Sooo pretty notorious Italian manga critic/expert Sommobuta started a series where he lists his top 20 manga (both Shonen and Seinen) and guess which manga is #20?note

Btw, I remember Sommobuta considers the other Dragon Quest Manga, The Emblem of Roto, to be even better (in his words "The brain chooses Roto, the heart chooses Dai")

There isn't an impossible dream, there are only people who give up
Zoom only works on locations the user has already visited (it's basically the equivalent of "fast travel" in videogames) so Popp couldn't use it, but the training allowed him to counter Hadlar's spell (the first one, at least)
Anyway, I really loved this episode, I didn't remember these chapters being this good! The fight with Hadlar showed Popp's development, especially in contrast to how he acted the first time and really liked seeing the various armies, it gave a sense of classic fantasy-epicness (like a much smaller scale Lord of the Rings).
And last, I really liked the return of Crocodine and Hyunkel! I especially love how Crocodine became Big Damn Heroes incarnated since he turned good
Speaking of your last (very understandable) question, the explanation is much simpler and will probably happen in the next episode but, in case you want to know, since it's not much of a spoiler: Crocodine's eagle saved Hyunkel at the last minute, so he simply survived being submerged by lava

There isn't an impossible dream, there are only people who give upEpisode 18: I laughed so hard whenever Pop got mad jealous over Maam hugging Hyunckel. I'm still iffy on Hyunckel surviving but hey, how badass was Crocodine to literally dive into magma to save him? Very, that's how much.
Flazzard is apparently chill with his Curse Field getting thwacked. More glory for him in the end. He's definitely my favorite of the Generals.
Huh, I didn't realize last episode that Hyunckel's armor would be a massive advantage over Hadlar... until Hadlar decides to Kafrizz Hyunckel like fish in a cookpot. Yeowch. Then damn, Hyunckel came in clutch with the kamikaze attack and the head-sword stab. Hadlar's fault for saying where his second heart was.
Oh yeah, finally we reached probably the best fight up until this point. I really liked Crocodine's speech, it really envelop the series' theme of redemption, and my favorite part of the fight is how Hyunckel defeats Hadlar by just turning the sword on his forehead, a very clever touch
Btw, surprisingly, Crunchyroll remembered Dai exist and nominated at the Crunchyroll awards. Granted, it seems is only for Best Fantasy series and nothing else, but still better than nothing, and Dai can still try next year and the next one as well

There isn't an impossible dream, there are only people who give upOk, finally saw the episode. I totally forgot about Hyunckel using his own blood to blind Dai, that's scene is super cool
And yeah, Flazzard is one of my favorite characters (which in a cast that I love so much is alot) as well. And, as already said, I really like how in this series, with probably only 1 exception, every villain has a reedemable trait/reasonable motivation, such as Flazzard's huge ambition coming from him being only 1 year old, and thus lacking any feat the other generals have. It doesn't justify his actions or make him simpathetic, but explains why he acts this way, as well as (little manga spoiler) him being the literal personification of Hadlar's ambition
Only thing that bugged me in this episode is the abrupt end, for the rest it's pretty awesome. The 5 years old child inside of me is screaming with joy and excitement
There isn't an impossible dream, there are only people who give upEpisode 20: In which a tragedy occurs. So long, Magic Bullet Gun. Hope that means an upgrade for Maam. Oh, and I guess goodbye to you too Flazzard. At least it took a full-blown Avan Strash to defeat you for good.
Kinda sad that Crocodine and Hyunckel are going their separate ways. JRPG parties can accommodate five, you know? Next episode will probably be a breather.
And with this episode we officially end the Flazzard arc. Did you enjoy it? Personally, I'm impressed with how the series keep improving with each passing arc, this one truly gave me epic feelings as, contrary from expectations, from a simple rescue mission against one of the demon armies, it turned into an almost full-blown war with 3 armies involved.
I'd say that in this arc everyone shined: Dai mastered the Avan Strash and learned how to activate voluntarly the dragon crest, Maam sacrificed her magic gun to save Leona, Popp showed off his completely natural development in the second time he confronted Hadlar (compare his reactions to the ones at the beginning of the series), Hyunkel has an amazing fight with Hadlar where he avenged his father and Avan and proved his change of heart (but he still doubt to be worth of being a hero, thankfully Leona had the best words for him)
And the villains also had their moment: Flazzard is really an entertaining glory-driven villain with sympathetic motivations and his fight was really cool, but Hadlar proved to be quite a surprise, as usually his kind of character doesn't chase the hero until nearly the endgame, but he's aware that he needs to stop Dai.
I also liked Mystvearn, and I'm surprised to see that his voise is the same of Dio Brando
There isn't an impossible dream, there are only people who give upEpisode 21: Maam leaves the party to learn martial arts. She will be missed. In the meantime, Leona’s a riot. A far cry from the typical JRPG healer personality-wise.
Killvearn has a dope design, I hope he takes a whack at Dai soon. And there’s no way Dai and company aren’t going to fight the castle mecha.
Look, I get you like the series, but try not to gush about it at the expanese of others. Kinda rude.

Watch Symphogear

Anyway, great episode as usual! This adapatation is making me revaluate the series even more positively! I really like Matoriv as a character (I don't mind too much perverted characters, as long as they don't become full blown harassers, which Matoriv does get close but still... his mentor side completely outweight it) and was glad to see his training with Popp and I find it funny that now the team can basically "fast-travel" to old locations
But the biggest bomb is without a doubt the idea of Hadlar to lead a full-assault to the island, it gives a nice twist to the usual formula, as well as giving a pretty good escalation. I can't wait to see the battles the next episode!
