In the dark of the night, where the moon is fat and full, the skies starless and black like ash. Across the deep, dark woods under the shadow of vile valleys and ghastly clouds - lies an ancient ruin.

Within the ancient ruin, a sinister gathering surrounds a great bonfire in a rotting hall. The gathering carries musty tomes of ancient arcane lore and texts filled with horror. They whisper tales of the macabre, surreal and downright sinister.

Let us start the Night of Ninety-Nine Horrors,

Ever since the birds did the Bad Thing, the world never was the same. An attack, with devastating impacts greater than both World Wars combined. It seemed so innocent, with the penguin appearances outside of Antartica, and then it was so horrific. I remember the explosions. The screams. And I wish I did not remember such horrors. The images of my family's suffering is one that I will take to my grave- at the plate of a feathered family, celebrating some kind of holiday.

Then my number is called.

The looming, armed birds herd me into the transport truck, the engine roaring to life.

And I was never seen again.

First, there was an appetite.

A deep, hollow hunger. One which ran deeper than the steepest chasms. Food alone cannot sustain me anymore. My palate craved for something more. More visceral, more alive.

Blood and bone, fresh corpse in in front of me. I did not pluck the furs, the feathers. My stomach demanded it so. I took a bite from the corpse. Red splattered my vision. It squirmed. I took another bite, deeper this time, savoring the taste as my teeth ripped through muscles and organs. Wet and chewy. There was a lump over my tongue. It grinded against my molars and ruptured, spraying its succulent juices over my taste buds. And then, I swallow.

I was not sated. More.

Pick up your weapon, even if you hesitate, you cannot give up. Hold on to your ideals, even if you struggle, you cannot waver.

The vile thing...

It is crawling towards me like a cockroach. Its unearthly eyes gazing at me, filled with fungal stench. I can smell its horrible stench, something putrefying. Further and further it became apparent it was something I couldn't comprehend.

The nether regions of the creature was too small for its inhumanly large size, as if it came out of it. Its tail dragged from its nether region, livid with fury. I saw its eyes and I saw its hideous visage beneath it.

I screamed as it lunged at me.

It all seemed like a beautiful day at the beach. The sky was of the brightest blue, the breeze was cool and salty, and most importantly, all my friends were with me. One friend brought a floaty, and I dared him to float out as far as he could. He gave me a determined smile...the last smile of his life.

I watched him float out into the endless blue, which was turning black now. A dark hand rose out, right next to him, and stroked him ever so gently. He looked so intoxicated, yet so oblivious...did he know? I didn't say a word. A great mermaid coiled out of the water, surrounded by dark clouds of ink. They were swallowing him head to toe. She lifted a whip of the brightest gold out of the water and with one final crack, pushed him into the clouds.

He left the earth as silently as he left the shore. And I was the only one who saw him die.
