All this!
I loved season 2, obviously the nowhere king really clinches it as an excellent bit of story telling, but I think there's a lot to be said for Horse's struggle over how she's thrown away reuniting with rider to contribute perhaps nothing.
And Horse genuinely finding and feeling love and acceptance for her new family is just, mwah, my heart beats for it.
What are these "odd remixes" you mentioned, Sunchet?
Off the top of my head, I can't think of any that felt particularly weird or ill-fitting. I liked all of them, but I especially liked all of Durpleton's stupid season 1 songs coming back as Dark Reprises to show off how messed up he is.
The Birdtaurs were definitely the worst part. I think that episode was the only one in the entire series that I really didn't like.
Kaze ni Nare!
It's not the best, but Rebecca Apples is just... really funny. And terrifying.
It also contains one my favourite Comfortable Doug lines when he sees the Birdtaur-Minotaur hybrid being created:
"Is this a death we must mourn or a birth we should celebrate?"

Kaze ni Nare!Well, for one thing, there were just way more remixes, re-use of lyrics, or similar style of songs. Season 1 only had recurring Rider's Lullaby and Nowhere King songs, a very short reprise of Waterbaby song, second Fragile Things, and song Horse sang to Whaletaur but the context of lines is so opposite it actually works very well.
Admittedly, songs that reuse old parts like Derpurton songs are still better than many brand new songs (Coldtaurs, Birdtaurs, Hootenanny) but they were still more of narratively functional songs than something I would re-listen to in free time.
I guess the big one to me would be Horse's Hootenanny song. It looked promising in the trailer but the full version fails to come together.
Aw I loved that song. Horse singing Centaurworld as proof of her Character Development is so sweet.
I think the best wholy new songs in Season 2 were the Rift Worker's Work is Never Done (Elk Suite Part 4) and Breath in a Bag. I also love the Durple Drop far too much, but admittedly that's barely a song.
Most of the remixes have different enough contexts that they worked for me. Best Dad is a dark reprise that contextualizes Durpleton's past and explains why he thinks the way he does. Once Whole is a... wholesome reprise (?) that shows how The Woman used to see the world before her experiences warped her into what we see in Nothing Good. Who Was She is Horse finally finding peace with herself and declaring that who she is wasn't important next to the fact that she was loved regardless.
Kaze ni Nare!If I were to replay any songs it would be Breathe in Bag and most songs from the finale. I also would replay any song that uses the goofy instrumental of the Herd being comedic. Like when they tried fixing Waterbaby's House-boat, Ched and Durpleton going with Wammawink or the Herd just sending Minotaurs to Moletaur jail. Maybe by the end of Season 1 they got exhausted on lyrics.
Oh yeah that bit from West Covina was great. I don't care much for the rest of the song but I'm willing to listen to it just to hear that bit again.
I really liked "Breathe in a Bag." And honestly, I liked all the reprises. I thought for the most part they came together well. And Durpleton's reprises worked really well for making his goofy and weaker s1 songs hit harder with the added context.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.I think one part that messes me up about Elktaur is the way he's introduced. A guy living his life and dealing with jerks, he sings about his hopes and dreams, he falls in love with a princess...That's not a monster, that's a Disney protagonist. I'm hardwired to expect a happy ending for him in like an hour and a half. Even getting turned into an animal fits the bill.
