[up] I believe they are asking what the word "this" refers to in the sentence "I feel that the gender-flipped version is closer to this than to Stay in the Kitchen, so it makes more sense for examples to go here." I am also confused on this point.

I came across this example. I find it dubious because it doesn't sound like the disapproval stems from gender roles.

I checked wicks to "Billy Elliot" Plot and made a list. Does this look good enough?

I wonder if we can rely on real life perceptions of certain occupations and assume similar perceptions within the work? Like the figure skating/ice hockey example — one of those is undeniably seen as feminine and the other masculine IRL. And the example does not mention this, but as context for the Pokemon Adventures example, contests are something like a Pokemon fashion show, and between that and battling... Men Are Strong, Women Are Pretty.

Some of the misuse, where gender roles are not part of the story, fit Fantasy-Forbidding Father.

Most of the examples I've collected don't explain the context enough.

Okay. Sounds like a TRS issue then. Not something we can solve here.

Yeah, this one needs TRS to do anything. Horrible name, too.

What should the original post for TRS look like?

Is this okay as an original post?

The "Billy Elliot" Plot is when a boy has a feminine hobby but someone else wants him to be manly. However, a lot of examples don't explain whether the disapproval stems from gender roles or what gender roles are.

The second problem is that the name doesn't indicate its meaning; the reference to the film Billy Elliot is obscure and breaks the core policy about tropes named after works or characters.

I've compiled a wick check of 52 random examples and determined that only 6 examples were sufficient, with 38 low-context examples, 10 Zero Context Examples, and 2 misuses.

(EDIT for conciseness)

A few examples in the other/uncertain section are there because you ask if the performance arts are considered feminine. I would say yes; performers from stage to screen are invariably Always Camp, All Gays Love Theater, Dancing is Unmanly, etc.

Also, the Sofia the First example is also correct; I'd edit it myself if that weren't 'cheating', but here is additional context from the wiki:
When Garrick asks his son what he's doing with ice-dancing skates, Hugo says that the skates belong to Sofia much to Garrick's relief. Garrick admits that he's suspected (correctly) that his son was taking up ice-dancing, which he declares is for girls. Sofia says that she knows a few boys who ice-dance, but Garrick tells her that the men in his family only participate in rugged sports.

What's the difference between a "Billy Elliot" Plot and Real Men Wear Pink?

Kirby is awesome.

One is a Plot Trope, the other is a Characterization Trope. I feel like this sort of question comes up a lot.
