I'm giving this a short-term (i.e. 3 month) end date.

With regard to Overtook the Manga, some examples are fairly short and don't explain how it caught up with the unfinished narrative of the original.

Basics

What Overtook the Manga is:

  • When an adaptation of a work catches up with or bypasses the narrative of the original, sometimes with Filler

What Overtook the Manga is not:

  • When they run out of source material to adapt after the work has finished; that's Overtook the Series

Some usages, such as in Trivia.Being Human US, seem to be Overtook the Series if not this trope.

For example, from Trivia.Dragon Ball Z:

  • Overtook the Manga: The Garlic Jr. Saga and the Otherworld Budokai Saga were created as a stopgap before the Android and Buu Sagas began.

Short, but didn't quite explain how (not sure on this one).

Then you have examples which could fit Overtook the Series like, Trivia. All Creatures Great And Small:

  • Overtook the Manga: The show eventually ran out of book to adapt and began using scripts without any connection to the books.

and Trivia. The Handmaids Tale, yet this seems to be Overtook the Series:

  • Overtookthe Manga: The series overtook the novel's ambiguous ending with the second season.

I'm slowly checking each example, and would appreciate some help in ensuring that they are not Square Peg Round Trope and that context is given for how the arc has Overtook the Manga not just stating "Alice and Bob's arc was created while the manga was on hiatus as filler".
