Roll to Dodge IX: Monkey King's Misfits

Having seen that Juetian is stable for the moment, angry at the uncivilized and destructive behavior of the attacking demons and still working on adrenaline, Sister Crow goes on the offensive.

> Take the knife dropped by the demon hit with her crossbow. If he's still a threat (showing any signs of hurting anyone), stab him with it. If not, find the nearest demon that could threaten anyone and shoot them with her crossbow.

>Wallop the closest (hostile) demon accross the chops with my flail.

(Junpei, who has summarily just fucking killed himself, is in no position to give orders to his demons, so they just kind of stand there in disappointment.)

>Baihu prods his prone body awkwardly. “Summoner? Is...Is that it?”

“Wow, what a sucker.” says Obariyon. “Shucks, he’s got an awfully deep voice for someone with no balls. And here I actually joined this guy.” It begins to leave the scene, waving a hand over its shoulder. “Hasta la bye bye, assholes, it was fun punchin’ while I knew you.”

Ippon-Datara, on the other hand, can only clang its tongs morosely. “nO mOrE bUiLdiNG wALLs...”

"This isn't getting any better," Yanzi lamented, as she pulled out her small dagger. "Ancestor warrior, thank you for succoring me,"

The ancestor warrior bowed, then vanished. There left only her in the fighting. "I don't know how, if that battle keeps on going, we'll suffer!" she laments.

Without hesitation, Yanzi decides to pull out her possible actions for now.

[Wind-Blown Umbrella gritted its teeth. Damn it! It shouldn't have doubted its abilities earlier! It didn't even get a good look at the surrounding area!

...oh well, it'll just have to deal with it.]

The Monkey King's Misfits: Chapter 7

The story tells of how after the demon-concealer had been hit with lightning and dropped almost dead in the ground, his three demons went and looked at his body.

The white tiger prodded his prone body awkwardly. "Summoner? Is...Is that it?" He muttered in the language of the Kingdom of the Rising Sun.

"Wow, what a sucker." Insulted the little devil after seeing his master's near death. "Shucks, he's got an awfully deep voice for someone with no balls. And here I actually joined this guy." It then began to leave the scene, waving a hand over its shoulder and insulting a goodbye.

As for the metal monster, he could only clang its tongs morosely. His voice rumbled. "No more building walls..."

The fat monk, somewhat tired after healing his sworn brother, had seen the scene that was happening nearby. He cursed: "You evil beast! The ancients said: 'One day as master, one lifetime as father.' No matter what happens, you should have at least a shred of regret towards him."

At the same time, the crow was angry at the uncivilized and destructive behavior of the attacking demons. She took the knife dropped by the demon hit with her crossbow, who was still wincing in pain, and then shot the remaining demon fighting around, hitting an eye again, and making the demon drop down in pain. The short monk then punched it until it died and the Daoist beheaded the stabber demon.

It was now then when they noticed the demon-concealer, and gritting their teeth at the sight of him, they covered his body excluding his nostrils in a layer of water, and the tall monk healed him until he could open his eyes. We will say no more of the group at the Southern Center as we go and see what's happening at the farm.

The eldery monk looked down at his staff, now broken in two pieces. He looked down at the unconscious demon and while keeping an eye on him, he looked at the burly man standing over another body, and noticed the last standing demon about to attack, and he thrusted the sharp ends of the broken staff towards the demon, managing to hit it and push it back in the way.

"Last one!" Shouted the burly fellow, and shoot out a flurry of blue flame from his staff to engulf it. Unexpectedly, the flame did not hit the demon. Instead, it did not leave the staff, and the demon, having recovered quickly from the push, had jumped towards the staff and kicked it against the burly fellow. What a scene:

We will say no more of the White Bull Spirit or the eldery monk as we go and see what is happening to the travellers.

The young foreign monk got back in position and attacked the demon he wwas fighting again. He swiftly swung the staff, and managed to bash the demon's skull open. Not many seconds passed, and his breath cut short.

The farmer looked about and walloped the closest demon accross its chops with his flail, and it also hit another demon in the process too.

"This isn't getting any better," lamented the scribe, as she pulled out her small dagger. "Ancestor warrior, thank you for succoring me."

The ancestor warrior bowed, then vanished. "I don't know how, if that battle keeps on going, we'll suffer!" she lamented.

Without hesitation, the scribe conjured again one of her gods. A small zapping lightning appeared in her hands, and she was going to zap a demon, but unexpectly, the lightning suddenly backfired into her and she was hurt by it, being hit back and landing on the ground.

As for the umbrella, they attacked the nearest demon with a low spinning kick. The demon was kicked over several chi away, and hit a wall.

Mister Sun continued effortlessly beating demons, and soon a pile of dead bodies lay at his feet.

And at that moment was when a demon decided that standing there and attacking wasn't a good idea, and ran away. Less than a li south, the spirit-protected woman was playing ball with the kid. The demon screeched, and the kid screamed when he saw it.

Okay, so the battle is still on despite Mister Sun is killing most of the demons, we are having not one, but two power/weapon backfirings on the team (and after the previous one, too!), and the only demon who didn't reveal his real self yet got hit enough to reveal it. Oops. And to make things worse, there's a demon going after Mel and the kid!

No glossary this chapter (replace chi with "feet" and li with "third of a mile" and it will be ok), just fun facts:

• The insult translated to evil beast I am using here is a version which is a tad high on the Chinese insult levels. (It is the one which can also be translated as "Treacherous domestic animal", not just evil beast itself.) The only reason I let Juewu say it is because for some weird reason Sanzang himself says it in my own freaking children's adaptation JTTW comic. Like, wow, foul mouth moment, heck. Wukong says it a few times in the original book too.
• You are free to imagine if the "lose his flesh and drop his eyes" is just metaphor and the actual thing is just classic Chinese demon instantaneous turning back to real form, or the alternative of his skin melting off and his eyes rolling back in his head. In whichever case, Shouling needs to react to that.

After defeating the demon, Jotaro decides to go wait by the tavern and recover from the battle.

Huang Shouling watches the final demon kick the flame into the man, engulfing him whole. The human disguise melts off before his eyes, revealing the man to be a skeletal demon with flaming blue eyes.

He'd been fighting alongside a demon this whole time. The thought was horrifying. What was this skeleton doing with these cattle? Had this demon eaten the farmer that lived here? But the yellow furred demon was still descending upon the two them. The old monk had to deal with the more immediate threat first.

>Wary, swing the piece of the staff in your right hand against the demon's head.

Sister Crow, although still not feeling wonderful herself, asks Junpei if he's all right and offers him a hand.

"I suppose it is true what they say in my village:

These attackers let themselves be mere feathers to allow a malevolent will to fly. Claws tearing at the hide of civilization. It is not understandable to me."

She looks around warily to be sure there are no more demons lurking about, and listens for any sounds of battle she can't see.

"That's it," Yanzi laments. She looks around, pulling out her sacred scrolls. "I can't handle this much longer,"

As she looks around, she decides to do the unthinkable.

"I have to do it,"

"Boy, stand back!" Alarmelmangai says drawing aruval from behind her

> Assault the demon with your weapon

After hding for a while, Li jumps back into battle.

By the way he’s groaning incomprehensibly and shoving the heels of his palms into his eyes, it looks like he’s more concerned about his public image than surprised not to be dead. Typical. Byakko’s come to notice too; albeit unhelpfully.

“Ah, Summoner—you’re still alive?”

“...If you would know, it seems like the invasion was successfully halted while you were out. No need to exert yourself.”

“Eat me,” Junpei spits.

The Monkey King's Misfits: Chapter 8

The story tells of how after the fat monk insulted the little devil, the devil did not even look back and continued leaving. The fat monk was still enraged, but sighed and walked back towards the demon-concealer, who after blinking a few times grimaced over having been hit after a cool speech. He groaned incomprehensibly in his native language and shoved the heels of his palms into his eyes. It looked like he was more concerned about his public image than surprised not to be dead. The white tiger came to notice too.

"Ah, Summoner — you're still alive?" He said. "...If you would know, it seems like the invasion was successfully halted while you were out. No need to exert yourself."

"Eat me," spat the demon-summoner. The fat monk, ignoring his words, healed him again.

The crow asked the demon-summoner if he was all right and offerred him a hand, while saying:

"I suppose it is true what they say in my village:

These attackers let themselves be mere feathers to allow a malevolent will to fly. Claws tearing at the hide of civilization. It is not understandable to me."

She looked around warily to be sure there are no more demons lurking about, and listened for any sounds of battle she couldn't see. While looking around, she walked over to the garden and tried to pick more plantain. Unexpectedly, the plantain turned out to be a demon, who then showed a human form and attacked with a steel-like hard fan.

"You ungrateful wench." She said. "You already did enough by picking some of my hair to heal your monk, and now you are going to pick more for a stupid idiot who almost killed himself? Know your place, crow spirit, eat this old lady's fan!"

And within a second she had made the one chi fan multiply thrice in size, and hit the crow so hard she was could have died if she had not been caught by the Daoist, whose eyes were quick and his hands, fast. "Miss, are you okay?" He asked.

We will say no more of the crow, the demon-concealer and their company as we go and check on the eldery monk and the White Bull Spirit.

The eldery monk looked at the oxen skeleton which used to be the burly man fighting alongside him the whole time. He was horrified. As an outsider, he did not know about the bandits who were burning farms around, and one of his thoughts was of that the demon had eaten the farmer that lived here. But he had to deal with the more immediate threat first. Wary, he swinged the piece of the staff in his right hand against the demon's head. The White Bull Spirit did the same, and the two staves hit the demon's head so hard that his skull was cracked and his head was smashed to a pulp, and the White Bull Spirit's staff made the heaven collapse and the earth crack.

The ground around them had all split open, and it made the White Bull Spirit fall down and the eldery monk almost slip, and alerted the Earth and City Gods, who appeared and knelt down in a solid part of the land and begged the fallen ox skeleton to have mercy on them.

We will say no more of the eldery monk, the White Bull Spirit and the two local gods as we go and check on the travellers on the streets.

After defeating the demon, the young foreign monk put on a smug smile and decided to go wait by the tavern and recover from the battle.

The farmer attacked the more injured demon and tried to do his level best to kill it, but the demon dodged.

The umbrella chased after the demon at the wall and tried to taunt it before attempting to attack it again, but the demon dodged.

After hiding for a while, the demon child jumped back into battle and tried to stab a demon with his claws, but the demon dodged.

The scribe lamented. She looked around, pulling out her sacred scrolls and sighing. She decided to flee the scene and go back to the tavern. As she was running back, she went and grabbed the umbrella and the demon child, and tucked one under her right arm, and the other under the left arm.

Mister Sun quickly finished over the rest of demons with some swift kicks and punches. He turned around and yelled towards the scribe: "My child, the demons have been all vanquished, why do you flee?"

We will say no more of the travellers as we now see what happened around Granny Lin's house.

"Boy, stand back!" Said the spirit-protected woman drawing a weapon similar to an As-you-wish hook from behind her. She held the hook and attacked the demon, slashing his body in two and splattering blood all around. But the force was too great, and the hook flew several chi away, and the spirit-protected woman tripped and fell.

Welp, at least every furred demon is dead, no? We need to deal with a new demoness over at the garden, that earthquake has been a tad rough and the aruval just flew off (don't worry, nobody got hit by it). What shall you do now?

Glossary:

• Earth and City Gods: The local dieties of Chang'an. Technically there should be like 10 or 18 of them, but we cannot cramp the space at the far,. The ones you got there are the Southeastern Chang'an ones.

Note: The earthquake was not felt at where Junpei and Sister Crow are, but might (and I'm using this slightly) have been noticed by the other people as a little temblor in the ground and nothing else.

Sister Crow accepts the Daoist's help up, wincing. "Thank you. I am alive, at least, which is what matters."

She turned to the plantain-demon. "No thanks to you. I apologize, but I was trying to help this man here after he was injured in the fight. We cannot let this city be burnt to the ground. You, too, would be burnt."

[Wind-Blown Umbrella looked at the scribe as it was being carried in her arms.] "It thoundth like Mithter Thun wath thaying thomething... Did you hear it?"

Huang Shouling watches the ground break and rumble beneath him under the skeletal demon's wrath. He manages to hold his balance as the earth quakes. He looks at the rest of the city; it doesn't seem to be affecting those areas as much just yet. He watches the Earth and City gods appear, begging for mercy.

He faces the White Bull Spirit. "What is this, yaomo? I come across this city to find a horde of demons descending upon it. And you are here, standing in the ruins of what was once a farm. Where is the diligent farmer? Have you consumed them, and have you shattered the earth to consume this city along with them?"

Then, he has a realization. "But if you did all that, why did you fight by my side against those yaoguai?

>Stand guard against the White Bull Demon. But don't attack just yet. Just watch and listen.

Alarmelmangai gets up from the ground slowly rising to see the demons remains strewn across the area and all over her dress.

"எவ்வளவு வருத்தமாக இருக்கிறது, நீங்கள் போராட முடியும் என்று நினைத்தேன் (Evvelavu varuthamaaga irukkiradhu, ningal porada mudiyum endru ninaithen). (How sad it is, I thought you could fight)"

Alarmelmangai turns around to see the boy she was defending cowering, mostly clean of the blood and entrails of the demon she had murdered. He was frightenedand bestricken with a stare stretched to a thousand yards.

> Attempt to comfort the child.

> Find something or somewhere to change clothes and cleanse yourself
