The Mockingbird Watches (A Hunger Games Murdergame)

Introduction

You find yourself in a fancy room of a strange city. Looking around, you hear flamboyant-looking people saying Panem and the Capitol among their chatterings. Then suddenly, a man enters your room and says, "Welcome to the 1st season of the multiversal Hunger Games. May the odds be with you."

What is this?

The Mockingbird Watches is a Murdergame based on the Hunger Games. Your character will first start in the Capitol, where they will be talking with sponsors, being briefed by their respective trainers and paraded before they are sent into the Arena.

In the Arena, it is an obvious kill or be killed situation as you can see from the novels or films.

Gameplay

We will first start a season by having our characters be coached by their respective trainers, before meeting with some individuals to promote them to the sponsors, then being paraded as they are sent to the Arena. Also, four of the tributes may be randomly selected as careers, who will be granted more knowledge of the game, more training and more favor from sponsors. The tributes will then be launched from the Launch Room.

In the Arena, it's a free-for-all, though alliances can also be made to help survival. But first, let's note the locations and features. First, the Cornucopia will be the place where you can restock your supplies. It will be a tribute's first destination in the Bloodbath and it will be restocked during the Feast. Next, watch out for the Pods. As their name indicates, they are random pods that contain various kinds of traps, ranging from mutts, harmful substances, horrifying execution devices, etc. Third is the Forcefield, which is meant to prevent escape. However, it's solid and electrical, so you can figure out something to exploit it.

Then the wildlife. Like in the original Hunger Games, there will be muttations, vicious beasts that are engineered from animals and fallen tributes. It will also feature other animals, like the tracker jackers that can cause hallucination and severe poisoning for example. Then there are also poisonous plants in addition to edible ones.

In addition, the Gamemakers can manipulate situations with their discretion. They can encourage something to happen or trigger an Arena Event, which is an Arena-wide event intended to affect every tribute. Also there are Sponsors who can gift a tribute they root for various supplies, from food, weapons, medicine and more.

As for the action system, it will run on RTD. It can encompass combat, impressing sponsors, building a camp, scavenging and others. Basically, most actions will be determined in their success by rolls. However, the combat system will exclusively feature positive or negative modifiers (both adding or subtracting by 1 respectively) that will be based on a tribute's strength or weaknesses and applied after the initial roll. For example, if your tribute is physically weak but tries to perform an attack that requires a lot of physical fitness, they will get a negative modifier. Likewise, if they perform an attack that is best suited to their strength, they will get a positive modifier. In addition, injuries will also be factored into the negative modifier.

Also, a player can have their tribute try to perform a counter-action when they are being attacked. The roll will determine if they immediately get killed, merely get injured, successfully avoid injury, manage to counter and hurt their attacker, or even overpower and kill them.

1. No Godmodding. It will be unfair and ruin the fun out of everyone if you do so. For details of what constitutes godmodding, you can read this.

2. No sharing of D Ms from the host until the round is over.

3. Don't be a dick. If you do so here or anywhere else, then you'll be banned from this RP and it's future iterations.

4. If you can't post within a week, you'll be automatically replaced, unless if you give a reason why so. Speaking of, please DM if you want to quit. Don't gamethrow.

5. If you get kicked, banned or unable to participate anymore, your character will be killed off and replaced.

6. If your character getsget killed, you won't be able to post for the rest of the season.

7. Editing will be allowed, but only for minor spelling/grammar mistakes. Also specify what's edited in spoilered text. If you are caught changing actions entirely, you'll be warned and the action will be assumed to go negatively. If you repeatedly make the offense, then you will be kicked.

Source Material: Centipede (1998)
Backstory: "Now, Wally wasn't one of the usual heroes, in fact, he wasn't a hero at all. He was just a simple bean counter. But when you're asked to save the world... you don't ask why. You just make it happen." That was a year ago, and somehow, Wally did manage to destroy the Queen Pede and save all of Weedom.
Abilities and Equipment: "When the word came down that the legend had come to life, we built the Shooter." The original Shooter was a hovercraft with a modular laser cannon and an Automatic Magic Relocator. However, for this adventure, Wally is equipped with the Shooter Mini — a handheld phaser with rather less firepower than the original, and no AMR, but it's just as modular and frankly much more conveniently-sized. Other than that, he's pretty much what you'd expect from a bean counter.
Other: Wally has asked us to inform all y'all that you should not look at any of this, as it would embarrass him greatly.

Backstory: No one's been able to figure out exactly WHO he is... He's been sighted doing heists in many places, ranging from bank robberies, prison and complex escapes, and even infiltrations of the bases of top criminal organizations. He's gained a lot of infamy because of this, and yet, despite this, he's been able to collaborate and gain ties with both the government and the Toppat Clan, while also showing that he can take them on and win at the same time.

Abilities and Equipment (includes weaknesses): He doesn't have that much in superpowers. He's mostly just your average guy (er... stick-figure). That being said, he DOES have both cunning skills in using the surrounding environment to his advantage, as well as the items he has on him, which include, but are not limited to, teleporters, pennies, and other assorted items, including a scooter that he rides on. He also has insane luck that sometimes plays to his benefit. However, his luck, as well as his items, can also backfire on him on occasion as well.

Other: He really doesn't talk much, as he's (mostly) mute. For the few times that he DOES talk, he'll do so in white text.

Appearance: Has lightly tanned skin, a bald head, bushy black eyebrows, and a handlebar mustache. Wears a stereotypical chef’s outfit.

Backstory: From a young age, Papa Louie has been fascinated by the world of cooking. He got his start making pizza, and has branched out to almost every type of food imaginable, from grilled cheese to ice cream cookie sundaes.

Abilities and Equipments: (Also include weakness in this): Carries a pizza paddle, as well as a hefty arsenal of foods. Obviously skilled at cooking. Combat-wise, he’s weak at close combat, but good at ranged combat.

Name: Wally

Source Material: Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, as well as Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Backstory: Wally is a young, sickly boy who just moved to Petalburg City. Despite his illness, his dream is to train Pokemon. He starts off with a Zigzagoon he borrowed from Norman and caught a Ralts at Route 102. This Ralts later becomes Gardervoir (in the original Gen 3 games) or Gallade (in the remakes), as well as his signature Pokemon.

Abilities and Equipments: He's got some good battle prowess when it comes to Pokemon battles, but I won't be featuring his Pokémon here, so to replace this, he has good strategic thinking in general. However, physically, he's rather weak^note as expected from a ten-year-old.

Backstory: Beneath the ocean, there once lived a shark. It wanted nothing more than to join the parties going on aboard the pirate ships that often passed by its home, but its fierce and threatening appearance always scared them away, saddening it. Then, one day, it disappeared into the depths... and in its place, was Sorbet Shark Cookie! Now that they’re on land, they’re excited to explore and see what lies beyond the horizon.

Abilities and Equipments: can turn into a shark when underwater, but is a very slow and wobbly walker/runner on land; also cannot speak coherently above the water

Abilities and Equipment: He is very good with weapons. While he is quite heroic and compassionate, he can be very crude and inappropriate.

Appearance:

Kennifer is of average height and on the slim side. She has long, blueish-black (or is it blackish-blue) hair, golden-brown eyes and very pale skin.

Backstory: She may or may not be a vampire, she's never exactly confirmed this one way or the other. She appears to be around 28 or so. Her past is mostly a mystery because of this, although it is known that she got her name because her mother wanted to name her Kendra and her father wanted to name her Jennifer and they compromised. (Also, she may or may not remember things from other murdergames. Or maybe she's just trolling.)

Abilities and Equipments: (Also include weakness in this) Can be very bright and ambitious when she wants to, but can also be a lazy bum. It depends on how personal things get for her (or possibly which way the wind is blowing, her general mood, whether or not she's got wine...). She doesn't have any real superpowers or magical abilities or anything but she's a pretty quick runner. She's also decent at improvising weapons if she needs to. Other than a tendency to be lazy or apathetic if she's not interested in what's going on her main weakness is that she is very fond of drinking red wine, often to the point of getting drunk.

Other: Likes animals. Can be The Gadfly if the mood strikes but turns serious (or gets drunk) when shit gets real. Will talk in purple text.

Backstory: He's reigned champion over every single Pokemon League except Galar, and aims for the top.

Abilities and Equipments: He has a shiny Sudowoodo named Olivina and a Cherrim named Milkshake. He has plenty of Revives on hand if he needs to recover one of his Pokemon. His pokemon are strong, but he otherwise is useless.

Other: He's stubborn and smug, but cares very deeply for his Pokemon.

Source Material: Enter the Arena as Your Avatar (but based on a custom character from Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2)

Backstory: A “multiversal hitman”, Thawn landed in the Arena after a multiversal jump went wrong, but eventually found a Portal Gun and is now on the hunt for a mysterious target.

Abilities and Equipments: Thawn, as a member of the Frieza Race can fly, shoot Ki Blasts, and enter a golden state. His fighting style emphasizes firepower and speed over everything else. He has a habit of assuming that everyone he encounters is his target, even if they’re certainly not.

Attacks

Shootout: Thawn shoots a rapid fire of Ki blasts at the opponent.

Ki Bomb: After charging for some time, Thawn shoots a large Ki blast that detonates after traveling a certain distance.

Evil Explosion: Taken from Piccolo, Thawn creates a short range Ki burst from his hands, knocking his opponents away.

Bomber DX: Thawn charges his fist with Ki power and punches straight forward. “Borrowed” from Nappa.

Super Guard: Sets a Ki bubble around himself to protect him from damage.

Sphere of Destruction: Harnessing the might of Beerus himself, Thawn sends a gigantic ball of Ki at some unlucky foe for massive damage.

Hell Flash: Using a file downloaded straight from Android 16, Thawn sends a Ki Beam towards the ground, creating many pillars of Ki energy around him.

• Source Material: Bungou Stray Dogs
• Appearance: Here.◊
• Backstory: No one really knows. Seems that a random kid just showed up one day and managed to get in cahoots with the Port Mafia.
• Abilities and Equipment:
  • Dogra Magra - Practically a WMD if used correctly, as shown from the wiki: this ability is activated once someone harms Q, upon which a handprint-shaped blotch appears on the target's body to signify that they have been cursed. Q then mutilates the doll that they carry around, and the target(s) get put under mind control by sinister illusions, causing them to attack everyone within proximity in a blind rampage. Once activated, Dogra Magra is inexorable and cannot be terminated at will; the only working method being to cancel it with other nullifying abilities. However, Q can always reactivate their ability whenever they wish to, even after it is nullified. The ability's fatal effect may be counteracted by restraining the target once a handprint blotch appears on them.
    • ...or at least that’s how it works in their source material. For the sake of the roleplay, they’re gonna be nerfed to shit. Sorry, kid. Cursing someone will now require a successful roll against the target, and targets who are already cursed may roll to break the spell as their action. Works similarly to will/death saves in D&D in that they need three successes to nullify it (and only one if they’re restrained). Once nullified, Q cannot reactivate it at will as they normally could.
  • Doll - The tool for activating their ability. A clumsily-stitched smiling sack puppet wrapped in bandages; it has streaks of some strange red liquid down its face. Q never goes without it.

Name: Lawn Gnome Giuseppe Zangara

Source Material: Florien's collection of historical figures with various things done to them.

Appearence:

Backstory: Born in Ferruzzano, Italy, he moved to the United States in 1923, and became a naturalized citizen in 1929. Suffering from gallbladder pain in late 1932, he decided that president Herbert Hoover was secretly a witch and had cursed him. When Herbert Hoover lost reelection to Franklin Roosevelt, Zangara decided that Franklin Roosevelt was the real witch who had cursed him, and attempted to shoot him. Instead, he only succeeded in killing the mayor of Chicago and wounding four others. He was subsequently executed. However, his intensely forgettable legend carried on until the obscure assassins of American presidents, failed and successful alike, reappeared under vague circumstances, warped in various ways. Zangara came back as a vengeful lawn gnome, and now he seeks a chance to kill the Warped Obscure American Politicians who appeared under the same vague circumstances.

Abilities and Equipment: Along with being a champion bricklayer, capable of building effective defensive walls remarkably quickly, he is in possession of one United States Revolver Company .32 Caliber Revolver, and a substantial supply of ammunition for that revolver. He's a decent shot with it too, due to military experience. He's also only three feet tall, and thus difficult to spot and capable of getting into small spaces, while maintaining a remarkable amount of speed, and being significantly stronger than the average person (due to his career in bricklaying and other manual labor) However, his strength is also his weakness. Due to his small size, he has difficulty reaching high-up objects without climbing. Further, he still has gallbladder pain, which can be extremely distracting at times.

Backstory: Melody is from District 1 and is an Avox that volunteered to go into the Hunger Games in the place of the kid she was taking care of. She's rather paranoid of everyone as a result.

Abilities and Equipments: She's chiefly a hand-to-hand combatant but she's not afraid to use whatever is lying around to her advantage. That being said, she's mute and is thus at a disadvantage when it comes to social situations or teamwork with the other tributes.

Other: She "speaks" through sign language, which will be represented in italics.

Name: Jindra

Source Material: My original character

Appearance: Looks like this.◊ If the image doesn't work, I'll upload to Discord. About 1'3".

Backstory: Jindra is an engineering student. They had an OK childhood, being interested in inventing from a young age. The only really major event then was when their left arm was seriously injured at a young age. It healed partially, but can't fully recover. Despite this hinderance, they entered the Engineer's College the day they turned 18, and have proven themselves to be a worthwhile test subject. Currently, they're being tasked with testing a mask designed to assist with curing cataracts. As for the wings... well, they stole them out of curiosity.

Abilities and Equipments: Jindra has two pieces of equipment with them. First is the mask, which is helping somewhat with their poor eyesight. Secondly is the pair of mechanical wings. It's still a prototype, which burns through energy rapidly, can only lift them about one yard, and takes forever to recharge. In terms of abilities, they only really have engineering at their disposal - but it may come in handy.

Name: Maximilian (Max for short)

Place of origin: Mutant Mudds

Backstory: There isn't much, honestly. He is a simple, nerdy kid who lived with his (surprisingly badass) grandma, when the planet was hit with a meteor causing a sentient race of mud creatures, known as the Mudds, to invade Earth. He equips a bubble-powered jet pack, as well as a water gun, to fend them off.

Equipment: The aforementioned bubble jet pack, which can launch him through the air at incredible speeds and can keep him airborne for quite a while, and his surprisingly powerful water gun.

Sorry for doublepost, but we are live.

The future tributes all wake up after being knocked out for who knows how long. As their visions are still blurry, they seem to vaguely remember that a mysterious woman has been visiting them in their respective homeworlds, offering tesserae. She also told everyone that they could get more if they reap themselves. So apparently you all did, and this made you be picked by chance to something she called "The Hunger Games"

That being said, there's also others who may had tried to resist, but failed and got taken away. There's also others who may not offer themselves for the reaping, but still got picked anyway. Whatever their background, they all meet here.

Amiya is the first to wake up as she says,    "ugh, where am I? I remember that I accepted that woman's offer to help Rhodes Island."    She then scans her surroundings to reveal other 15 other pod-like beds aside from the one she's in now. As for the room, it's just in plain, technological white with bits of gray and light blue.

Amiya eventually gets out and walks to all the other pod beds. Fourteen of them contain other potential tributes, but the last, the 16th one, has a suspicious atmosphere to it. It's so opaque that anyone can't immediately see who's inside.

A young boy, seemingly no older than 10, wakes up nearby. He seems nervous, but otherwise, nothing really stands out.

"Uh..uhm, where am I?"

He decided to walk around the room.

Jindra climbs out of their bed. They stretch their arms out, then smile. "I haven't felt this well-rested in ages! Could these beds be some sort of Academy experiment? Hmmm... this style doesn't seem familiar, though."

They approach the boy. "Hey! Do you know where we are?"

The boy shook his head. "No, no I don't. I, uh, don't even know how we got here."
