That's my worry too, but this is a really really good first showing- I hope the full thing and future trailers keep the vibe up, because it's showing a lot of promise already.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaSo have they actually explained what this movie is about? Is this an in universe reboot of the in universe Buzz Lightyear cartoon, or is this about a real guy in that Toy Story universe retroactively making the whole thing sci-fi for some reason. Normally I'd just assume the former but considering Chris Evans said this is "the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on"
.... like what is that even supposed to mean? I'm suspecting that there is gonna be some kinda meta twist about this in the movie itself because otherwise I see no reason for the marketing department to have not clarified this by now.
This looks amazing! I'm unironically interested in what a PG-13 version of this story would look like. But it's pixar, so I doubt they're going for that rating.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midWell, it’s only a teaser, so I don’t want to make all my judgements right now. I’m sort of on the fence about it— something about it just doesn’t vibe with me.
It’s not about the desti-something, it’s about the whatever.Oh snap! I actually forgot this was coming! (Probably because they announced this two years ago.)
NGL, I might need some time to process that this about a human named Buzz rather than a toy named Buzz (the comparison between man and toy
are really uncanny), but I'm really liking what we're seeing here. Using David Bowie's "Starman" was also an excellent touch.
(Though I'm starting to doubt that Buzz's suit will have his signature wings...)
And look!
His spaceship in the trailer has details from the toy's box!
One look at what appear to be human-sized yellow-colored Zaku with "Z"'s on their chest point to "yes".
OH SNAP! It just hit me that the Zurg robots from the Star Command cartoon were yellow!

Seriously! The line of robots at the 1:23-1:25 mark are colored yellow! Just like the Zurg robots from the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command cartoon!
(Also, it looks like one of them is red. Maybe the resemblance to the Zaku isn't a coincidence...)
Am I the only one who sees that?

I came in later season 3 and season four, so I always liked the version of the monologue from those ones.
And the way the theme song evolved.
It'll be interesting to see how this movie goes to be honest.
One Strip! One Strip!Just a heads-up, someone already got a page for this movie ready.
In my sheer excitement, I might've added just a few details.
You might want to check out Creating a Work Page for an Upcoming Work. Tropes need to cite the prerelease material they were spotted in when the work isn't out yet.
Also, three tropes minimum are required, else a mod might be willing to drop the guillotine.
My musician pageRobo Zombie: According to Pete Docter, this movie is meant to be the movie the Buzz Lightyear toy line is based on. In my mind, Buzz is an old pulp space hero from the 1930s ala Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon that has gone through various adaptations, including film serials, feature films and the Star Command animated series.
By the way, Zurg's robots from Star Command are based on the ones from the opening of Toy Story 2.

Oh shoot, I actually didn't realize that.
But still, the robots in this trailer being yellow is definitely a shout-out to Star Command, right?
I mean, yeah the ones in TS2 had yellow mini-robots on the shoulders of the bigger robots, but...
EDIT: Actually watching TS2's opening, they look more like tank-treaded Cylons while the ones here look like Zakus.
EDIT 2: Man, how many of those robots did they make for TS2's opening? I almost want to say like a thousand at least? Man, that's a lot. Really crazy they were able to pull that off in 1999.

Looks like it will do a good job tonally and visually separating itself from other Pixar fare. That doesn't mean that it won't fall into the same tired and true formula everyone is tired of.
