Just a Face and a Caption: The Pennyfarthing Effect

Three problems with the image:

• It's just a picture of a Pennyfarthing bicycle, and as such, is not very illustrative of the trope.
• It's rather small and of low quality.
• The Pennyfarthing bicycle itself is only the trope namer and not an actual example of this trope.

Honestly, I think this page is fine without a pic.

I'm not sure how we'd go about pic'ing this one, so I'm good to pull and BUPKIS.

I immediately thought of console controllers, and while the image is somewhat outdated with the comparison, the Gamecube controller is very similar to controllers that Playstation and Xbox still use today and I thought a Nintendo/Nintendo comparison would be better. First image is just a basic comparison, but I like the second playing up the absurdity of holding an N64 controller.

I can live with 3.2

Though, if the Pennyfarthing bike were likewise matched up with a modern Kona in the same way, a caption explaining how the modern bike is easier to stay balanced on, requires less effort to pedal, and can go much faster due to lower profile and greater rear wheel traction would be plenty enough illustration of the trope.

For a caption, maybe: "Co-op gaming with 1 controller didn't quite pan out."

I like that one. Maybe "never managed to catch on" instead of "didn't quite pan out".

3.2 is great. Maybe add the console year releases to the image or just use the caption for that?

(I'd actually like to combine both of 3 somehow for visibility of the controllers but there isn't much continuity. The N64 controllers and backgrounds aren't the same color.)

Also, adding the release years probably would be a good idea (1996 and 2001, respectively).

I've gone ahead with 3.2...do we want to add the dates to the pic, or just mention them in the caption?

I think adding them to the pic would work better. I've also taken the liberty to remove the page from This Image Is Not an Example.

I think adding the release dates is a good idea.

Maybe something like "Co-op with the N64 (1996) never did catch on. Luckily, the Gamecube (2001) only requires one person to play."

I'd change "co-op" to something like "single-controller co-op", but that's it.

I don't think that specification is really needed...the pic and term seem pretty clear to me. The caption's added and tagged; locking up.
