Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi/Redo of Healer (anime and light novel)

I kinda enjoyed The Rising Of The Shield Hero (although in hindsight I recognize how awful it is), but even I probably wouldn't touch this one.

The one saving grace is that the series doesn't take long at all to establish what kind of story this is. So one can figure out very quickly whether or not they want to follow it.

I knew what I was getting into with this, and I'm fine with Grimdark and edge so...

You know, let's lighting this topic a little.

Flare/Freiya's voice actress is giving her best for the role and hopes people can appreciate her work.

Given this is her first work, I pray she finds better work in the future...

Oh for sure. Whatever opinion someone has of the source material, let's remember that the people working on the anime are just putting food on their table.

I mean if nothing else she's uh....got some pipes on her if you know what I mean.

So this one isn't a case of being "misunderstood" and it's exactly what it appears to be?

It's revenge porn, plain and simple. It's the thing people accused Shield Hero of being.

Did some clean-up in the character page, especially with regards to Hawk Eye and Blade. Seriously. How anyone mistook the random "father of a victim" for him is a mystery. I might have missed some, but I'll go over it again later if someone else hasn't.

Aside from Shizuka Itō, I don't really recognize anyone.

This is a very, very good video that I wanted share in the best place I could put it. we all know Redo of Healer isn't meant to be more than revenge rape fantasy, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to use it to discuss how dark and sexual content is mishandled in the context of these stories. The video shockingly points this out with Keyaro's rape of Freya.

Never thought I'd see people use Goblin Slayer as a point of comparison given all of the shit its own rape scenes got.

Well, as awful as that scene was, at least it wasn't being framed as "righteous revenge". As much as I don't particularly care for Goblin Slayer, it doesn't go to such extremes.

Yeah, in Goblin Slayer rapists tend to get executed pretty soon by the titular character.

Said video was rather accusatory of those who like the show, but whatever.

For what it's worth, while I'm not gonna call it smartly written or anything (far from it), I do find myself oddly compelled to keep on watching it, if only for the sheer audacity that it revels in.

I saw the thread for Goblin Slayer a while back and how disturbed many tropers were here.

I am genuinely surprised to see a thread for this anime here. The first 2 episodes made my stomach turn.

I much rather watch Goblin Slayer then this, at the very least the protagonists in Goblin Slayer were somewhat likeable.

To be honest, I don't mind that the protagonist is a piece of shit. Stories about Black-and-Gray Morality aren't uncommon.

This series kind of falls apart because there's just nothing interesting or clever about it; if you ignore all of the over the top gore and rape, then it really has nothing of value to say or any semblance of logic.

Think that's why people don't really say anything about it compared to Shield Hero; the latter actually made a narrative about its content, for better or worse. There's no real narrative to speak of in this series, its just the protagonist going around and killing men, and raping women and not much else in the way of a goal.

EDIT: Its been two pages and none of us have actually talked about anything in the series itself. That should tell you something.

Honestly I could see some potential out of the idea of an abused healer goes on to get revenge type of story.

Do it like Monte Cristo though, not like this absolute edgelord fest with literally no depth. Have the healer go off to somewhere else were they won't get treated like shit. Have them build a power base and then completely ignore their former abusers if they show back up again.

Their is so many ways that concept could of been done better than this.

It's sadly ironic because, if the protagonist didn't erase the memories of his rape victims then that would at least force them to address how their lives led to that moment and possibly change into better people of their own accord. Instead Keyaru inflicts Death of Personality, forever removing any opportunity for Character Development that the rapes would enable. Speaks a lot when something as unsettling as Rape as Redemption would improve this narrative.

Weirdly enough it seems that no one really super cares about redo from what ive seen. Like the immense controversy that stuff like goblin slayer generated isnt here.
