Justin Henderson

To tell the truth, a lot of things were happening these days it seemed like.

He'd been planning out with the Safety Crest Alliance how to go about circumventing the Principal's plans. The name might be a little disingenuous. But Justin saw making sure they knew what was going on as a matter of security for the students. He'd even been augmenting and changing up his drones as he got ready for deployment.

No reason however to alert the principal just yet. He and Nestan just had to wait. And if they found reason to prove the man was somehow in league with the monsters who had set up so many violent incidents well...the principal would be null and void.

But of course that was stuff to consider for the future. For now? Justin found himself looking at the new girl. He'd been unsure about where she fit, but it seemed she was definitely with them. He looked around, trying to see if Nestan was around, but then shrugged.

Walking over and smiling, he said, "Well, you'll probably notice we're all kind of a bit strange around here...but its all really great. Name's Justin Henderson, I'm Co-Leader of the Safety Crest Alliance. I'm sure my fellow's around. We're more fun than we sound. If you feel like joining, you can meet a lot of folks and make tons of friends."

Wren

“Yes. We all part of Strange Academy,” Wren nodded solemnly, somewhat reluctantly stepping back so that she wasn't entirely in Razor's face before dropping instinctively down onto all-fours and tilting her head at her again curiously. “Ra-zor. Good name. Like shavy blade. Wren... thinks so, anyway...”

The general consensus seemed to be that this was a good name, so Wren nodded along in absentminded agreement as she gave Razor a friendly smile. Or something close to one, at least.

“Wren called Wren because she has feathers. And copies noise. She doesn't get it either but it's good name. Mem-or-able.”

Cinema - Razor Raleigh

She certainly hoped these were her new classmates, the way they were all crowding around her. If they were lying then she was probably in trouble. Ah well, she could handle trouble, if it came to that. Either way, it was best to deal with their questions one at a time.

First was the plant girl who seemed to share her fashion sense. Razor already liked her. "Hell yeah they did! Well, from what I've heard it was AshMom's idea. I think BeckMom tried to talk her out of it. Anyway, does that mean you're some kinda f**kin alien? That's sick!"

Then came Smiles, who was getting all up in her face about some club. "Dunno if you noticed, man, but I just got here. Haven't even seen the campus yet. It's too soon for me to be throwing my lot in with some club. Especially some lame-a** safety club."

And back to Birdie, who at least took the hint and backed off a bit. Still, she was definitely a weirdo. Razor liked weirdos. She flashed her a smirk. "Thanks." She flapped her own (fake) wings. "Birds of a feather, and all that s**t."

Tally - Day Of

    Before the Cinema
Nestan did not have a dorm with a lab, and certainly did not have the technical skills and the money to make one in her room. But, she only needed a few minutes to consecrate the place to make a ritual chamber, and preventing the smell of decomposition from disturbing her neighbors only took simple precautions.

That first day when they limped home, she had dragged back a single mole body to work with. The mole, with its ribs cut through, made quite the mess on her impromptu autopsy table and she hadn't washed her uniform either. She only kept one hand clean-ish to write notes on what she saw and remembered seeing. The chancery did not require its priestesses to catalogue every pox, blight, etc., but the last priestess of her Lady that Nestan knew of kept meticulous notes. And focusing on the work kept her from getting sick over the many corpses that she left in that cave and that stayed pretty vivid in her mind.

Of course, not being a biologist or even in a high school biochem program and not knowing what these mole-things were, she didn't know how the insides were supposed to look in the first place and she could only note the obvious. But practice makes perfect.

Even after her study, she had not attacked the city again per se. She did take the time before Principal Wormwood set up his goons to go and retrace the way the class had entered the cave in the first place. And, later, she introduced more cave insects to blend in with the mundane population and monitor the place long term. Not that she wouldn't return, but one, the others had to be far away, and two she had to watch the school and that Wren for a couple days.
Then there was Justin's project. Admittedly, when she first offered her help, she had re-offered it to help with what they had discussed earlier. That he went above and beyond was a surprise. A welcome surprise. The name Safety Crest Alliance was... well, she hadn't thought of a name.

And the scope, Justin seemed tireless, darting off here and there, even reaching out to other schools in the town. And creating a local guard was a classic counterinsurgency tool. As Justin threw himself into promoting survival training and tech, Nestan spent the entire time and would spend some time after impressing on the members a very basic thing: not being trigger-happy lunatics. Being attentive, just stopping to look and listen every so often, would help. Knowing what they could use if they were caught in a situation would help. Any of them following anyone who 'looked suspicious' and especially harming them would not.

Cinema

Nestan had marveled at the cat-mobile but she spent most of the time feeding rotting fruit to the single maggot she had riding on her shoulder. The sister was free of armor, deciding on a semi formal sweater set and mushroom hat not unlike when she first arrived. And in general, that was how she dressed whenever she went out. Carrying a sword everywhere would put people off, and occasionally the armor plate needed cleaning and maintenance. Though she technically had her sword on her in a trombone case. She decided on going with or without armor almost at random, but deciding where and when to relax even a little was almost entirely guesswork.
When she got off the bus, carrying her instrument, she hung back from the the disheveled looking child, at least until she could figure out where to buy her a snack and figure out someone to call. Wait, she's a student? Nestan didn't push into the crowd around Razor and only barely heard the girl introduce herself. In response, Nestan simply took off her hat and gave Razor a nod from afar.
"Well..." That left her by Goldie, and she overheard the homeroom teacher's question. "We could stream a movie on an inflatable screen in the park? For next time though. Twas kind of you to arrange a movie day. I appreciate it."

Alexander

As Alex pulled his hand away, he transmuted the residual grime on it into harmless air. Then he stepped back, allowing the others to talk to the new girl. She was surprisingly popular, but she was also, if Alex recalled correctly, the daughter of superheroes. And she was clearly outgoing and upbeat. So perhaps it wasn't surprising at all.

At Nestan's comment, Alex smirked bemusedly. "I could have just created a movie screen and projector for us. And then maybe we could have watched something that wasn't a nonsensical, critically-panned mess."

Micah

“According to things I have read online, The Winkleheimer film series is a-“ his voice changed to someone else entirely, like listing off a You Tube video of a review, “batshit insane, coke dream of an experience. If the film industry created a drug, The Winkleheiner series would be crack cocaine but filled with pesticides and wheat flour. Not a fun experience but one that one won’t forgotten.”

His voice “clicked” back to normal and Micah approached a group, looking between them all. Two new students had joined. One named Wren.

Wren was an enigma and he didn’t know how to read them. His self preservation sensors alerted him to keep his distance.

And Razor, tbe child of Ash and Rebecca, also a “next generation” as it were.

He would have gone to introduce himself but Wren unnerved him (mostly due to getting a weird feed back when he approached her and wanting to maintain a distance until his readings knew what he was in for) and Razor, well, she was getting more than enough attention and didn’t want to overwhelm them.

As for now, like a good bot, he stood off to the side and people watched.

Wren

“...Ehhh. Wren don't care if movie's bad. Wren don't care about movies,” Wren admitted generally, stretching slightly as she glanced over at the theatre in a dismissive fashion. “But Wren likes new friends, so Wren come anyway. She's very gen-er-ous.”

Hmm. The robot person was avoiding her, she'd noticed. Which was annoying, as she liked to poke and prod at new things and he was always a safe distance away. Wren considered this conundrum for a few moments before deciding to just take action then and there—teleporting twice over towards Micah and staring directly into his face in an inquisitive fashion.

“Why you keeping away from Wren? She doesn't bite. You're all metal so it'd hurt Wren's teeth anyway. Taste funny, too.”

Hali smiled at Wren, running a hand through her hair and sprinkling some droplets on it. "Thanks, I was born with it and take care of it"

Hali could only focus on her own work after the last few weeks. Trying to calm things down and try to talk some sense with the measures taken was about all she felt they could do. God knows that some ideas pushed were a bit excessive. And calming dangerous moods wasn't exactly easy.

It feels like running on the fog without using it to relax.

And some things were being planned that she kept side-eying.

A trip to the movies sounded nice, even if it was one of the most ridiculous things to ever hit the screens.

"At least making fun of it is a good time to pass the time" She said, with a shrug. But a smell called to her attention.

"Hello, Razor" She said, with a bow. "It's been a while, Tiny"

Gremory-Movie Sign!

The felinemobile was...memorable. He'd spent the past few days gathering information about Justin's new project. After he'd been blown off at the tunnel, Grem had assumed that he would be persona non grata at the Safety Crest meetings Crest? What was up with that?. Polly had indeed managed to have one of her people added to the security team. What they'd found down there was unknown as of yet, but he was assured that secrets would be shared as they came to light.

So why not take a day to go to the movies? Wearing shorts and one of his favorite t-shirts ("Beware! Contents Under Pressure!"), Gremory was feeling pretty good. Not even the sight of the nearby alley where he and Nestan had had their harrowing adventure back in the day could shake him.

And now! A new face? They were certainly gathered around her like moths to a very grimy candle. Easing between Alex and Justin, he paused a few steps away and nodded. "Geez, folks. Give her some spare oxygen." To her he said "I'm Gremory. Local boy. If you need anything except a dorky social club, let me know. I'm getting some spicy buffalo-flavored popcorn. Interested?"

Cinema - Razor

"Hali!" Razor's face lit up at the sight of the older girl, who was more or less a cousin to her. "Hey, who are you callin Tiny?" she chuckled in a tone that made it clear she wasn't actually offended.

"Sides, if I was bigger I couldn't do this!" With that Razor circled around behind Hali with a sudden burst of speed and climbed onto her back in an impromptu piggyback ride. "How d'ya like that, Dancer?" she teased.

It was only then that she took note of the other new arrival and his offer. "How spicy we talkin? My moms are pretty fond of hot food, so it needs to be pretty f**kin spicy to do it for me." Not a total lie, but not the whole truth either. She liked her food either really spicy or really sweet, and if the popcorn wasn't spicy enough she'd just get candy instead.

“Awww. Wren gives you headaches? Okay...” Wren pouts, kicking the ground a little out of disappointment but nonetheless moving to reinstate that respectable distance between her and Micah. “Wren's very sorry. She knows she's weird. Scanny thingies can't i-dent-i-fy her.”

Not wanting to fuel any more awkwardness, she turned her attention instead to Hali and Razor; who seemed to know each other, judging by their close interactions. Wren cocked her head out of curiosity, taking a moment to scratch behind her ear using her foot before straightening up again.

“What kind of snacks in place? Wren tried popcorn once but made her cough. All... smokey.”

Hali stumbled a bit and let out a yelp when Razor jumped on her back, riding on her.

"Quit it!" She said, holding her breath. She could only hope the smell doesn't linger.

Is that how she wants to play? Well then She resolved.

Making a small ice hand, she sent it to try and poke the little girl on the ribs.

"Want to play?" She said, trying to tickle the girl.

"Of course you would..." Nestan didn't miss a beat. Alex said he could do anything. She was used to that by now. She wasn't and would never be used to the likes of Soheila favoring him for that. "Goldie still arranged the movie. I'm sure you have a phone to watch something in the lobby if the film is that bad."
She moved then, not to crowd Razor but because someone had said popcorn. "Room for more?" she asked Gremory.

Gremory

He grinned at Razor. "Yes, they have Ghost Pepper flavor. Not very popular, but it will burn your tongue. I've never finished a bag." He shrugged. "But that's no reason to stop trying." He struck a pompous pose, flexing his arms. "Real heroes never give up, after all."

Hearing her voice, Gremory paused for a moment before he turned and gave Nestan a different smile, cool and bright. "Of course. I know you're always up for excitement. Not always for choosing the smartest path, but very few of us are perfect in that regard. Did you want spicy too, or something else?" Nodding respectfully to Micah, he kneeled down before Wren. "And you. No popcorn? Hmm. They have mini corn dogs. Hot dogs in dough? Yummy."

Grem stood back up and flashed that same Hawkshaw smile at Justin. Very friendly. "What about you, Justin? Can I get you something from the snack bar before the show? Soda? Maybe licorice? I'm a Junior Mints man myself."

Upon Hali's Back - Razor

Razor began to giggle as she was tickled by Hali's ice hand. "Hey! No fair! That's f**kin cold!" was about all she could squeeze out between laughs. At first, she tightened her grip on Hali in response. Within a minute or two, however, she was worn down to the point where she couldn't maintain her grip. For a moment she considered latching on to Hali with her powers, but no, that would probably be too far.

Instead, she landed on her a** behind Hali, still laughing. "I give. You win this round, Dancer." Pulling herself to her feet, she turned back to Gregory or whatever his name was. "Ghost pepper, eh? That sounds about my speed." She stuck out her tongue and lit a candle-sized flame on the end of it to punctuate her point.

Wait. She was definitely forgetting something here... oh! right! duh. Turning her attention back to Hali, she made a quick gesture with her hand, and suddenly every speck of grime on the blue-haired girl's body was drawn onto her own.

"There ya go. Hell of a lot quicker than a shower, and way more thorough too. BeckMom really got on my a** the last time I forgot to do that after roughhousing with someone."

Nestan had started to giggle upon hearing the story. They were ghost peppers. She understood, and seeing who could last the longest did sound like fun. But that ceased the moment that she saw Gremory's look.
"Have I harmed you?" She'd clasped her hands together staring into her classmate's eyes. His pointed reference to not choosing the smartest path was well, he said it. There was nothing to spot. But it was also less important than this change in general.

Wren

“Please don't talk to Wren like baby. She's not stupid,” Wren flatly responds to Gremory, sniffing a little but unable to disguise the excited glint in her eyes at his suggestion. “Wren forgive if she gets corndogs because she's very nice. Maybe.”

She didn't particularly seem to care about that whole matter, but if it helped solidify things then she'd use it to her advantage. It was a shame that her manipulation attempts were identical to that of a six-year-old's. But there was a certain detectable sarcasm in her tone that perhaps suggested she knew this.

Gremory might've been able to detect a certain look of respect that she was hiding from him; or at least from being blatantly obvious. Perhaps it was his animal side, or perhaps something else. In whatever case, she was figuratively seeming to be looking up to him as well as literally.

Hali laughed a bit as Razor fell "Better luck next time, Lighter"

At least she was clean again, it would have been a nightmare to deal with later. She had memories of that one. But for now, she'll just get a cold drink in the meantime, and something sweet.

Maybe she could get some chocolate?

Gremory

Grem bowed slightly to Wren, making sure to neither stare or avert his eyes. "Sorry, Wren. I just wasn't sure if you knew what corndogs were, is all. I'll get you a few and a soft pretzel as an apology, ok?"

He then turned back to Nestan, and this time he was staring, looking into her eyes without blinking. It wasn't an unfriendly expression, just a very direct one. "Hurt me? I was just talking about your recent desire to run back down that tunnel without proper backup. Oh, and that time we both decided to try out the local Spooky Place. I've never doubted you can look after yourself if things get hairy. You can do what you like and make the allies you choose. I'll always be here to help out and back you up when there's trouble. Because we know there's always trouble."

Finally, he faced Justin. "I have to know: why Safety Crest? That's an odd flourish. It's not as if anyone can't see what you're trying to do, and I don't fully disapprove." One final thin smile. "I don't rate your chances very highly, but I've been an underdog before (sometimes literally), so I wish you luck. Want a soda?''

To the others he said, "Come on, I want to see if there's a bunch of seats free before I get grub. That's four popcorns, four drinks, corndogs, Junior Mints and a pretzel. Anyone else?"

"However things seem..." Nestan reached out to Gremory's hand to give it a brief, calming stroke. "I don't just do what I like. Well, not exactly. I like my people to be content, and I also prefer the gods be pleased."
"In the underground city, I saw a sign, and I was obliged to act, to put myself at risk. Just myself," How everyone reacted after going deep down the tunnel was a surprise. "Your help in trouble is always welcome, and I hope you'd take mine, but I didn't want to drag you into that one."
"And there is always trouble," she tilted her head, pausing a moment. "I'll do what I can with whoever I may help to deal with the trouble, but that doesn't mean I'll forget anyone else. Even if he did leave me in the 'Alley from the A*s-end of of Hell' for my first time going out on the town." She made a face at the memory but her tone clearly wasn't angry.

He nodded at her words. If she didn't understand what he meant, or if she chose not to take sides-well, that was foolish. But he still liked her and respected her desire to be neutral.

"Yeah, I would have done that Alley adventure very differently looking back. I didn't want you to get hurt, after all. And you can't really drag people into trouble if they want to come along. If the gods demand that you go alone into danger, then I will defy them. I'm a Hawkshaw. Gods had best get out of the way when a friend is in danger." His smile softened just a touch, though his teeth still showed.

He paused. This had been a lot more than he'd intended to say, but screw it. "Anyway, Nestan. Do you want a soda with your popcorn?" Thinking better of it and following a wild impulse, he threw up his hands. "To hell with it! Snacks and drinks for everyone on me!"

As the others talked about snacks, Gremory suddenly and generously offered to pay for everyone's food. It was nice to see him getting along with the class. Hopefully being surrounded by good people would make Gremory realize how bad his family really was.

Theatre

When the class entered the movie theatre, the first thing they'd see was a quaint if oddly coloured little lobby. The carpet was painted a light brown with yellow stripes, and the ceiling was chalk white. Put together, it was almost like candy corn.

Though it did match the season.

In the front of the lobby was a portly old goblin manning the ticket booth. He was dressed in a checkered shirt and pair of slacks, his long messy beard unshaven and reaching down to his chest. The goblin running the concessions stand was much the same, if considerably more cleanshaven. Both of them looked across from their posts with thousand-yard stares. Dark bags hung under their red, bleary eyes, the results of years and years of being absolutely dead inside.

Goldie floated into the theatre, though the sight of the staff almost gave her second thoughts. "SUDDENLY GOLDIE HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT PLACE. CLASS MAY WANT TO TAKE THINGS SLOW. MAYBE CHECK IF STAFF STILL BREATHING?"
