YMMV.Paper Mario The Origami King
- So Okay, It's Average: Reviews praise the visuals, story, writing, exploration, and boss fights, but many find the combat system's lack of a substantial or unique rewards[[note]]The only rewards are coins and confetti, which can easily be found on the overworld[[/note]] along with the lack of the difficulty with regular enemies and the travel partners not contributing much in battle to be detrimental to the gameplay, some wondering why they just didn't make it a straight-up action adventure. %%Overall, general consensus is it's not as bad as feared and even a step up from the previous entry (the story being a good highlight to buy the game), but are still disappointed the turn based sections don't complement the rest of the adventure.
Given the issue with So Okay, It's Average raised here, I find this suspect. This sounds like it has a mix of good and bad parts as opposed to the consistent mediocrity So Okay, It's Average and Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game (which is commended out on the page as under debate. Metacritic currently gives it an 81 (75 being average) critic review and no user reviews, which makes it seem above average and too soon to say respectively.
Should So Okay, It's Average have a waiting period or cleanup?
I was just going to bring that example up, as it was added again. https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=YMMV.PaperMarioTheOrigamiKing
"near all I've seen says while it's better then the previous games, it's just an okay romp at best and to play it mostly for the story and near a lot I've seen from fan reviews on Youtube have the same sentiments. Metacritic ranks it as 80 and audience is at 6.8, that's about average at best."
The Protomen enhanced my life. The user re-added that as a commented out entry. Isn't that against the rules? How are the reviews for the game by the way? Edit: Also an 80 rating sounds good and not average.

Yeah that's an Edit War.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Just bumping to see what we should we do? The user's edit reason is a bit questioning. Mostly the ratings look different. It feels to me that it's not an accurate comparison.
Found this on the film section of Artemis Fowl:
- So Okay, It's Average: The closest thing to a positive response this movie got. For all its faults, it's at least watchable and has some impressive effects.
Can the film qualify, considering the film is already listed on the So Bad, It's Horrible page after getting approval from the "So Bad It's Horrible" clean up thread.
So Okay, It's Average and So Bad, It's Horrible should be mutually exclusive, and its Horrible entry has several solid reasons why it belongs there and not in Average.
This is on YMMV.Ex Machina:
- So Okay, It's Average: The movie received praise for its unique ideas and excellent special effects, but has ended up becoming rather forgotten due to the execution not being very good. The story tends to chug along at a slow pace and for many ends up being too depressing with rather obvious twists.
This is just a "good and bad aspects" example, and considering it got great reviews from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, this seems to be someone's personal opinion.
back lolFound this on Cursed:
- So Okay, It's Average: General consensus is that the series is a generic fantasy with Arthurian names slapped on it, with its brights spots being bogged down in the mess of plotlines.
Feels a lot more like complaining. The "good points" barely get mentioned.
(Don't) take me home.I am starting to think that this trope needs to be taken to the TRS. Can we get a wick check?
Bringing up the following example from Geppetto:
- So Okay, It's Average: Drew Carey's infamous role as the titular character is balanced out by Brent Spiner's spectacular performance as Stromboli, and the rest of the film doesn't have much else to offer than a few One Scene Wonders and - as pointed out by Musical Hell - some wasted ideas that aren't expanded upon.
- So Okay, It's Average: A general consenus of Season 5. While it has its fans and moments, its still rather underwhelming with Flanderization being more than present and more than a handful of stinkers (see Seasonal Rot above).
This just seems more like “this season was bad” rather than “this season was alright, nothing notable”
Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!Bringing up the following example from The Playboy Club:
- So Okay, It's Average: If you don't see it as being about the Real Life Playboy Club and its employees, you might get this reaction.
I deleted this from YMMV.Resident Evil 3 Remake:
- So Okay, It's Average: A general feeling among fans, in frustrating contrast to the previous remake, with Nemesis feeling like a minor case of Demoted to Extra and less of a prevalent threat and other noticeable content cuts, the RE3 remake feels like it was rushed to a significant degree and could have benefited greatly from a longer development cycle.
Pure complaints without the pros that average it out is obvious misuse. Just putting here for reference.
Bringing up the following example from YMMV.Doctor Who S 37 E 1 The Woman Who Fell To Earth:
- So Okay, It's Average: This seems to be the consensus view on the episode based on professional reviews, as well as Metacritic and IMDb user reviewsnote . Most reviewers have good things to say about the actors — especially Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor — and were at least able to reserve judgement on the show's new direction if they weren't enthusiastic about it outright, but the plot is generally seen as generic Monster of the Week story with not much originality. Of course, a lot of them also pointed out that this isn't exactly unusual for a Doctor's first episode, where the focus naturally has to be on introducing them and/or the new companions.
YMMV.The Nun goes back and forth on its YMMV page between So Okay, It's Average and saying the audience genuinely enjoyed it. What should be done here? This seems contradictory.
- So Okay, It's Average: The film has received largely mixed to negative reviews from critics, with a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics (although some viewers find it to be genuinely good) have stated that while the film isn't without its moments and has quite a few great performances, it's hampered by wasting interesting plots and focusing on scares with few lighter moments like what The Conjuring and The Conjuring II did.
Bringing up the following example from Dino Time:
- So Okay, It's Average: What the movie turned out to be, after being expected to be terrible.
That's a ZCE if nothing else.
SoundCloudBringing up the following example from The Three Musketeers (2011):
- So Okay, It's Average: The splendid visuals and some solid performances and action scenes were praised by some critics, though they also criticized the direction and writing (and especially the premise).
"Mix of good and bad parts" example. Cut it.
back lol- So Okay, It's Average: For some fans and reviews, while Car 2 isn't a masterpiece and do find the sudden action shift very odd while likewise disappointed with less focus on Lighting. They do cite it's not as bad as a lot of people keep claiming it to be and, despite the clumsy storytelling, it's still Pixar. The Cars like version of international locales are very creative and beautiful. And some of the action pieces are well directed (The opening in particular) while the points where the tension ramps up being likewise well executed. General consensus is that while it may not be required viewing within the series, it's a harmless watch if you're just curious.
This seems more like a Critical Backlash entry more than SOIA.
Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!Bringing up the following example from The Green Green Grass:
- So Okay, It's Average: It's universally regarded as weaker than its parent show, and it really didn't help that the second season of this show aired alongside the second season of Extras, which went out of its way to tear strips off the classic Brit Com format at every turn and is widely seen as having played a major role in discrediting that format by the start of the 2010s. That being said, most will concede that there are enough positive aspects about the series to avoid lumping it in with some of the other notoriously poor Brit Coms of this era.
As pointed out by this ATT thread, So Okay, It's Average is being misused by people who think the definition of the trope is "Not up to my standards", and is turning into a complaining magnet. Here we are trying to get rid of this and maintain the quality of the trope.
