Truth Through Comedy?

I previously suggested Curt Jester before the decision was reached. Not sure if it would actually work, though.

"Curt" means "rudely brief", and I'm not sure that's the definition we're after here,

Also, if the Stock Character is renamed Court Jester, Curt Jester for the "truth-speaking comedian" will just be a source of confusion.

As I said, I wasn't sure if it would actually work, and was just repeating something I said early in the thread. If this isn't limited to actual jesters, then Truth Through Comedy would probably work. As for a separate trope for actual jesters, Court Jester is a preexisting term, so that name would be fine for a trope about actual jesters.

I was thrown off when I made my previous post because it wasn't clear which of the two tropes the name suggestions were being given for (with the exception of naturalironist giving the suggestion Court Jester for the stock character), since the previous posts gave one name suggestion each and we're splitting the trope. I wasn't sure if the name The Jester would be reused for either of the split-off tropes, but since the rename option doesn't appear to be in consensus range, then we may be reusing that name.

Either way, Comedic Criticism sounds like a term for insulting jokes, which is closer to Actually Pretty Funny (which is more specifically for when the butt of an insulting joke finds it funny) than what we're talking about.

It's definitely not limited to actual jesters; at least, it won't be when we split it.

Here's Sandbox.Court Jester.

I've removed all examples from The Jester that obviously don't fit or were completely zero-context, but some of the remaining examples need more context to explain the setting or what the character does.

So, is that sandbox ready to go? And where are we with respect to the "truth to power" trope?

For the "speaking truth via humor" trope, I propose From The Mouth Of Jesters as a name (as a parallel to "from the mouth of babes" where innocent people speak truth; and keeping the "jester" motif to refer to a person of whom it's expected that they get away with it).

They should all be on the main page and wicks to The Jester. No cleanup has been done yet since there is as of yet nowhere to move to.

Uh, yeah, we haven't done a whole lot of anything yet.

I think we can move the sandbox for Court Jester to the main namespace now.

Next step would be to create a Truth To Power trope; we might need a page name crowner for that, too.

And then take all examples and wicks on The Jester and move them to one of those two, and cut or redirect The Jester.
