People pointed out that the unlce is called Bruno. It seems Disney has an issue with people named Bruno...
Rhyming "Madrigal" with "Madrigal", I see Lin is following his pattern of rhyming "island" with "island" and "subject" with "subject".
I’m thinking of seeing this movie on Saturday. I’m sure everybody will be more relaxed after Thanksgiving and Black Friday by then. :)
Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered!I just finished watching this movie. And I loved it! ![]()

No thoughts just Mirabel concept art
by Disney veteran Jin Kim
Y'know, when I first saw trailers for this film, I had expected it to be a bit more of an adventure type story. Something where Mirabel would have ventured out from the village to save her family. But after seeing it, I was kind of surprised that it was pretty much a small-scale story. Which is good, I like that. Sometimes it's nice to have fantasy stuff where the premise is pretty mundane and smallscale. There isn't even a villain in a conventional sense. There's no big evil threat, it's all down to family issues and working through them.
The music was alright, though I'll admit I don't really remember most of the songs beyond "We Don't Talk About Bruno". Not one of Disney's strongest soundtracks. The themes and characters were what I liked, though. It was nice to see an attempt to flesh out the family some (and lord, speaking as a Mexican, it feels VERY relatable to have all the aunts and uncles living with each other). Luisa in particular, I liked her. The movie already shows some deviation from Disney's sameface issues in their previous movies, but holy hell, props to the filmmakers for getting their way with her design. A woman with actual muscles, I love it.
I noticed they went with the no conventional antagonist trope for a while with these new movies and I think they are running them into the ground like with the twist villains earlier in the 2010's. Again I kind of wish we could have memorable antagonists because I secretly can see Ecanto having an antagonist who is trying to destroy the house.

It is a bit dissapointing. Like, obviously you shouldn't force your story to have a villain. But I feel like we haven't had a traditional disney villain since, like, Wreck-Ralph? Which was back in 2012.
Every film they've put out since then has either been Villain-less (Encanto, Frozen 2, Wreck it Ralph 2, Raya), included a villain as a minor side character (like Tamatoa in Moana), or had its villain be a twist villain who's only revealed near the end. (Big Hero 6, Frozen, Zootopia)
And that's fine. A lot of their movies have been really good. I just miss disney villins, I guess.

Kaze ni Nare!I’d also consider Wreck-It Ralph to have a twist villain, with the most recent “conventional” villain being…Mother Gothel? The non-conventional villains/lack of villains is fine in moderation, but it does mean that we lose out on kick-ass villain songs (“Shiny” notwithstanding).
Anyway, I saw the first half of the movie in the theater today (but then the power went out, so I’ll have to watch the second half another time). Really enjoyed what I’ve seen so far! Especially a fan of Luisa’s musical number.
they're gonna find intelligent life up there on the moon/and the canterbury tales will shoot up to the top of the best-seller list
Strictly speaking, you're probably right about Mother Gothel. I tend to count King Candy because, even though there is a twist near the end regarding his exact identity, he still spends most of the movie acting as the villain. He has a personality. You spend time getting to know him. The twist just adds more context to him, it doesn't completely change his function in the story.

BTW, regarding the Spanish dub, there's some news:
1- All the characters are voiced by Colombian V As or actors with Colombian ancestry, rather than Mexicans or Argentinians. The ADR directing is still done in Mexico, though, being the first time Colombian voice actors dub a Disney film.
2- Just like Coco, the dub will be used in all Spanish-speaking countries, including Spain, due to the Colombian setting.
