Sorry about the title but I felt it was best to avoid false advertising from the get go.

Anyway, the show stars Omar Sy and we got our trailer:

I was like "Oh, is that based on the novels" and I was disapointed.

Probably should've added "not the books either" to the title.

There was some drama in France about Arsène Lupin being race lifted, sounds like it's not quite (or not at all) the case in the end.

I dont really care about the racelift part myself. But I'd have loved to see the books' plots adapted

...I'll take what I can get when it comes to Arsene Lupin.

I'm confused, is he supposed to BE the original Arsene Lupin or did he inherit something connected to Lupin and this is an original story?

I'll watch either way.

Just finished episode 2 of this. So far it's a pretty good heist/caper show.

It all comes down to Omar Sy's performance as he has far and away the most screen time and really anchors all the show's elements. Which works, because he's quite charismatic.

It's also quite popular on Netflix, as the first French series to hit the top ten.

Also, and this is minor, but it is very nice to see a show set in Paris that doesnt bombard the audience with establishing shots of the Eifell Tower in between scenes.

I finished the first half of it. I thought it was a very solid heist/caper thrill ride, as you said anchored by Omar Sy being very charismatic. There are some questionable logic leaps (and in particular Assane seems to skeedle past the glaring issues of "cameras" with some bizarre ease) but it's all in good fun.

I actually do enjoy the central concept of the character being in-universe inspired and patterned after Lupin and the stories being used like a "founding myth" of the whole thing.

Instead we're getting the Louvre. I suppose it makes sense. If I were Parisian, I'd be sick and tired of having my city more or less reduced to just that one landmark in popculture as well.

I just finished the series so far. Other than that very annoying cliffhanger, I've enjoyed it. Will be watching the next as well.

I like how they didn't just jump on the Sherlock bandwagon, and have the main character be inspired by Lupin, rather than being "Lupin in modern times".

I just saw the first episode. Really enjoyed it and I liked the twist that makes you fundamentally reevaluate the main character.

I don't think the heist plan totally makes sense either before or after the twist (a whole lot of things could easily have gone wrong) but I'm okay with that because it was still clever and fun.

One thing I did quibble a bit with The whole thing with the chloroform (realistically not causing Instant Sedation is kind of weird. Like I think it works towards the twist, since it furthers the unsympathetic presentation of the caper crew and makes them even guiltier, but it could easily have caused the plan to fail early on.

Something that I find interesting about the use of Lupin as an inspiration is that it allows for a use of tropes that are forgotten tropes at best in English language mystery/heist fiction, although maybe they have more currency in France specifically the idea of the Gentleman Thief being a shadowy figure that has a bunch of different identities.

I think that's why he had them do the chloroform that way, though it could also be down to the stupidity of the crew (which is also probably why he picked them).

Anyone whose ever worked a cleaning job could tell you that you don't spray an aerosol on what you want to use it on. You spray it on a rag, which you then apply to the intended surface.

I loved the twist of the first episode.

When we were in the first episode, my brother thought that the story is the classic case of "Economically poor father who is forced to commit crimes to give his son a good life and pay his debts", then the Twist came and And it turned out that our protagonist was a master of manipulation who managed to fool everyone, including the viewers.

I recently watched "part one", and I rather enjoyed it: the capers seemed clever, and the protagonist was intelligent, capable, fun to watch—but not infallible.

I'm glad that I watched it, and I'm enthused to see the next "part". ^_^

The Lupin Legacy is so meta, they can steal the cable ratings from a streaming platform.
