Another thing I don't understand is, if the author was going to approach the topic of pedophilia in such a stupid manner, then what the hell was the point of that one noteworthy moment at the start of the Web Novel? The MC was caught by his brothers jerking to hidden camera footage of his little niece bathing, something he did instead of going to their parent's funeral.
Like, were we supposed to find the "ditch the funeral" part more fucked up than the "jerk off to your niece"? Because I'm pretty damn sure that many WN readers came away thinking both were fucked up in equal measure.
This moment was of course changed in the later adaptations because even Japanese publishers and editors have standards.
I find it funny, personally.

Watch SymphogearWell it wouldnt be Mushoku tensei without sexual assault played for laughs....other than the first scene (which was tacky) and the bedroom scene (which was bad) everything else in the episode was pretty good. The animation is definitely low priority, similar to the Eris ova, but it also did a good job of conveying several feelings and reminding me why I still love this show despite it serving as the author subjecting me to his personal spank bank. Looking forward to more
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysYeah, I really don't know why they had to make another sexual assault joke.
Otherwise, really enjoyed this appetizer. Sylphy's abject terror at suddenly finding herself 10,000 feet up in the air was understandable, and to add salt to the wound is that she's halfway across the globe and her hometown is gone. I wonder if Rudeus will reunite with her this season?
So according to this thread
on r/anime, some content got censored in the international release of Mushoku Tensei episode 0. Just to quote the body of text for anyone who doesn't want to click on the link.
"Since it looks like the news hasn't hit the subreddit yet, I thought I'd just make a post informing people that there are two versions of Episode 0 of Mushoku Tensei S2 out there.
The version that aired on Crunchyroll, and almost every other international release platform, had some content cut and replaced with closeups, panning shots, and other "filler" animation.
The full version aired on Japanese television.
The majority of the censorship affected the [Scene in MT S2 EP 0] Discussion Scene at the Play , though the full extent of the censorship in the episode is still being examined.
The cause of the censoring of the international release is not fully clear, but the rumor going around right now is that it was done for the Chinese market release of the show.
None of the changes made were that big, but it's definitely something to be aware of. Particularly since Mushoku Tensei has had persistent issues with censorship in its international releases with the first 11 Light Novels infamously having to be re-issued in English due to substantial censorship that eventually made the plot incoherent. Side by side comparisons of some of the changed scenes are floating around online.
Hopefully this is just an isolated incident, but it will definitely be something to watch out for during season 2."
Ohhhh, that's the angry thread I ran into today. There was a set of tweets - you know how twitter does that thing now where instead of just having the thread actually connected to the tweet you were reading, it'll cut that off and show you other threads entirely? - I stumbled on that were crying about "Crunchyroll censorship", which I almost commented on but decided I lacked the context. Glad I stopped myself - the situation for a currently airing show is different then what I was gearing up to say.
Anyway, something like this, Crunchyroll has no control over, they just get whatever episode the Japanese studio gave them.
Once again this episode could be so good if the author wasn't chronically addicted to being tacky as fuck. Rudeus barely managing day by day, desperately needing human connection but being afraid to reach out for it and struggling to let go of his former attachments is okay. It's good. But why, just why, must the moment of emotional catharsis have to come with him CRYING INTO THE UNDERWEAR HE STOLE LIKE THE CREEP HE IS, FUCK OFF. The worst part is that the fucking tackiness is so predictable I already guessed what he was gripping in the middle of his panic attacks before if was revealed
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysI actually thought it was Eris’ hair that he was holding to control his panic attacks. I groaned when it turned out to be Roxy’s panties. Like, sure, the panties make more sense, but still an ugh moment.
However, I’m less happy with Rudeus getting out of his funk, at least the way it was portrayed in the anime. I dunno, it just felt abrupt? I honestly would not have minded spending three to four episodes with Rudeus moping around.
On to the positive things: Mushoku Tensei’s fantasy world is still immersive, from the way the locals act to the way the bears sleep in their makeshift beds. Great attention to detail all throughout. I quite like Counter Arrow already, too.
Theorizing for upcoming episodes: Rudeus is currently staying in a city known for its magical research, and we know the princess from episode 0 fled her country with the excuse of going on a study trip. Also it makes more sense that Sylphy was reintroduced because she’s about to be reunited with Rudeus again. Then perhaps they can team up to find where Zenith’s been.

Episode 2: Getting it out of the way: those damn panties take me out of it every time they appear. Sigh. At least we get to see Rudeus being a master of magic. Blowing away a blizzard and casually strolling through a herd of impaled buffalo was pretty badass.
Anyway, it’s more obvious in this episode that Rudeus is still down and he’s forcing himself to smile and play nice with Counter Arrow. Which inadvertently helps him because they’re nice guys he can feel a connection with. Shame about Mimir, he barely even got any lines before he croaked. Maybe Rudeus will now become a more permanent fixture of their party?
Seems like Sara is being set up as the love interest this arc. Sylphy better come quick.
Really loved the Galgau Ruins. Had such a nice JRPG vibe to it, man-eating lizard monsters notwithstanding.
The episode was fine but it did skip a lot of content from the corresponding chapters of the novel, from what I am being told. Besides that, the panties are a mainstay for the whole run, I was also told.
I got a kick of the image of the demon empress in her adult form, given it means she just dressed like that no matter her physical age.

Yeah, I feel like none of us would be complaining this much if there was just a bit of fanservice more typical of other shows.
I commented on it multiple times when it was airing weekly, but there were so many episodes that would have been outright excellent if you cut out a few minutes worth of sleezy fanservice.
