[up][up][up] Unless that's something revealed later in Super Star, that's not the case. From what we've heard about the Shaman Fight 500 years ago, Yohken and Matamune killed Patch Hao in the tournament, then they lost at some point and Yvs won the whole thing.

Since we're talking about Munzer family, I want to figure out something that bothered me. From the conversation between Mikihisa and Camel, as well as how Hao says that she can be free, that Seyram's trauma is due to knowing something about Golem as well as her reaction to Hao trying to reveal it, I was under the impression that the twin's mother was sacrificed to animate Golem. Is there another interpretation for it?

I thought it was more that she died of unrelated causes, but Camel managed to capture her spirit and prevented her from moving on to the afterlife to use her to power the Golem. Not that he, himself, killed her.

Fair enough. The word "free" implies she was kept against her will, and the fact that the Golem can eat souls like the Spirit of Fire made me assume the worst. Still kinda horrible considering she can't even communicate in that form.

As for the twins becoming part of a evil team fighting for CAPITALISM, yeah definitely bad. In fact I kinda have many problems with the sequel, in-between Hana being very unlikable, the ww2 pilot becoming his new guardian spirit, the tying in characters from other works into a single universe and the fridging of Jeanne, as well as this. One can at best assume Takei is apathetic towards the implications in order to do something he thinks is cool.

Jeanne getting killed off really did suck. Though, when he showed what actually happened, it was at least an interesting scenario. Jeanne had one last good moment that made the only crack we've seen in whatever YVS is planning.

I just hope all of this leads to something. It's been years since All Star started and it's basically gotten nowhere. If there's a swerve or an explanation, it's still way off.

I feel like Takei is just gonna do this as long as he wants.

Considering all the spin-offs, he's prolly completely invested in the Shaman King property and wants to keep it going as long as he can.

So we may never actually get ending.

Actually what has happened in Flowers/Super Star?

It's mostly set-up for a new tournament type thing called the Flower of Maize. Basically, all of the old Great Spirit entities still exist and act as a kind of council to the current Great Spirit. More than half of them hate Hao's guts, so they've enacted the Flower of Maize where mortal representatives for each of the past Great Spirits will do a new Shaman King fight to determine which of the old gods should take Hao's place, or if Hao should stay.

-breath-

The main villain is YVS, the previous Great Spirit. His physical manifestation is a little illuminati pyramid guy and he's powered by money. Most of what's happened to far is YVS's not!shaman (he empowered a normal guy kid that was about to commit suicide) has been going around setting up machinations for his team's part in the tournament. Killing important characters like Jeanne (to use her spirit). Stealing Amidamaru. Recruiting characters that were supposed to be allies. That kinda stuff.

-deep breath-

Yoh's son, Hana, the main character, has his own stuff going on. He died as a baby, but Hao brought him back to life on Yoh's request, but with some oni crammed into his soul for safe keeping. He lost Amidamaru, but made a friend. He met up with Anna's apprentice, who has inherited the Patch spirits. And then he died and went to hell for a training arc. He's back now, but he doesnt have a body at present. Also the Patch are all dead, save Anna's apprentice, because lizard men called the Rapt showed up and killed them all. In Red Crimson, we see some of the in between stuff and also Ultimo is here and I still dont know why.

I'm missing some stuff, and a lot actually has happened, but it doesnt have a lot o forward momentum. Its all set-up right now. No pay-off.

If someone else wants to fill in gaps feel free. I havent actually read Flowers since it was actively releasing, so I know I missed stuff there. And I could have included the Black Maiden and Hana's not!boyfriend but eh.

I got the impression that the Flower of Maize is a routine thing that happens after every single Shaman Fight, under the conditions that at least three of the previous Shaman Kings disagree with something the new Shaman King tries to do. So, a routine thing after every single Shaman Fight, starting with the 4th one.

Entirely possible.

Oh, the Great Spirit council is called the G8, because there's eight of them now. Most of them are still unidentified, but one of them looks a whole lot like Zeus and two others are almost definitely Jesus and Buddha.

Okay so Flowers started running in 2012 until 2014 where it got cancelled then it got revived in 2018 and has kept on going since.

So a combined humanahhumanah 6-7 years of primarily set-up for the big tournament.

[up] The one on the far left looks vaguely Egyptian.

And multiple spin-off tie-ins for expanded material, but yes.

The guy on the far right is YVS, btw. The illuminati pyramid thing is just his avatar.

Yup Takei is just gonna be doing this until he literally can't draw no more or the profits dry up somehow.

I always get the feeling that when you do sequels to your already successful series, you kinda just subside in a source of permanent stability and safety. You don't really need to make new series or try as hard making them anymore.

He's done other stuff. Ultimo (2008) and Jumbor (2015). Ultimo was pretty good, from what I remember. Batshit insane, but good. I never read Jumbor.

It might be fun to try and figure out what era each Shaman King represents:

  • Hao: 2000 AD

  • Yvs: 1500 AD

  • Jesus Christ: 1 AD

  • Buddha: 500 BC

These are the four we know for sure. That leaves 1000 AD, 500 AD, 1000 BC, and 1500 BC open. Of the four remaining silhouettes, one is obviously Zeus and one looks Egyptian, though I'm not sure on the remaining two.

The Bronze Age collapse happened from 1200 BC to 1150 BC, so that would have been shortly before the 1000 BC Shaman Fight. Maybe this is when Zeus became Shaman King, since Ancient Greece started shortly after in 800 BC? It could have happened in 500 AD, but that was near the end of Ancient Greece's era.

Ancient Egypt was already around for 1,500 years before the first Shaman Fight, so it's very likely that the Egyptian Shaman King was the very first winner in 1500 BC.

Since SK is pretty spin-off crazy, I wouldn't mind a prequel centering on one of those guys and how they won the previous long past tournaments.

Some more information about 1000 AD and 500 AD:

  • 1000 AD was set during the Islamic Golden Age, so that might be caused by the hooded Shaman King second from the left.

  • Unfortunately, Muhammad was born 70 years after the 500 AD Shaman Fight, otherwise he would have been a perfect candidate. The fins on the figure's armor makes me think Atlantis, though, so that's my guess for the 500 AD Shaman King.

I'm a little concerned about the episode titles we've seen recently, since they seem to be condensing a lot of the manga into the first few episodes.

Let's be honest, I highly doubt the franchise is big enough to get the funding necessary to have an adaptation that can cover the original run and the pacing is probably getting rushed to be able to get to the actual tournament.

Tokyo Ghoul sold more than Shaman King, and you know what happened with that.

Yeah, looks like we're going to race to the Shaman King tournament, too, given that that's the only focus.
