Hooked!
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportOkay, I just noticed that the suggestion to move examples featuring wasps and hornets into the Wicked Wasps trope has been met with a concerning amount of backlash. And I'd like to know why.
Given that the most examples will define Bee Afraid as featuring bees in antagonistic/threatening light, it would be redundant to keep wasps and hornets there when we already have a trope for antagonistic/threatening wasps. Bees and wasps are not the same thing. If the Bee Afraid will be changed to its new future definition, wasps and hornets that would be kept in this trope under the new definition will end up being the case of Square Peg, Round Trope. And there is a note that states that, if Option A and Option C become the winning suggestions (with Option A being the most likely winner), the examples of wasps and hornets attacking in swarms will be moved to these options' respective tropes (The Swarm for Option C, and a new trope about swarms of stinging insects for Option A).
At least, that's my reasoning behind adding this suggestion in the crowner and upvoting it. So, to whoever opposes this suggestion, can you, please, explain your own reasoning?

Vi: Well, it's not like we're getting attacked by a giant wasp spider guardian! | Leif: Never combine those words ever again.3 "against" votes versus 9 "for" votes is "concerning amount of backlash"?

Okay, I admit, I overreacted. It's just that the suggestion is so undervoted that, when I see that 25% of all votes are against it, it made me worried that more negative votes will come, and it would eventually culminate in the negative votes preventing the positive consensus for this one option.

Vi: Well, it's not like we're getting attacked by a giant wasp spider guardian! | Leif: Never combine those words ever again.I think it might be an issue of what kind of examples to move. Examples about individual wasps or wasps specifically identified and called dangerous, yes. But referring the original definition of Bee Afraid, I don't think it's important to try to distinguish what kind of insects the scary stinging swarm is composed of.
I agree that the distinction isn't important. Tropes Are Flexible.

You can't always get what you want.()Exactly. That's why there is a tidbit included to the suggestion that states that the examples of wasps featured in swarms are an exception to not being mutually exclusive (or, if you are confused by double-negative, they are mutually exclusive) to Options A and C. Whenever there's a swarm of wasps, it will be moved to: per Option A, a new trope for original definition of Bee Afraid; and per Option C, to The Swarm.
Tl;dr, if wasps appear in swarms in an example, they are moved per one of the two options. If they are not, to Wicked Wasps they go.
EDIT: I'm dumb. I finally realized the problem. These two tropes can overlap. Now here's the more correct definition: if either Options A and C will be the winning ones, the examples with wasp swarms will be moved to both tropes; to Wicked Wasps, and to The Swarm/a new trope about the original meaning of Bee Afraid.

Vi: Well, it's not like we're getting attacked by a giant wasp spider guardian! | Leif: Never combine those words ever again.So...the Option A has an insurmountable lead (27 vs. 1). And the secondary proposal (move wasp examples to Wicked Wasps)...well, it was met with quite an opposition (15 vs. 4), but it still is fairly popular, and is not mutually exclusive with other options.
So, does this mean we can close the crowner, or maybe we should let it hang in for a while to allow the last-minute objections come in?
Vi: Well, it's not like we're getting attacked by a giant wasp spider guardian! | Leif: Never combine those words ever again.I'm not sure 4 downvotes is a big opposition; it still has enough upvotes to have consensus I think. I think we can call it at this point.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessYep, calling in favor of the following:
- Trope transplant
- Moving wasp/hornet examples to Wicked Wasps
Okay, now that the Step A: The Crowner is done, I suppose now it's time for Step Bee: picking the new name for the trope that would encompass the original meaning of Bee Afraid, right?
Well, if yes, then my proposal stays the same as from the first message in this thread! Scary Stinging Swarm!
Vi: Well, it's not like we're getting attacked by a giant wasp spider guardian! | Leif: Never combine those words ever again.I also like the name Scary Stinging Swarm, it's self-explanatory and has some nice Added Alliterative Appeal to it.

135 - 158 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300The name "Scary Stinging Swarm" already has 11 votes. I suppose there are no objections or alternate title suggestions, right?
Vi: Well, it's not like we're getting attacked by a giant wasp spider guardian! | Leif: Never combine those words ever again.None for what I've seen.
135 - 158 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300That's enough concensus for Scary Stinging Swarm, so TLP away!

Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?
Sheesh. The crowner's not even attached, and it's already got a lot of votes. Feels a little awkward.
