Character-Specific Pages (CSPs) are created when individual characters have so many trope examples that they can't reasonably be included on a shared page.
The Administrivia Character-Specific Pages policy details the rules that apply to these pages. All Character-Specific Pages must also follow the basic How to Create a Character Page policy, as well as the wiki's more general policies about spoilers and examples.
This cleanup thread handles the following tasks:
- Reviewing and approving new CSP proposals. All new potential CSPs must be reviewed and, if necessary, cleaned up before they're created.
- Agreeing on page names for new CSPs.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a new CSP is created.
- Reviewing existing CSPs if there's a concern that they need cleanup, or if it's believed that the character may no longer qualify for a page.
- Merging existing CSPs into other character pages when necessary.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a CSP is removed/merged.
- Creating, updating and cutting redirects, as necessary, to reflect these splits and merges.
Crowners are not normally required but, where appropriate, can be used to formalise decisions on any of these points.
If a character no longer qualifies for a CSP, it's often more practical to turn the CSP into a redirect than to cut the page entirely. This keeps the page history visible to users, and also helps to steer offsite 'inbound' traffic (search engine results) to the right place. With that in mind, cut requests for CSPs may be declined and referred to this thread if they don't have a clear consensus.
Comments linking back to this thread can be added to CSPs when needed - e.g. to confirm their creation was approved, to warn tropers that a cleanup is in progress, or to note the date and outcome of a more recent review.
We also have some more general threads for character page help -
- Character Page Cleanup
: for trope misuse, zero-context examples, spoiler tagging issues etc.
- Are these character tropes?
: for queries about whether particular tropes belong on a character page or on the work's page.
- Character pages for the Marvel Cinematic Universe have a dedicated thread here
.
This is not a policy discussion thread, it's a cleanup thread — any requests for policy changes need to be raised in Wiki Talk.
Mod update 07 Mar 2024, reflecting new CSP policy, updated again 22 Mar 2024 to mention redirects for removed CSPs
- Other options must have been tried first, like splitting pages into further groups.
- The character's folder is cleaned up beforehand, fixing any Zero-Context Examples and Wall of Text entries and removing any outdated, misused, or non-character tropes.
- A character's folder is at least 6,000 words/40,000 characters (with spaces). Here
is a byte counter.note
- The current character page bypasses technical limitations and requires a split up.
- A single character takes up the majority of a page or is disproportionately bigger than other folders.
Splitting a character into their own page is a major change and needs to be run by the community before it is enacted. Even if you believe a character meets these requirements, they should be run through this thread first. Having other tropers take a look can help spot issues you may not notice or believe to be issues.
Per How to Create a Character Page, character-specific pages should only include tropes that describe the character. These tropes should fall under Characterization Tropes or one of its related indexes, unless they're recurring character traits (distinctive things that the character does repeatedly). If you're unsure what counts as a character trope, you can ask the Are these Character Tropes?
thread.
If you have concerns with a general character page, they have their own separate cleanup thread
, as do the self-demonstrating character pages
.

Looks like Koyanskaya from Fate/Grand Order has the potential for a character-specific page- It's around 40k bytes. That being said, I'm not sure if I should include the playable versions of her- If so, do I list the gameplay tropes separately from the story tropes?

Eh, good enough.I've just created a sandbox for Rick And Morty Summer Smith and the byte count as it stands is over 52,000. Albeit a chunk of that page is episode-specific points.
Regarding the Genshin Impact: Archons page, now that Zhongli and Nahida have their own individual character pages, may I suggest moving all the tropes from under the Geo Archon and Dendro Archon folders into those respective pages like what was done for Raiden Shogun? The same can be done for Venti if he ever gets his own page in the future as well. Given that they are the same individuals with multiple names, I don't see the point of splitting them up as it can be quite inconvenient for anyone to browse two different pages just for one particular character. If anyone is worried about spoilers, we can always use warnings or spoiler tags.
^^ Id make sure that not only is there little word cruft after cleanup, but that anything referencing a specific episode actually serves to exemplify the character and not just be some one off detail that should go on a recap
Character Specific Page cleanupI've started Sandbox.Fate Grand Order Senji Muramasa as a way to trim the length of Characters.Fate Grand Order Sabers N To Z because it was getting too big. Any suggestions?
Eh, good enough.Merge the main and Cosmos folders, and look out for moment-specific tropes that have to be moved to Recaps or the Main page.
TRS Wick CleaningMarvel Comics Killmonger is a page that has nowhere near the required byte count and from what I can tell he's not noted in the byte count sandbox. Remove him?
What's wrong D-16? Rise up!Same with Marvel Comics: Legion (tops out at over 16k by my count), which has a whole bunch of empty folders besides.

I see there's an in-progress page for Rei Ayanami and a note pondering moving Toji so we're not leaving one page under 40k. I was wondering what thoughts on creating her page and making a Pilots section on NERV Staff for him to be slated under would be? We could also list the other pilots with links to their pages as the page does for Gendō.

So I'm thinking of making a Sandbox page for Komi Shouko from Komi Can't Communicate as her folder is getting very close to the 40,000 byte minimum and is the largest character of the work. However, I'm unsure of how to write her name in the title: either as Komi Shouko (Japanese way, also preserves the wordplay) or Shouko Komi (English way). The page for the series uses the former "last name first" convention, so I'm leaning towards that, but I'd like to hear from others about what to do first before I create anything.
SING TO ME, LEND ME THE SONG OF BLASPHEMYBasically, it means doing a massive copy and paste - you copy all the info from the page being merged and just paste it on the page it came from. So, in this case, it would be copying everything on Killmonger's page, going to Black Panther: Enemies, and then pasting it where it belongs in his folder. I've done everything this time (and turned Killmonger's page into a redirect while I was at it), but that's how it works in the future.

Maybe page title = Shouko Komi (ie. Characters.Komi Cant Communicate Shouko Komi) and the rest of the page = Komi Shouko so that it's consistent with the other character pages? I'd be fine with making the title Characters.Komi Cant Communicate Komi Shouko too for the sake of consistency, but idk if that will clash with any TV Trope rules re:translation/localisation or not.
As someone who watched the anime and is reading the manga, I find it a bit weird that the character pages emphasise keeping the Japanese name order to preserve the name puns yet only explain the puns in some but not all of the character profile descriptions (I know they usually explain it in the trope list, but you'd think something important like that would also be put in the descriptions somewhere). That's a conversation for the regular Komi wiki editors/readers though aka not me.

The Komi Can't Communicate character pages need fixing — they should be in given name-surname order, since that's what the localization uses.
Thoughts on a potential Rei page following the suggestion I thought of which I mentioned here
?

Something I noticed just glancing over a couple of pages is the tendency for these characters to have very long descriptions. Rei's is 3K bytes and Shinji's is 5.5K bytes. Seeing as Rei is just barely hitting 40K right now, a description rework would put her back below the byte threshold. I'm wondering what other individual pages would need to be merged back if the descriptions were edited (not Shinji, he'd still be over 60K) so I think that issue should be addressed first.
God of War Series - The Stranger is called that despite the page itself just immediately listing the guy's true name and identity, Baldur. And especially in the game after he's introduced, no one even calls him "The Stranger" anymore. Is it alright to redirect this namespace to God of War Series: Baldur?
Character Specific Page cleanupI still intend to eventually move Characters.Arrowverse Dinah Laurel Lance -> Characters.Arrowverse Laurel Lance, but it's more of a major reworking than a straight-up move. Just posting here to remind myself.
