another season, but I guess it does well enough.

It really is nice the way Will has an actual creed and actually buys into the world he's found himself in, unlike so many others where the protagonist never really fits in and essentially just thrashes around until they've made the square hole big enough to fit the round peg of their Japanese mentality.

It's been fun.

Not fully fitting into the new world is fine as an idea I think.

The issue is more or less almost everything doing it, making it fairly stale.

So yeah, Faraway Paladin was a nice change in that regard.

Shame about the quality of the adaption though.

I guess they might it touch up a little bit on the Blu-Rays?
