Considering recent events, it's time to stop ignoring that.
Yeah, I agree. The Japanese game industry in the 2000s and 2010s have been faced with so much discriminatory comments that it's absurd, and the worst part is that people think it's ok to do it. Some common ones I've heard are "games are too anime" and "they need to stop the Fanservice".
Is it so hard to believe that people might be irritated by the sexualization of children and the copious quantities of oscillating boobies on display? Obviously if they give Western games a pass for the same thing they're hypocrites, but there are glaring aesthetic differences.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Leaving aside the whole The US is the West thing, in any other country this would be considered discriminatory, since you are giving an unfair advantage on the games developed in your own country (or in Sony's case, games developed by their American and European branches) towards games developed in other regions as a result of cultural or racial prejudices against them, while games developed by western developers are normally excluded because they are western. (And by "Western" I mean BOTH America and Europe, and not just the U.S.)
@Fighteer: Most games with the boobies that are Japanese Developed actually have fun with themselves as opposed to the wests obsession with being grim, gritty and "real" since the PS 3 generation at least.
Watch SymphogearA difference in cultural values is not the same thing as racism.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Because not adhering to Cultural Relativity isn't offensive to the culture in question at all, right?
Aso someoen going for an Anthropology degree, that's bull, no offence.

Watch SymphogearYou aren't even making coherent statements. Your earlier post perfectly demonstrates how people are willing to play absurd strawman games to justify their points of view. If that's what your degree is in, you need a refund.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Well, that's a long-time thing with Western culture, and it doesn't just apply to anime. Try to make a sexually exploitative game as a Western developer; you'll see how quickly you become a pariah. It's not like Japan is uniquely called out for it... nor is Japan averse to people being bloodily ripped in half.
I am really unclear about what point is being made here.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"If calling out Sony's hypocrosy with their game development makes people strawmen, I'm not sure what you're trying to say, either.
Watch SymphogearThere's a distinction between nudity used to titillate, and nudity just being there. You don't need for rape and nudity to be edgy in order to finally have it "excused".
Frankly the exxacerbation of another "problematic" thing (namely, violence) could also be levied against both "Western" and Asian videogame makers.
Personally, I've no issues with either.
But frankly, video games already target a market population that is pretty vulnerable in the ever increasing isolation of the internet, and they push for this, and I don't see anything bad about questioning this.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesWhat in the everlasting anime love pillow blue balls are you people talking about? I'm reading posts about a "Sony check" and anime discrimination and it all has no context. Take as long as you need and type out a coherent description of this problem.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"We are. You're just not seeing it because you keep flinging out stereotypes with no rhyme or reason.
Watch SymphogearI'm serious. Treat me like someone with absolutely no clue about this and describe the problem. Don't just say that it exists and then act as if I'm an idiot for not understanding.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I think the problems (namely waifu and lolicon culture, and the All Anime Is Naughty Tentacles assumption/sitgma) are topics outside the scope of the thread (but within that of the gender roles, Sexism and Japanese Culture threads) except on how Sony and Nintendo treat them, with one having a lazzes-faire attitude and the other wanting to get away from it.
Even then we can only speculate on why Sony is doing this. Is it born from awareness of the harm in pandering to overly horny otaku? Do they think Japanese pop culture is being outpaced by other nations? Has the leadership shifted towards an ideology that really does think All Anime Is Naughty Tentacles? Or maybe they are trying to expand the audiences of their games and position itself as a family-friendly alternative like what Nintendo did a few decades back?
Of course the closing of the Japan studios adds another wrinkle to this as well.

So Sony is fine with "adult" sexual themes in video games while Nintendo is not (Bayonetta notwithstanding). Okay, got it. Still not seeing any discrimination here.
Well, is it a question of the work being all about the eroticism vs. having isolated sexual encounters in an otherwise non-sexualized work? That's a line that exists in the West, too.
Edit: "Being a fan of eroticism in media" is not a protected category and thus cannot be discriminated against.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Consider me an absolute idiot, if you must I am happy to play the fool's role.
But from what I understand there's been a few complaints about the policies of Sony towards censoring some games in some ways some would consider part of the videogames integrity. Or just a gross overreach towards some sort of...artistic integrity? Or maybe they just are against censorship in any way shape or form as it is seen as a political push from outside of Japan.
A cursory google look even shows a fanmade list of censored videogames:
Some online lists you could find online mention some games such as Omega Labyrinth Life, and more recognizable Devil May Cry 5, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, or Catherine: Full Body.
A less fan-made list of censored games can be found made by Wikipedia
here. Seems the majority of the censorship did not go about content and instead focused on things like the ubiquitous panty shots, and some sex, gore, and bathing scenes.
Some of th games in THIS list include Monster Monpiece
, a game where you...uh. rub the PS Vita in order to...uh. Take...off the character's clothes...
There is a Paywalled
article from the Wall Street Journal which seems to talk more about this thought process from Sony.
This seems to be the disparaging "Sony Check" which is alluded to.
People far more into the media than I may be would however be privy to the gripes of the game developers who, undoubtedly, would commiserate on their scenes being rejected over numerous panty shots or bathing scenes or whatever in a public manner, hence driving the opinion of insiders to a frenzy.
I for one am happy to call out either side of the equation for glorifying sexuality and violence in numerously bad ways, so to speak. East and West. But the conflation of this specific subject with racism is just something new to me.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Personally, no idea. But I wouldn't be surprised.
As I said in my post, it's just a cursory look.
I will remove his link though. The mere thought of aiding on giving him clicks leaves a sour aftertaste in my mouth.

If they are, then I didn't know. The original article for the second link is in Japanese, and the first link I found felt NSF Wish enough I didn't feel like linking it (it had some pictures showing off the censorship).
The Niche Gamer article is basically a summary of a Game Industry.biz Japan branch article on a gaming analyst being pissed off Playstation was making anti-Japan market moves after Sony moved the SIE headquarters to the US.
