That is an excellent name.

Dead Author Orphaned Work seems like the best name. People would confuse a few of the others with Outlived Its Creator.

In fact, after this trope gets a new name, we might need to start up a cleanup thread for this and/or give it a waiting period.

Waiting periods are not necessary for "author dies during the production". Though, a cleanup thread is fine.

I think the wait would be to see if the work is continued after their death.

Is someone else continuing the work even part of the definition? I thought the author leaving behind an unfinished work was the only requirement.

I think so. I'd imagine that's also a way Franchise Zombie could apply.

Seeing that the general consensus is to rename Author Existence Failure, I've created a crowner for a new name.

A bit late, but yeah I would agree with renaming Author Existence Failure, the name is awful for what the trope is about.

Just created a proper alt name crowner (I didn't know that there were different types, sorry!)

Agreed. How about Died During Production But Not From It? It's clearer, but not much longer (literally only four more words and 12 characters minus spaces).

Seriously, it's 32 characters minus spaces. the limit is 64. You cannot truly say it's way too long.

Piter, when people say a title is too long, they mean it's wordy and unintuitive. We want people to remember the title of tropes.
