I'm worried too about what they might do (and for certain folks that might be listening in, we aren't worried about being killed, we're worried about attacks on the wiki and the forums). I'm also pretty fucking livid.

Things did not need to get this bad, and yet they have. And I'm still serious about completely locking down all of the forums, as well as locking account creation and wiki editing for the time being. As of right now, our safety is at risk with sites like, uh, those listening in.

I knew about the cut list and I cutlisted my troper page already. I don't have anything other than a troper page and a very small number of avatars so I don't know what else I need to delete.

They've always been listening in. Temporarily closing the wiki will only give them what they want- it's like internet terrorism. They just want us to be afraid.

Wait, why would cutlisting troper pages be necessary anyway? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I don't know a lot about how doxxing works in the first place.

My concern is that everyone here will get doxxed.

Doxxing, for the record, is when your personal info is dumped on the internet for "revenge" against a perceived slight. Hence why we don't want it.

Yes, but even if personal data can be wiped to prevent people from finding it, how would they find out the actual, personal data of the people involved?

I mean, they can know what my online persona is, but I think it'd be a lot harder for them to find out what my real name/home address/etc. is.

I don't know but I'm being real cautious.

My Troper Page is literally just a list of my wiki contributions; I could cut it and save the info in a doc or something to wait out the drama, but like...is it necessary? There's nothing personal on there.

Doxing isn’t magic, a person needs to have left a certain amount of personal information about for it to be possible.

Plus a number of us probably don’t actually care if our IRL identities can get linked to our TV Tropes accounts. All the key players in my life know I post here and know (or are fine to know) anything I’ve posted here.

As a general rule I don’t put anything on the internet I wouldn’t be okay explaining to both my boss and my grandmother.

Yeah, and I think y'all might be panicking over nothing. Since you can presume your data is already out there and accessible by anyone, what would blanking your pages actually accomplish? It sounds like you're just throwing away your work for little to no reason.

I mean I didn't have a lot of revealing info about myself on my page, mostly just my personal tastes in media. Should I still be worried?

I already commented out all of my troper page anyway so I'm not losing much.

EDIT: What about email accounts? Aren't those attached to TV Tropes accounts? I didn't outright say mine, but a doxxer might have access AFAIK.

I have nothing to worry about, to be honest. And as long as y’all didn’t leave personal information that can be linked, neither should you.

People seem to be hugely overestimating what the making-fun-of-Sonichu fandom can do.

Not that they're harmless. But they're not Cthulhu.

As long as you didn't link your other accounts, emails, addresses, phone numbers, postal codes, etc. on other parts of the site, you should be safe.

@mayor I don't think you should be worried. In my opinion, blanking everything on your pages and encouraging others to do the same, just because you're scared and paranoid, seems really irresponsible.

Mind you, if everything you've said turns out to be true, then it would be justifiable — but doing this just on the off chance someone could use it against you isn't.

The only thing I mentioned was a vague mention of the region of the country I was from. Is that something to be concerned about?

I get that, I'm just real cautious.

If you don’t have anything that will identify you irl, then there’s no need to nuke it really. But if that’s what you want to do go for it.

All that site is doing is mocking us for their entertainment. It’s best to just ignore them for your own piece of mind.

I know, and I so far have not actually gone over to that site because I do not desire to know what they think of me. My main concern was safety, that's all.

Also I wasn't necessarily encouraging others to do the same, I was just taking personal precautions.

@mayor I understand that you're nervous, but telling everyone else to do the same seems like blatant (albeit unintentional) fearmongering.

Remember guys, this sort of thing is like internet terrorism. They want us to panic. The best way to handle it is to react calmly and rationally.

The mods know what's going on, and I'm sure they're telling the admins of the potential threat. If you have personal information leaked anywhere here then by all means, take it down, but there's no need to panic otherwise.

One thing that might make you feel safer is re-scrambling your password.

And no, I don't have personal information leaked. But there's already a mass cutting of pages for safety concerns.
