Note: The thread currently has a limit of one post every two hours for non-mod users. Currently, this is hard-coded by the admins, but there are plans to give mods the ability to toggle it without admin intervention. After mods are given the ability to do that, the time limit may be further reduced or removed entirely.
This thread is for discussing the following topics:
- Questions and clarifications about the site's rules and policies pertaining to wiki editing, forum posting, trope launching, and so on.
- If you have an idea for a thread on another part of the forums but aren't sure if creating it would be allowed, feel free to ask here.
This thread is not for any of the following:
- Reporting complaints or concerns about specific moderation decisions (e.g. suspensions and thumps). Report these directly to the admins via the contact form
. Selecting "The Staff" sends your message to the admins only, without making it visible to moderators.
- Queries about thumps applied to your own forum posts, including contesting the validity of a thump. Reply to the relevant moderator via PM for these matters.
- Ban appeals (use the "Edit Banned" thread
in this forum).
- Reporting problems or requesting moderator action in the wiki or forums (use Ask The Tropers or Hollersnote or specialized threads such as "Locked Pages"
).
- Queries about locked On-Topic Conversations (OTC) threads or banned discussion topics. OTC has its own moderation discussion thread here
, and the latest statement on the locked US Politics thread
and other banned OTC topics is here
. Bluntly, when certain OTC threads and topics have repeatedly caused problems, we're not going to provide forum space to discuss them again until the moderation toolkit is equipped to handle those conversations.
- Cut List challenges and queries (they have their own thread here
).
- Requests for changes to the site's code or discussion about such changes, as mods cannot change the code; only the admins can do that. Please direct tech requests to Query Bugs or Tech Wishlist (for bug reports and suggestions for feature additions/changes, respectively), and take other tech-related discussion to the Changelog thread
.
- Crowner actions. Please use the holler function instead.
- Discussion about changing or implementing policies. Please use Wiki Talk for that. (Asking whether it's OK to make a specific thread is acceptable; using this thread in place of such a thread is not.)
- Asking about the whereabouts of inactive mods (or other inactive users) before they return, if they return at all. Use the Absent people thread
for discussing inactive users.
Posts that use this thread in place of the sections listed in the bulleted list above are off-topic.
We're aware that the Edit Banned thread has a Non-Indicative Name, due to it also covering non-editing suspensions. We're not sure whether the name for that thread can even be edited without breaking the special coding that keeps posting restricted to mods and suspended users, so we're leaving it alone for now, because better safe than sorry.

Working documents (drafts, sandboxes, etc.) can be kept wherever - we don't care. The one exception would be sandboxes that moderators are asked to swap into regular pages. Discussion should be on-site and of course so should the finished product.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
The way I understood the argument against the proposed move off-site was indeed that it would move the discussion off-site, and not just the sandbox, but I may have misunderstood.
My proposition was only for the sandbox to move offsite, fwiw.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallRight, my problem is more about the topic itself, which is why I came in to nix the idea. I wouldn't care if, for example, you and DivineFlame100 decided that you were going to use a cloud-based shared Microsoft Word file to discuss updates/changes on VideoGame.Kart Fighter, and five days or five weeks later just dropped all the changes into the article. That wouldn't matter and doesn't affect the site in an ongoing manner. It especially doesn't affect the edits of other users across the entire website. Go nuts on that sort of off-site draft, but don't expect us to resolve any disputes that arise between the two of you based on that.
A potential off-site editing dispute based on reverting the edits of other users? I don't believe it to be probable, but I don't want it to even be a possible thing.
I was responding to Gnome and you were the last poster in this thread that wasn't a moderator. I was just using it for convivence, not because I think either of you have an interest in a work that I found by clicking Random Media. It was just the easiest way to pick a random name.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Hey, mods, Bean Wiggin is sort of having a melt-down on ATT right now because of a TLP draft I called them out for being a dick on. The draft
is here, the thread
is here.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallAlso worth noting that on top of being a trolling little worm, they suicide-baited Jay on the draft before editing their comment. I think that's kind of a big rule breaker.
And they're a ban evader too (Nep permabanned on 2/26, Bean editing around 2/28). (Which, TBH, I kind of suspected early on.)

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Aaaaaand they've just outed themselves as being Nepworks.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallFor the record
, they did appeal the ban from this thread and were released.
The last thing given was a stern warning. They are not ban-evading. Doesn't change the other issues, of course. Many do try to start a new username to try and start off anew. But the problems still arose either way, so it didn't help.
Shadow?
Like I said on PM, they very well might be. There was no indication whether or not the mods banned Nep after their melt-down.
Ohhhh, I forgot they just forced themself to log out instead of getting properly banned the second time.
But given that public suicide threats are a massive no-no, I highly doubt they weren't also banned for their later behavior. But I'm no mod.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Yeah, ATT spoke on them being banned at another point again.
I couldn't find the details publicly.
Thanks for the replies.
Shadow? Can we get a lock or removal on this trash
too?
Sorry about that... but could Tropers.Bean Wiggin be cut or blanked? Its contents are undignified self-humiliation.
Ah, good, if it doesn't get cut it would be good to blank it.

I cutlisted it when I thought they were a ban evader (it's still ambiguous if they were). Hasn't been processed yet.
Slept through almost everything, though I don't think self-humiliation should be a reason to cut someone's troper page (but being a ban evader is). I know that I started to not give much of a shit about my own dignity about three years ago.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)
...C'mon, Piter. Really? What's the benefit in keeping a page that, at best, just serves to humiliate the person who wrote it, and at worst is outright calling someone nasty things? In fact this feels to me like a much better cut reason than the fact that Bean might have been ban evading.
Admittedly, there's no real benefit. Self-Deprecation these days is trendy (just look up "I'm a piece of garbage"), and not everyone has the highest self-esteem, so I kinda think that self-humiliation is up to the person, but you have a point there.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)...Did you read the ATT thread? Because I'm pretty sure they were legitimately serious. It's not Self-Deprecation, it's genuinely unhealthy.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallYeah, after reading it more clearly, I agree. There is a healthy level at Self-Deprecation, but that was too far.

The proposal that was shot down in the discussion linked to above was about moving a sandbox off-site. That's not nearly as bad, since it wouldn't affect ordinary readers of the wiki, but just the people working on the sandbox, but I can understand why it was nixed. It would not just move the sandbox, but the discussion offsite, out of sight of the moderators and the rest of the community.
