Character-Specific Pages (CSPs) are created when individual characters have so many trope examples that they can't reasonably be included on a shared page.
The Administrivia Character-Specific Pages policy details the rules that apply to these pages. All Character-Specific Pages must also follow the basic How to Create a Character Page policy, as well as the wiki's more general policies about spoilers and examples.
This cleanup thread handles the following tasks:
- Reviewing and approving new CSP proposals. All new potential CSPs must be reviewed and, if necessary, cleaned up before they're created.
- Agreeing on page names for new CSPs.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a new CSP is created.
- Reviewing existing CSPs if there's a concern that they need cleanup, or if it's believed that the character may no longer qualify for a page.
- Merging existing CSPs into other character pages when necessary.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a CSP is removed/merged.
- Creating, updating and cutting redirects, as necessary, to reflect these splits and merges.
Crowners are not normally required but, where appropriate, can be used to formalise decisions on any of these points.
If a character no longer qualifies for a CSP, it's often more practical to turn the CSP into a redirect than to cut the page entirely. This keeps the page history visible to users, and also helps to steer offsite 'inbound' traffic (search engine results) to the right place. With that in mind, cut requests for CSPs may be declined and referred to this thread if they don't have a clear consensus.
Comments linking back to this thread can be added to CSPs when needed - e.g. to confirm their creation was approved, to warn tropers that a cleanup is in progress, or to note the date and outcome of a more recent review.
We also have some more general threads for character page help -
- Character Page Cleanup
: for trope misuse, zero-context examples, spoiler tagging issues etc.
- Are these character tropes?
: for queries about whether particular tropes belong on a character page or on the work's page.
- Character pages for the Marvel Cinematic Universe have a dedicated thread here
.
This is not a policy discussion thread, it's a cleanup thread — any requests for policy changes need to be raised in Wiki Talk.
Mod update 07 Mar 2024, reflecting new CSP policy, updated again 22 Mar 2024 to mention redirects for removed CSPs
- Other options must have been tried first, like splitting pages into further groups.
- The character's folder is cleaned up beforehand, fixing any Zero-Context Examples and Wall of Text entries and removing any outdated, misused, or non-character tropes.
- A character's folder is at least 6,000 words/40,000 characters (with spaces). Here
is a byte counter.note
- The current character page bypasses technical limitations and requires a split up.
- A single character takes up the majority of a page or is disproportionately bigger than other folders.
Splitting a character into their own page is a major change and needs to be run by the community before it is enacted. Even if you believe a character meets these requirements, they should be run through this thread first. Having other tropers take a look can help spot issues you may not notice or believe to be issues.
Per How to Create a Character Page, character-specific pages should only include tropes that describe the character. These tropes should fall under Characterization Tropes or one of its related indexes, unless they're recurring character traits (distinctive things that the character does repeatedly). If you're unsure what counts as a character trope, you can ask the Are these Character Tropes?
thread.
If you have concerns with a general character page, they have their own separate cleanup thread
, as do the self-demonstrating character pages
.

We should definitely check out if it is better if it is better with or without Doomsday. Whenever I see ones that include other characters it always asks me ask does think make sense to include and while I think it does make sense, I would like to know what others think.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadGood news. The DCEU General Zod page now has 42,778 bytes excluding Doomsday. The question now is do we still want to include Doomsday on his page?
I mean I thought about it and I don't think it necessary. Plus removing Doomsday would leave DCEU: Superman's Rogues Gallery bellow 40,000 bytes unless I am calculating that wrong.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadDave Microwaves Games Berry The Bear (3,110 bytes)
Merged and cut listed.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadMr. Burns from The Simpsons - Nuclear Power Plant, Shopkeepers is 42,210 bytes and without him the page would still be 69,208 bytes. Would it be okay if I make a page for him?

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadThe Variants section for MCU: Spider-Man now has 40,406 bytes on it. Since 2/3 of them are treated as separate characters, should we give them a separate page? Keep in mind the main page has over 182,000 bytes.
I should note that in the case of Loki his page is so long that with his variants it gives the too long page warning and that his main variant is big enough on his own for a page. Is Spider-Man giving the warning? I am not saying no, I am just wondering if its necessary right now.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadMy reasoning is that there's still some time before No Way Home comes out on DVD and Disney Plus, so those folders could experience further growth in the next few months as it reaches new viewers and Rewatch Bonus kicks in. Plus, Tom Holland's Spider-Man has so much information that scrolling past him to get to his variants not only eats up a lot of time, but could easily lead to mismanagement if someone mistakes one folder for another.
I mean I don't think it's a bad idea. If his three variants come out to over 40,000 bytes, just do what we do with the secondary Loki variants, MCU: Other Loki Variants, (though obviously without the "Other" part) and make a MCU: Spider-Man Variants.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadSo funny story I was checking the Harry Potter pages to see if any other the ones we got could get a page. Well, Umbridge and Draco are a couple of thousands far from the mark. Sirius Black is 44,058 bytes while the OG Harry Potter – Marauders would still be 86,949 bytes without him.
However, Gellert Grindelwald is actually 65,156 bytes which is actually bigger than Ron or Hermione. However, his OG page Fantastic Beasts: Grindelwald's Army is only 90,564 bytes. So, he literally makes up most of the page and it would be 25,408 without him. So, with the new movie coming out there is a chance for those to grow without him if we think it might be worth the risk. Though I am unsure.
So, what do guys think? Am I good to give Sirius a page while we wait on Grindelwald?

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadSo why is there a 40,000 byte requirement for character-specific pages?
"Unite GUN/BAZOOKA/LAUNCHER/TANK!"Because it is roughly 7 thousand words and at that pint tends to take up the page. Plus, it is what was agreed on at Wiki Talk. It's more of a cutting off point then anything. Like if its bellow 40,000 it is usually fine where it is. Though we have plenty that don't meet that limit but those are because they fit our other requirements. Like there being nowhere else to put them or them taking up most of the page.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadYeah. That is who I was asking about.
Harry Potter – Sirius Black. I would have put his middle name like most of the others do, but I don't know it.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI'd rather we keep names overall as short and to the point as they need to be. Adding superfluous text like epithets and middle names just makes editing around the pages more work than it has to be. I.e. I'm not a fan of One Piece characters needing their entire bounty poster title in their namespace
Character Specific Page cleanup

The reason I thought it might make sense is that Doomsday is Zod's corpse. Either way the sandbox is still need of work. So, I will continue to work on it.
