I don't get what you're confused about here? You say time should have moved slower for Buzz but not everyone else, then mention Interstellar as if it did something opposite, but it doesn't contradicts what was previously said. Time moved faster for everyone on Earth, slower for the guys on the trip, which fits the statement time moving slower for Buzz, but not for anyone else.
Sorry, I got the terminology backwards. Time moves faster on the planet, but it doesn't make any sense that way unless the trip was supposed to take four years each time to begin with and them assuming Buzz was dead was because he was experiencing a subjective timeframe that was so fast that he literally couldn't perceive any communication attempts (because they'd be so short from his perspective that the ship might not have been able to pick them up) and the people on the planet didn't realize that.
Basically as per the scenario in the movie, the planet should have experienced four minutes per trip, Buzz should have experienced like...two or less.
A lot of the problems just boil down to one thing though. The fact that no one knew about the time dilation problem (and this is relevant because it gets worse when the fuel is correctly mixed) is bizarre. The other thing about Star Command not ever finding them is a lot less weird, just because it's an uncharted system they found by accident.

Eh, they were trying to make their own stable fuel. I assumed it was an issue from the fact they were jury rigging fuel instead of making the original crystal.
My AO3Okay, I'm at that point where I freely admit that while I still like the bigger world of Lightyear, some things could've been polished on. (And now I find the Zurg twist to be kinda sorta pretty dumb.) Plus, I realize the stupidity of my last post, sorry about that, Ikedatakeshi. Science involving time and quantum stuff makes my brain hurt.
And while the movie didn't make the biggest splash financially (here we glare at Tom Cruise and dinosaurs with mild contempt), apparently its merchandise has been selling extremely well?
Because now we're getting a crazy-smart, crazy-expensive robot of Buzz from Robosen on Spring 2023. (Hope you got $799-$999 on hand!)

Damn, that thing is cool.
Here's hoping that merch sales could potentially lead to a sequel like what happened with Cars. Even if it's just a Disney+ release, I feel like Lightyear was a good starting point with potential to grow into something greater.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonSame! But for the record, Lightyear was released in theaters.
That aside, I don't know what happens when the movie bombs but the merchandise sells like crazy, but I still hope we get some kind of continuation. I do envision that if it does happen, it'd be like Terminator or the Sonic movie series where the first movie was like "pretty darn okay" but it's the second movie that gets everyone thinking "okay, now we're talking. A lot more of that, please!"
Speaking of merchandise, here's a review for another high-end figure of Buzz that won't leave nearly as much of a dent in your wallet as the Robosen robot will. S.H. Figurarts Buzz Lightyear (Alpha Suit)! Spoiler alert: it's a "must" if you're a big fan of space man armor.

I still like the the Zurg is future Buzz twist, but I maintain if the movie had been willing to explore darker fare, it would've been better. I do think this would've been a great movie for pixar to explore pg-13 fare.
Should we still be covering the twist in spoiler warnings at this point?

You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midJust rewatched Lightyear, and while I think it's my favourite blockbuster of the year so far (give or take Death on the Nile) I think the reuse of various lines from the Toy Story films clashes with the movie's "getting stuck in the past is bad" message. Especially at the climax, where Buzz definitively turns his back on his older self's "turn back time" plan by ... saying a nostalgic line from Toy Story 2.
The five best Superman writers are Dan Jurgens, Jeph Loeb, Geoff Johns, Kurt Busiek, and Peter J. Tomasi.
Not really, just because you shouldn't get stuck in the past doesn't mean that is bad to remember or reference it, living in the present doesn't require you to forget and ignore what came before you are fine to have nostalgia for the past as long as it doesn't distract you from the now and what's going to come after that.
Man the entire Zurg is Buzz's future self is just such a dumb idea, even the writers included backdoors to introduce Zurg proper.
Forget this Zurg, this is the real Zurg forever:

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Yeah Buzz Lightyear is supposed to be a corny and cheesy space adventure series, just look at that clip of Zurg, that's the perfect villain you need in a series like that to oppose Buzz and co.
Lightyear just takes itself way too seriously and doesn't have any sense of adventure to it.
I can't imagine this Buzz saying TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"

If it was under real physics, Buzz would absolutely experience time dilation, but the trip would take four minutes from everyone else's perspective but distinctly less than that from his perspective.
Wait, you're saying time should have moved slower for Buzz, but not everyone else? Didn't Interstellar make it so that time on Earth went way faster than the space trip?
Man, science is weird...
