Misused (alt names crowner 28 Feb 2021): Deader Than Disco

I could see examples like that qualifying. I remember hearing the same about Butch Hartman in relation to Danny Phantom after Butch started going off the rails.

Unless we're in a deadlock, in which case we should start a crowner.

So what name do we pick for the Disco is dead trope in itself.

Some ideas:

• Disco Sucks

• Everyone Hates Disco

• Nobody Likes Disco (not a fan of this one or the one before it because they're kind of snowclone-y)

• Disco Is Despised

• Disco Is Disliked

• Disco Is Dead (suggested by JHD)

• Disco Dodo (suggested by Nen_desharu)

That's all I can come up with based on previous suggestions and my own thoughts. If anyone has any better ideas let me know.

Are these good options for a crowner?

• Expand from universally loved to universally hated to mostly loved to mostly hated within its niche.^{Original Wording} Expand beyond the work going from universally loved to universally hated.
• Disallow ongoing works.
• Rename (decide new name with another crowner).
• Make a trope about disco being mocked.
• Establish a waiting period of 1 year (mutually exclusive with other waiting period options).
• Establish a waiting period of 5 years (mutually exclusive with other waiting period options).
• Establish a waiting period of 10 years (mutually exclusive with other waiting period options).

Yeah, I think so. However, I believe these options should be split into separate crowners, since from what I understand, the consensus is usually the only option people go with regarding crowners. And there's typically only one of those.

(I'm pretty sure I'm wrong here, but just in case...)

How are we defining "hate" in this context? Is simply falling out of favor enough, or does negative sentiment have to be more... active, for lack of a better word?

"Hate" meaning "disliked". If this trope were to include anything that is no longer popular, it would become too common. The work has to be disliked.

Yeah; bad reviews, mocked by those who know about it, stuff like that.

Can "niche" also include "what is universally popular in that country/region then universally loathed in that country/region"? Like, not in a Germans Love David Hasselhoff situation, but strictly popular only in that country.

I don't see why examples can't be restricted to a specific part of the world. Requiring the phenomenon to be worldwide would make the definition too narrow.

Crowner seems to be steady. What should we do?

Does DTD mostly focus on a popular thing becoming abandoned because of later hatred of it, or could it be about things abandoned because of later indifference or the next thing vastly improving on the formula, making the previous one redundant or pointless? For instance, a game in a series comes out, super hyped, people love it, it's the thing to play. Then a few years later the next installment comes out and it is superior to the previous one in almost every way without losing content people liked in the transition, giving players no reason to really go back to the previous game? They aren't embarrassed by playing it originally, just the common response now to playing it would be "Why bother? Just play the next one."

Also, reading into Vindicatedby History does sound like it is the opposite of DTD, but does Vb H media have to be super popular years after release? Sounds like DTD is an aspect that was THE thing everywhere only to then practically completely vanish in support overnight. Like an Overnight Pariah. Vb H reads that it was something good that was missed at initial release.

I think what you're describing is more Seinfeld Is Unfunny, when a work that was considered groundbreaking when it first came out is now considered outdated or run-of-the-mill simply because later works took what they had and did their own twists on them.
