So, it's been a trend for soft-split tropes to be split into multiple sections even when it's not needed and makes the page a hassle to navigate. In some cases, the trope in question is so large that hard-splitting some (or all) of the internal subtropes into their pages is more beneficial than letting them take over the page.
EDIT: Here’s the sandbox for this effort—Sandbox.Soft Split Cleanup

That can't be good. Even with all the categories it still has to create something like "General", "Generic Black Panthers" and "Other Small Cats" to put examples somehow. The page covers a lot of fantastic animals anyway ("Lynx-like creature" in Lynx, "a character who is supposed to look like an ocelot, but because of some in universe ignorance looks more like a black panther" in Ocelot, etc) and I don't the point in splits.

I wonder if that trope isn’t just “big cats exist”, but that’s not what this thread is for.
Thoughts on Place Worse Than Death? AIUI the trope can be used to refer to In-Universe locations as well, but the soft split examples are all focused on various locations within the United States. Is this by design?
INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does. The Siberia section seems like it should be moved to Reassigned to Antarctica
The confusion between real life locations being the bulk of the examples and the tropes description seeming to be mostly about in universe examples is more of a TRS issue.

Think in Text lists no examples presumably because of its description's last paragraph, which I'll quote here:
This paragraph sort of implies that we ought to sort examples by how the trope is used, instead of by media. It admits it'd be too complex of a sorting method; hence, its unofficial ban on on-page examples (Think in Text is not listed on No On-Page Examples).
It seems silly to ban on-page examples because of that, so I think we should just remove that paragraph and allow examples to be sorted by media. I'm asking here because this is technically about a soft-split trope. Kinda.

Unfortunately, this is probably a better question for Ask The Tropers.
Tall, Dark, and Handsome is split between "straight" examples and "subversions/parodies/etc." This is unnecessary, right?
Is there really any reason To the Pain needs to be split between torture, Death Trap, poison, Pressure Point, Mind Rape, and "other" examples? You Have No Idea Who You're Dealing With seems to cover "other"/poison/PP, and More than Mind Control probably covers the MR variant. Death Trap and "other" could probably be folded into general torture as well.
Your goateed philistine is sashaying towards us. | 🧱My Own Private "I Do" is split between "Plan First, Elope Later", "Elope First, Plan Later", and a miscellaneous section. I don't think it particularly matters for the trope whether the eloping was carefully planned or a reckless impulse. So, removing the soft split?
Edit: Permission to get rid of the soft split in Convenient Coma for the same reasons? The categories are awkward and while in line with the trope's description, don't contribute anything to the page.

Trailblazer of old tropes. (She/her)Gothic Horror is subdivided into time periods as opposed to being alphabetically listed. In particular, there's a separate folder for authors who were influenced by gothic horror. This distinction makes sense for creators like H. P. Lovecraft and Stephen King, as I wouldn't call their works gothic. But then you have authors like Shirley Jackson and V. C. Andrews whose works are usually categorized as gothic.
Seems that one would require a little clean-up instead of a soft-split removal. I think it's good that it has examples from before it emerged as a genre BUT it's clear actual Gothic Horror authors won't belong to that "pre-genre" category.
Trailblazer of old tropes. (She/her)During the cleanup of Vapour Wear I've been moving examples to Going Commando and noticed that the latter page is soft-split by gender: there are sections for Male, Female and Both (to add to the confusion).
I raised the question in this ATT thread
and consensus there is that the split is unnecessary and should be removed, but as I was pointed to this thread I'm moving the discussion here in case there's any more input.

Panthera Awesome is divided to fourteen sub-categories based on the different species of cats.
