Having not read the latest book by J. K. Rowling, we can't confirm that it is or isn't "actually about the alt-right", but without actually seeing the statement disputed we're kinda on edge about that.
Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.Don't worry about spoilers; we're not gonna read it.
The out-of-context snippets we've seen have given us the impression that JKR is presenting "social justice people who criticize fiction online" as The Bad Guys of the book. How does this line up with the main villain turning out to be a neo-Nazi? Is the villain using them as cover, does JKR present these groups as equivalent, or what?
Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.Well, you see, I don't want to read a 1000-page book by an author who hates me for being trans just to figure out the precise extent to which it is or is not a mouthpiece for her weird beliefs including aforementioned hatred of trans people. I'd rather do something else with my time.
Your defenses of this book have the vibe of someone who read it because they agree with JKR on something and think disagreeing with her is the only reason to dislike the book. Perhaps that is not in fact your intention, but that's the vibe we're getting, so we're probing for more information in an attempt to prove this vibe wrong.
Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.~Berrenta given the attitude and the refusal to defend their position, i am not convinced this was a justified cut.
We'd at least like to see the text which was cut; all we've got to go on as it stands is this thread and the word of one person we're already leery of. We don't even know which YMMV item it claimed to be an example of or what context it provided for that.

Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.Okay, here is what it contained.
By the way, another moderator processed the cut before I could act.
- Bile Fascination: Some people grew morbidly interested in the book once it was revealed that the plot was about a popular content creator getting accused of transphobia (among other things) before getting murdered — which, minus the murder, matched up with the backlash Rowling had been facing for her own transphobia. That being said, there's an equal number of people suggesting that the book be ignored entirely to ensure that Rowling can fade into obscurity faster and thus have less of a platform to share these views.
Well, even without having read the book we know one thing's incorrect: the in-fiction author is primarily getting accused of ableism and racism, not transphobia.
But yes, many people have made that comparison, and some are reading the book (illegally, if they want to avoid supporting JKR) specifically for that reason. Even if the book turns out to not "really" be about that, this is still a reaction people are having.

Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.how does this look for a corrected entry? primarily asking ~wingedcatgirl since it seems like you&'re involved in the discourse.
- Bile Fascination: Some people grew morbidly interested in the book once it was revealed that the plot was about a popular content creator getting accused of ableism and racism before getting murdered — which, minus the murder, parallels the backlash Rowling had been facing for her own transphobia. That being said, there's an equal number of people suggesting that the book be ignored entirely to ensure that Rowling can fade into obscurity faster and thus have less of a platform to share these views.
(removed the pointless plot pothole. plothole?)
Looks accurate to our understanding.
Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.- Dobrynya Nikitich and Zmey Gorynych
: Zmey Gorynych. Despite being referred to in the singular and being introduced with all three heads speaking in unison, the three heads frequently converse with each other and speak independently, with Zmey alternating between referring to himself in the singular and plural (though this might actually be a translation gaffe). The left head has a high-pitched voice, the middle head has a low-pitched voice, and the right head speaks with a pitch somewhere between the other two.
Total honesty mode, the bit about the switching between singular and plural possibly being a translation gaffe was just a guess on my part. I should probably axe it, but I feel like I might need a second opinion, particularly from someone with good transcription skills and knowledge in Russian grammar.
One interesting bit is around 30:20. "We are sick" "I mean, I am sick"
So I found two examples on Adolf Hitlarious that contradict each other.
- Cubby's World Flight by Van Beuren Studios is the earliest known cartoon depicting Adolf Hitlernote . He is simply seen wearing Lederhosen and greeting Cubby with a beer Maß as he passes over Germany in his plane, alongside Paul von Hindenburg and an unidentified blond officer.
- Looney Tunes:
- The 1933 cartoon Bosko's Picture Show includes a mock newsreel, which at one point features vaudeville comedian Jimmy Durante on vacation in "Pretzel, Germany". Durante is shown being chased around by Hitler, who is wearing lederhosen and carrying an ax. This is believed to be the first depiction of Hitler in American pop culture. This section with Hitler is often cut in syndication, however.
So, which of these cartoons was the first to portray Hitler?
From VideoGame.Phantasy Star IV's description:
The tech for the game did require a very expensive cart. The game was first sold at double the average for games at the time.
Can anyone confirm the cart had some special tech in it? Wikipedia does mention the game retailed for around $100 at the time but doesn't specify why.
(Whoever answers this please ping me. It's late and I'll forget to come back here later.)

So, way back in 2017, Daibhid C added a note to the Elizabeth II page confirming that some claims about Doctor Who had been cut.
- Hence why Michael Grade, who screwed the show over in the late '80s, is the only BBC Controller never to be knighted-Michael Grade, who screwed with it, is the only BBC controller not to be knighted.
As a Doctor Who fan who grew up in the eighties, I would love this to be the case, unfortunately the facts are these:
1) Of the 21 Controllers of BBC 1 over the years, only two have been knighted: Sir Paul Fox and Sir Bill Cotton (both about 20 years after their tenure). Not even Lorraine Heggessey was honoured for bringing the show back!
2) Michael Grade is the only Controller of BBC 1 to be made a baron, so either the Queen didn't mind that much or she doesn't actually have that kind of veto power over the honours.
At some point between now and then, it's been added back. Given the flurry of updates regarding the queen's death, I am struggling to find any detail in the change history.
I suspect the statements above are true and it needs to go again, but don't want to start an edit war if that's not so. Anyone able to confirm? Or does this go elsewhere as a Useful Notes / Real Life factual query?
Thanks!

My main source was the Wikipedia category BBC One Controllers
. I've just double-checked it and yep, still only two knighthoods.

YMMV.The Ink Black Heart needs an accuracy check, as the accusations towards the fictional character don't match up with what's written in the work page's description.
It's already on the cut list. ~queenhippolytas, as you made the cut request, I'm certain you can confirm that the description is what's actually going on?
