Alexander

Justin seemed reasonable enough, and many of the others did as well, even if they weren't quite as ordinary as Justin or himself.

One of them even brought him a cup of coffee. A tiny girl in a dress, who had somehow flown the cup around before hovering to a stop in front of him. It was probably unsanitary for her to actually be in the coffee... though on closer inspection, her hair wasn't wet. Between that and the flying, there was obvious magic involved.

So he shrugged and grabbed the floating mug. "I always look like this. But thank you."

Alex paused, looking down at the girl. "I hope you don't expect me to drink you."

He pointedly ignored the appearance of one Gremory Hawkshaw. Born to influential people in town, Gremory was by all accounts spoiled, and not fond of humans. Working with him would not be fun.

Alex could only hope that Gremory would somehow get himself expelled despite his family's wealth.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

Academy Homeroom

The enormous faux pas of asking the lady to bite her, or seeming to, gave Nestan the strength to have her eyes wander.
She gave a slight wave and a big smile to the blue haired girl who popped in full of energy. "Well, I'm not 'everyone' myself, but working with you will be a joy. I just know it."
Two people marched to the front of the room to introduce themselves. My. They must be amazing people to want to show off like that. "Oh, there won't be need for the spikes," Nestan waved the first, Fala Pine, down. "Nice to meet you, and I do not know which song you are talking about. I think that'll make it easy."
"Nice to meet you too, Gremory," she waved with an equally bright smile at the new lad, deciding to give him the benefit of the doubt in his statement, despite his reputation. "Thanks for pep talk. Though, fair warning, I suspect we'll hear it again when the teacher arrives."
She was already smiling from introductions and the pleasant surprise of running into a boy whose name was close enough to a divine invocation. The Star Wars thing just made her laugh.
"Its his name," Nestan tipped her hat in respect and spoke before quite remembering that she was speaking to Soheila. "And itself a message that he's free to send, and is due to come back into the world." The mainstream anyway. She definitely remembered who it was when the lady asked her about her 'moaning'. To her credit, Nestan was still smiling, albeit it was because she was frozen in that pose for a bit. "Sorry milady," she knocked on her head laughing nervously. "I uh... I am a bit more disciplined than that." Obviously not. "Usually! Could you tell some stories perhaps? I'm a good student."

Justin Henderson

Even though it hadn't exactly gone how Justin thought it would, he still found himself liking Hux, and hoping the two of them would be able to be friends going forward. As weird as Hux was, there was a refreshing earnest feeling to him that Justin could appreciate. "Sure, sounds like fun, Hux."

The younger boy seemed like he was a lot of fun to hang out with, and he...sort of got the reference that Justin made. Ah well, he was good.

It seemed the class was, for all that they were decidedly weird on most accounts except for Alex, a pretty enjoyable space...well, at least until that shithead walked in. Justin immediately recognized the said shithead, namely, Gremory Hawkshaw, who if not for Abus would probably be the first name in Justin's long list of grudges.

When Gremory entered and immediately went about insulting him with that disadvantages talk, Justin took a moment to keep himself cool, and then responded, "Oh yeah, it can be suuuch a disadvantage to be this eminently detestable, eh Gremory? I mean, putting in that much effort to be a total douchebag must take a lot out of you."

Soheila – Homeroom

“No need for formal terms! We're friends here,” Soheila said passively to Nestan, though there was another slight upturn of her lips upon hearing the phrase ‘milady’. “Stories. Stories stories stories. There was the creation of my name, though that's self-indulgent... ah, yes. I learned Dolphin during my trip here. Then mostly Whale. I touched up in Anglerfish before I thought I was going too deep. I tested it on a goldfish once I was on land again but it wasn't responsive.”

She went silent a moment, noticing she was still standing. She promptly picked a seat and crossed her legs, tapping her fingers idly against her desk before remembering to speak again.

“Oh, yes. Land tongues escaped me for a good while. Awkward week of purely inarticulate gargling before I realised something was wrong. But I'd hardly call that a story. A Series Of Unfortunate Events, if you will. I'll have to search through memories for something more substantial.”

One saw fit to perch himself on the edge of the teacher's desk. Soheila hummed a moment, before getting up again. With her hands clasped behind her, she padded towards him without blinking once—leaning down to study him more closely.

There was a sharp poke in the middle of his forehead before she remembered to actually look him in the eyes.

“You're curious. Do your friends call you Grem?” she wondered, tilting her head at him. “Yes yes yes, the disadvantages thing. Etcetera etcetera. A relative matter. Let's see what happens, hmm?” she smiled, straightening her stance once again and momentarily flicking her eyes towards the door. “I like being surprised. I have a feeling. Also, pick a desk. This one's the teacher's. Presumably.”

Gremory shrugged with an innocent, hurt expression on his face, idly waving away the tall girl's finger. "Why so hostile? I'm just stating a fact. The world's a dangerous place. Some people just can't make it. I'm speaking the truth. Don't want anyone to get hurt." He hung his head, then looked back up with an expression of (feigned) sadness. "It pains me. It does. But the teachers won't cut you any slack, so why should I sugarcoat things?"

More seriously, "There have been successful graduates from this school who no one thought would make it. And the teachers are very good-all of you must have been chosen for a reason. Even me." Gremory hopped off the desk and ambled back to a nearby deak. He stopped to place a friendly (?) hand on Justin's desk. Gremory let his body go still and his eyes go catlike for just a moment as he met Justin's gaze. "I'll be watching your progress with great interest, Henderson. Prove me wrong."

Hux

"Oh, you sweet summer child," Hux cooed lightly to Gremory even as his eyes flared crimson and his catlike pupils narrowed. "You know exactly what you meant, Gremory. Don't play coy with me." His grin widened to an almost unhealthy degree, baring his fangs.

"Why, it's almost tragic, the way you manage to piss off everyone in your general vicinity. I've just become friends with this fellow here, and you waltz in with all your sugar and spice, and try to insult him? Do you think I'm stupid?" Hux hissed, smile melting off his face in an instant, creating quite a monstrous visage. "Why, do you think such behavior will endear you terribly to the people around you? You unsightly beast, you uppity mongrel, you may think you're the best around but I say you're nothing!"

Hux's knives rattled in their sheaths and slowly drew themselves out slightly, still vibrating with the sheer force of their owner's anger. Mr. Tibbs yowled and hopped out of Hux's arms and onto the floor.

Oh, dear Lord, that was not a cat.

That was not a cat at all.

To be sure, it was a monstrosity. The thing that was Mr. Tibbs grew and grew and grew until it was the size of a cougar, skin stretching grotesquely over its enlarged skeleton. Its teeth gnashed, too many, too many—and its eyes were locked on Gremory all the while through its slavering transformation.

"Awaiting further orders, young master," it said, contempt lacing its raspy and monotone voice.

"Have this 'fact' then: there are bigger beasts than you about here," added Hux with false cheer in his voice. "And heaven help you if you keep on harassing the other good folk who have been called here for their schooling, because I will be exceedingly pleased to devour you whole."

Micah - Class 1/2

Cold green optics stared forward as the lone figure made his way down the hall, the subtle whirring of his gyros the only thing he could hear as he occasionally glanced at the doors and the number associated with them.

"Alright, Micah, are you ready for your first day of school?" A notably older Mason Bridges asked with a grin as he clasped a hand on his 'sons' shoulder and gave it an excited squeeze.

"As prepared as you have made me, father." His cold, emotionless tone droned back to him, staring up unassumingly and rather boredly at the building before him, his irises widening and shrinking and taking in information at a rapid rate inside his database.

"Well, just think about it like this! You're going down the path of your old man! You're going to be a hero just like me!" He grinned. "Doesn't that make you excited?" "Accessing excitement." Micah continued as his eyes flashed pink for a second, and he turned to his father. "I AM SO EXCITED TO BE A HERO FATHER JUST LIKE YOU I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHERE MY PATH LEADS ME." He said, notably louder but still with no inflection.

"...Gonna...gonna need to patch that when you get settled in." Mason chuckled nervously as he rubbed his shoulder a bit. "Alright, I won't keep you! Now go on, head on in, and start making friends! If all goes according to plan, that Singularity should kick in in the first year!" he winked. "And then, everything will be better."

"Everything will be better." He repeat to himself as he stood in front of the door. He stared at it for a long while, trying to access something by himself. Nervousness, happiness, excitement, terror, ANYTHING.

But nothing.

Had he the ability to, he would have felt disappointment. Instead, his eyes cast forward again as he grabbed the handle and stared at it.

"Accessing excitement."

With that, he threw the door open and stepped inside, looking at the rest of the students in the room, and scanning each and everyone one.

"MY DESIGNATION IS MICAH BRIDGES, CREATION OF MASON BRIDGES AND I HAVE COME TO BECOME A HERO AND ACQUIRE FRIENDS."

Nailed it.

Hali

"Nice to meet you, I am Hali, Hali Everett" She said, with a smile, taking a moment to think, as her hand was raised, as a small amount of water formed over her hand. She lowered her hand and traced a circle with both, forming a ring of water, which then started to freeze.

"I can do that" She said, cheerily.

But then, two things happened, a new, robotic classmate arrived, and a braggart irritated her.

So, like her father taught her, she takes her shot.

"Then make sure to keep up, braggart"

"Of course!" Nestan beamed. All the better. She had forgotten to introduce herself as 'Sister' Nestan, not that it was really necessary outside the circle. She nodded to Soheila's story, not an empty gesture as she had her hands on her chin, leaned over a desk and listened with rapt attention. I did not know the fish and mammals of the deep had so many languages. Well, I would have had I given it a moment's though, but that's why elder things are around.
"Sweet Gremory," the sister started without a hint of irony after Soheila left to confront him. "That's so nice. But we want to keep people from getting hurt too. That's why we're here. Don't worry so much." She clasped her hands and apparently took his sad expression at face value. "We'll go through hard times but such is life. You're set to make alot of close companions here to help you through it."
She left it there, letting Gremory speak with the shy boy and watched the cat...get much bigger. My. ...He or she has to be hungry after growing that much body. Her pet carrier was her only bag, and her own piglet was currently sleeping. Deftly, Nestan withdrew a can of mat and offered it to the now much bigger cat. "And you speak," she said smiling faintly while offering the giant cat food. "Such a darling."
No, not the giant cat. It was the announcement at the door that made her jump. She had to cling to her hat to keep it from flying off. "Oh, Mason Bridges the brilliant engineer." Nestan smoothed her clothing and gave the newcomer a smile. "You must be so proud. Please join us. I mean, its not my classroom but I'm pretty sure you're welcome here."

Rajani watched Hali's creation of an icy circle with the rapture of a child experiencing a magic trick for the first time. "Incredible! So that's where the chill comes from! I'd love to see what else you can do- after class, of course, wouldn't want to annoy the teacher on our first day, haha."

Once the ring had fully frozen over, Raj reached over and took it within their grip. The commotion with the others in the class was too loud to ignore, and so Raj commented on it soon after Hali. "Is it customary for beings like us to greet each other with increasingly hostile threats?" The tone of their voice had not shifted from the chipper one they had addressed Hali with, and they barely even seemed to be paying attention as they raised the icy ring above their head like a halo. "I'm afraid I'm still rather new to meeting others like me!"

Okay, yeah, rumors were true, he was an absolute douchebag, and he seemed to have it out for the Justin kid in particular. He pretty much immediately started getting chewed out by the one with the monster cat, but a little reinforcement couldn't hurt.

Valerie hissed menacingly, her eyes narrowing and becoming those of a predator. "I've heard about you, you know. Impossssible not to, growing up a human in thisssss town. Sssstill, I wassss hoping that the rumorssss weren't actually true. Or at leasssst missssleading. For your sssssake." With a light hiss from Valerie, her babies made a show of snapping in his direction.

"You're right about one thing. We were all chossssen for a reassson. Every persssson in thissss room is dangerousssss, no matter how they might look. Jussssst remember. He's not the only one who could ssssssswallow you whole."

With that, Valerie made a show of unhinging her jaw, opening her mouth far wider than looked remotely natural on her mostly human face, and displaying serpentine fangs that dripped with venom.

Emilia Shade, Snack Sized

"Hmm...? Oh, right; one sec..." The small transparent girl dived back into the coffee without so much as a ripple on its surface, before slowly fading into existence, normal sized and normal looking save for the fact that she was, well, floating a few centimeters off the ground and see through. "Can't say I've ever been drunk before... I've heard it can be quite cruel to a gin and tonic, but who knows, maybe I'd enjoy it~"

Emilia chuckled to herself before seeming to realize something. "Oh, right, introductions... That's an important thing to do when meeting new people, right...? The name's Emilia, Emilia Shade~ Just your ordinary teenage ghost, nothing real special to say about me..."

Off in the periphery, some argument had broken out between... well, Emilia wasn't sure of all the participants, but she knew that the self-declared... Gremlin? Gregory? Greg. Greg sounds right. Was at the center of it, having apparently antagonized half the class into open hostilities. She briefly considered getting involved but thought the better of it - she didn't particularly feel like passing onto the next life just yet, what with so many unknowns involved and ready to pounce. Plus she missed like 90% of the context; the only bit she got was that Gregory was a right knob.

"Sure, world's dangerous, but I thought we were here to make it less so...?" Emilia muttered beneath her breathlessness before glancing back at Alex. "So, um... how do you like your coffee~? Personally, I like things that are less bitter, but..."

Soheila – Homeroom

Please refrain from hostility. It's not always wanted,” Soheila called vaguely, not addressing anyone in particular as she shifted away from Grem with a strangely apelike smile tugging at her lips. Only to halt completely a moment at the hissing snakes and Hux's big cat.

“...I'll be moving over here, then.”

She quashed her smile as she did so, as it was more teeth than pleasantness. The new robotic arrival received widespread arms and a slight bow—as she felt befitting for such a loud entrance.

“Welcome! You're already succeeding,” she greeted to him, a twitch at her lips indicating a form of amusement. “Forgive the atmosphere. It'll pass soon enough.”

Something about her tone at that turn of phrase was as unnerving as it was unreadable. That and she glanced back at the group involved once she said that—the perpetual shade following her making her glassy eyes stand out in a truly uncomfortable fashion. But then she was all over Micah again, and she paused for only a moment to process things.

“I am Soheila. I'll let the others introduce themselves; I shouldn't interfere. I also respond to Sima if it suits you. A pleasure to meet you,” she greeted, outstretching her hand for Micah to shake. She was still a ways off. Her reach was long.

Fala — Class 1/2

The alien girl rolled her eyes. Yeah, she was there for a reason: her parents put her there. They'd noticed how much of a loner she'd become as of late, so instead of the typical high school where it'd just be more of the same song and dance, they put her here. Of course, she wasn't gonna tell him that so she just did the "I'm watching you" gesture at him.

Ah, well, if her parents wanted her to make some friends, she'd at least give it a try. This Micah kid didn't seem like a prick. She looked to him and mumbled "Hey, name's Fala. Nice to meetcha." She then nodded a bit to the others as if to say the same to them.

Alexander

"Alexander Nichols." Alex responded. As the ghost girl spared a glance at Gremory - if nothing else, Gremory was good at making himself the center of attention - he took a sip of the coffee. As expected, it was loaded up with cream. Sweet, not bitter. Exactly as he liked it.

He'd never understood why his father insisted on drinking it black. There was no benefit to it, and it tasted objectively worse.

Sighing in bliss at the soothing warmth, Alex smiled at Emilia. "It's fine. I also prefer sweetness to bitterness. Thank you, Emilia. I'd offer a handshake, but I'm assuming you're intangible when not possessing something."

His attention was then caught by the android entering the room. More specifically, by its declaration that it was made by Mason Bridges. Dr. Bridges was fairly... infamous, in the scientific community. Though given his status as a superhero, being famous wasn't surprising.

What was surprising was that Bridges was able to make artificial intelligence. That had always been more the realm of Alex Selby, so it was interesting to see Bridges put his own spin on the robotics industry.

"Hopefully he doesn't blow up like the rest of his father's creations." Alex muttered, taking another sip of his coffee.

Justin Henderson

Condescension, gloating, cringeworthy elitism and speaking from a perspective of a favored class. Blatantly favored. The Gremory Hawkshaws of the world never needed to fear for what they could fail to do or what they needed to exert effort in. Justin glared after Gremory as he processed Gremory's last taunt directed at him over his humanity. Suggesting Justin couldn't quite make it...!

"I hate you." Justin murmured at Gremory, starting to get up from his seat and staring right through the elitist's back, "I hate you, I hate you, I hate you I wish you'd fucking die I hate you..." Justin realized where this was going and paused as he prepared another invective - breathing and calming himself down. Cool your head, cool your head, cool your head...

Just...don't think about him. Don't give him your time of day. Don't involve yourself with him...

Thankfully the presence of a Bridges android in the classroom distracted him from the loathsome presence of Hawkshaw. He managed to reassemble, smiling somewhat awkwardly as Micah made his introduction. He waved at the android and said, "Welcome to our wonderfully quirky class this evening, Micah. Glad to have you with us."

"Sohelia. Sima. Fala." He repeat, his eyes flickering over the faces as he did, nodding his head as he did and shaking the hands as offered to him. "A pleasure to meet you. A pleasure to meet you."

The smarmy comment about his father was not noted upon, mostly because it was true. His father had a nasty habit of creating inventions that exploded. Some of them even intentionally. Still, in some sense he had some pride for his father and wouldn't dare comment on it.

And then his attention turned to Justin. "Designation: Justin. A pleasure to meet you. The invitation is accepted."

He stared for a moment longer.

"Your internal and external temperature reads higher than the normal body temperature allowance.' He held up his hand, which quickly unfolded into what appeared to be a nozzle. "Do you require rapid cooling down?"

"Oh, me? I uh...no, no, it's fine. Some people just temporarily raise the ol' bodily temperature, you know." He said with a smile. Micah, now Micah Justin could get along with. He figured that making friends with Micah would probably give him a good amount of safety from Abus and any of the other opportunistic bullies. Would that include the likes of Gremory...? Possibly, possibly not. But it was better than just going his lonesome.

Grem whirled around, eyes wide. Blood started dripping from his fingertips and behind his ears as the skin tightened and started to split. "What the hell did you say? Are you threatening me?" His gaze turned stony-first at Justin's words, then the rest of them. He was clearly resigned to trouble. "My family has been in here-in Strangeness Heights for years! I have a responsibility you can't possibly imagine! I-" his finger was even then moving forward to poke Justin in the chest in that painful way bullies seem to master.

Clearly ramping up for a big finish, his words were cut off by a loud, shrill tone. Gremory paused, his face still suffused in anger, and pulled his phone from his pocket. A quick glance at the screen, and his face went ashen. The young man turned away from the others as the streams of blood began to thicken and strange flesh to appear on the back of his head and trembling hands.

"no. no, aunt polly. no, i was just teasing him. and the others. no, i haven't said anything else. yes, I will apologize. no, you don't-please-nononono you don't have to come down here." He glanced over his shoulder, eyes wide. "it's fine. yes, i promise. please. yes. thank you. i will feed him tonight. yes."

Gremory slipped the phone back in his pocket. A moment of concentration and the blood stopped running and skin healed. He absently pulled out a cloth and began wiping up the reddish stains, his trembles fading and color returning to his tanned face. Without looking at the others, he spoke in a low monotone. Not absent sincerity, but not mocking either. "I'm sorry, Justin. That was unkind of me. I shouldn't have said that to you. I wasn't.....being fair. I see you're angry." He straightened up, still not looking at them, and slumped into a chair. "It won't happen again."

Soheila – Homeroom

“Exceptional. You're an efficient one. I'll let you get your bearings,” Soheila smiled and nodded to Micah, her handshake strangely weak and airy before she eventually moved away again. She hadn't been looking, but she was aware of the Gremory situation. She promptly tutted upon seeing his state.

“Dear Gremory. You should cherish your form,” she scolded lightly, striding behind his desk a moment and massaging his shoulders for a brief moment. “Don't slip so much. The skin'll sag.”

She patted him even as she stepped away again, moving now to Justin as if checking people off of a list. It was practically automatic. There was no break in her stride at all. Barely any thought.

“Justin. I don't exaggerate. Neither lie. Usually. Point being, I was honest earlier. Rest easy. In my sight you're as diamonds. As are you all,” she added, glancing around the room before smiling again. “Better that than the alternative.”

Alexander

He continued to sip at his coffee as he observed the altercation between Justin and Gremory. His hand twitched slightly, and he prepared to drop to the ground so as to touch it, in case he needed to transmute a wall between the two.

Fortunately, Gremory seemed to stand down. Unfortunately, he did so because his aunt had apparently threatened him over the phone. Which implied she was somehow observing events, and willing to punish Gremory in some manner that visibly terrified the boy.

Alex pursed his lips, and set his coffee cup on one of the desks to claim it as his. Then he strode towards the duo.

"Gremory." He said, firmly. "I understand your anger, and I hope all of us can work together amicably. However, I also understand basic cause and effect. If your Aunt Polly is abusing you, physically or emotionally, that's something that needs to be addressed. Even if not, the fact that you're clearly afraid of her is concerning in and of itself."

His eyes flicked over to Justin a moment before turning back to Gremory. "I didn't think this is something I'd need to say on the first day, but we're training to be effectively specialized law enforcement. If you have a bad home situation that might compromise your judgement or emotional state, it's best to start working through those sooner rather than later. That means talking to a therapist, or possibly the police, depending on how bad it is."

Alex sighed. "Of course, I can't actually force you, at least not on circumstantial evidence like this, but I'm just throwing this out here now so it doesn't wind up exploding in our collective faces later."

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

Hux

"Hmph!" Hux crossed his arms at the sight of Gremory visibly deflating, not quite willing to forgive him even after hearing Alex's assessment. "Strangeness Heights was officially established 15 years ago; are you telling me your family was here when this place was still considered out in the boonies and not terribly important in the grand scheme of things? Yeah, real prestigious."

"Alex, his aunt clearly wanted him to quit being a dick, is that really evidence of abuse? He clearly knows that what he's done is wrong," he continued reasoning. "So it clearly stands to reason that's he's afraid of being punished for it. Bullies just won't stop until they're taken to task properly."

"I'm not afraid to admit that when my mother gets angry, she can be frightening," Hux added, sneering at Gremory. "So if you want me to feel all sorry for your oh-so-privileged posterior, then tough luck, Your Pathetic Majesty!"

While Hux spat his vitriol at Gremory and eventually turned away to await the arrival of any teacher at all, Mr. Tibbs bent down to sniff at the can of meat being offered to him. Evidently finding it to his liking, he started tucking in, shrinking back into his old shape, taut skin sliding back over his bones until he resembled nothing more than a fat and pampered lap cat.

Justin Henderson

Justin fell back on to his desk as Gremory poked him, glaring up at the bully with an obvious, barely restrained anger at him. On top of dealing with those vile sneering elites when he wasn't in school, he'd have to deal with the worst of them when he was here. What a life this was here. Like Justin gave a damn about whatever Gremory thought his "responsibilities" or "station" here were.

As far as he could see, Gremory just used them as an excuse to sneer and look down at him and anyone else.

Suffice it to say, he didn't feel in the least bad about hoping Grem, and Abus and all those cruel bullies just leaped off a cliff.

"Yeah, yeah it was. But it's not like guys like you make a habit out of caring for flatscans." He scoffed, "Sure it won't Gremory, sure it won't."

Justin sighed and stuffed his hands in his pockets as Alex addressed him. He remembered the first time that he tried to see a therapist. And he remembered his mother storming in and dragging him out. "No son of mine!" She raged, "Is going to be subjected to the horrors of this business of death! Psychologists, therapists, they drug you, put you under the auspices of Big Pharma. You'll never have Karmic and Astral Awareness, Justin! Do you want that!?"

He shook his head, "I'll certainly try. My mom's not a fan of the idea. Of...therapy, that is." Justin listened to Hux going off on Grem, and gave a slight smile and a brief applause.

Emilia Shade - In the Shadow of our Priors

"We could pretend-shake them anyway; I don't mind~" Emilia bounced her response to her new acquaintance. "Nice to meet you, Alex~"

As for the situation with Gregory, it seems things broke up, albeit... with questionable manner and a still lingering tension. Hearing Alex's assessment, all Emilia could do was nod in agreement that a.) Greg was obviously terrified of his aunt and while that could be alright dependent on circumstance, the fact that b.) she was observing his actions somehow meant that she had some spying method on him made her doubt its... ethics. Jeez, not even the start of the first day and school was already a tangled mess of trauma.

...though thinking about it, it was like that at her old school too, minus the supernatural bits.

Poking her head from behind Alex, Emilia gave the clearly very angry but at least cooling off Justin a playful wave. "Hello, I'm Emilia... just an ordinary ghost girl saying hello~ Should we fake-shake hands?"
