Reckless renaming of characters and other in-work stuff

A few months ago Ihad an argument with a certain troper about the Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation page because he named the main antagonist Set despite it being Seth in the game proper.

Said troper told me off with an excuse that it "sounds more suitable for an American page".

Now I revisited Utawarerumono after a few years to find out someone renamed the main protagonist Hakuoro to "Hakuowlo" and I have no idea why. What the hell?

Do you think that such arbitrary renaming of characters and features is ok? Because I certainly don't.

I don't know about the Utawarerumono page. It is necessary to thoroughly check the history.

They were edit banned fairly recently

We have a policy of using the names from the latest official English translation. Utawarerumono is... interesting. Most of the page uses Hakuowlo, but there are still a few instances of Hakuoro, which wouldn't be odd if one of them wasn't the character's won introduction. The page itself notes that fan translations of the game and anime, the game's official translation, and the anime's dub all differ on how to read the names that I presume were in katakana (and perhaps taken from the Ainu language). Which names to use will require collating all these sources and coming to an official decision, and it will not be easy.

Well I also posted in a thread about Utawarerumono in Visual Novels topic. I'll see if it yields any results.

As for the Tomb Raider page, I know for certain that the ingame name is Seth, several gameplay videos confirm that and there's probably no other/newer "English translation". The game was in English from the beginning. So if there are no objections I'll proceed to correct the spelling as soon as I'll have time for that.

Sohibil, I am puzzled. Wanting some outside guidance, I looked at Wikipedia and Gamefaq's entries for the game. Both use "Set", though a few fan resources use "Seth". To get to the source, I found a playthrough on Youtube; and clear as anything, they say it consistently with a plosive, not a fricative. With Jean-Yves I could put it down to his accent, but other characters say the same from what I heard.

(Both spellings are historical, "Seth" coming through Greek and "Set" through Coptic. "Set" seems to be favoured now, in part because "Seth" is also a Biblical name. Neither of these are used by Egyptologists in their papers, who use hieroglyphic transcriptions like stẖ or swtẖ.)

So... why do you say "Seth" is correct? Is that what is written on the game's side material?

According to this wiki, it's spelt "Seth" in-game.

Dear Reymma, please check at 14: 33 of the following gameplay vid:

As you can clearly see in the displayed stats the level name is The Tomb of Seth . So I hope we got that sorted out.
