Have an idea for a new trope, but don't know for sure if it's a good idea? Did Trope Finder give you similar concepts, but not exactly what you wanted? Are you just looking for a focus to a broader idea?
You've come to the right place!
On this thread, you can share your ideas with the masses before making that TLP draft, so if there's any lingering uncertainty about the validity of your idea or you just want some help pinning down a good idea, ask away and help others out, too!
A related sandbox I need to pitch is the Trope Idea Salvage Yard. If you've an idea but can't personally work on it, you can add it to the yard and let someone else create the draft. Or you can browse it yourself if you need more draft ideas, whether or not you feel they should be mentioned here first.
Got ideas for non-trope pages you need help with? Never fear, the New Page Workshop Thread
is here!
With that out of the way: Let's discuss some ideas.

Hemo Erotic is closer.

Outside of the tropes listed (and Bloodlust) what more would there be to cover?
- a human drinking blood bc they like blood = Bloodlust
- human drinking blood bc it turns them on = Hemo Erotic
- supernatural creature drinking blood b/c they don't eat human food = I Do Not Drink...Wine or Vampiric Draining
- supernatural creature drinking blood to extend their life = Life Drinker

Okay, I remembered my idea.
It was the idea of characters almost being late. The dramatic scene of them rushing, dealing with random obstacles, and stressing just to make it somewhere in the last second before they're out of time.
We have Just in Time and Race Against the Clock, but both of those are way more high-stakes and heroic than what I'm thinking of.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallWas going to put the latter in Significant Name Overlap, but a trope for "A family repeats names" is something we don't have, last I checked? Even for royal families reusing names, I think?:
- Michiko. [Note: Search that page, you know what you mean.]
- Family Theme Naming: The innkeeper John, whose father and grandfather were also named John. If the PC marries him, they end up having a daughter whom they name Johanna.
What's a good name for the concept, so I can drop it in the Salvage Yard?
Note to Self: Feed Name Nameson draft to that broader concept.
Family Repeat Naming? Like Repetitive Name and Family Theme Naming? But is Repeat Naming too ambiguous and sounds like it could mean Repetitive Name "Exact" type, Surname = First name, like Johnson Johnson?

It pops up in places like Dhar Mann videos and Tandy Computer Whiz Kids, and I think it might've been in House of Anubis as well (even if downplayed, as it was a trip for the graduating class of a boarding school, but still).

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallHaven’t seen that trope at all, unfortunately. It sounds like a good idea.
Also, is there anything to do with dilating doors malfunctioning. I figured it could be used for drama (like trapping people into some place) or for showing that the building is so poor quality or in disrepair that the doors don’t even work properly.

I discussed an idea here
—an inversion (?) of Meet Cute, where a couple's first meeting is disastrous, embarrassing, results in them hating each other, dangerous, etc. I've seen this before but can't recall any specific examples; I think it's fairly common for cases of Battle Couples and Belligerent Sexual Tension.
The description already seems to include that.
Possibly they have an instant dislike for one another. Maybe they crash into each other in a hallway and papers fly about. Maybe one of them has been shopping for ISO-Standard Urban Groceries and trips over the other walking down the street. Perhaps mistaken identity or other wacky misunderstanding is involved. Sometimes someone is naked or in an otherwise embarrassing situation.

Yeah, it struck me as odd that they're both under the same umbrella. If it means anything, fanfic culture (where the term is used frequently) seems to distinguish cleanly between the two.
I redesigned Trope-tan! ➯ my pronouns are ze/hirI'm not familiar with any split in the meaning in fandom, but outside of fandom
, the term seems to be broader.
Here's a couple sources talking about different types of meet-cute [1]
[2]
- Pull / Pull — the characters are instantly and mutually attracted to each other
- Push / Push — the characters are instantly and mutually disinterested in each other
- Push / Pull — one character is instantly attracted but the other character is disinterested
- Neutral / Nervous — one character awkwardly tries to hide their attraction while the other character is oblivious to the situation
Looking at Fanlore
... ah I see, some people use "meet-ugly".
Yep, that's the one. This specific subtrope would probably apply only to the Push - Push variant.
I redesigned Trope-tan! ➯ my pronouns are ze/hirI just remembered an idea I had years ago for a "handheld game ghetto" audience reaction, where handheld games are generally under the radar and aren't nearly as critically acclaimed as their console counterparts. Like, when was the last time you saw a handheld game on a "best games of all time" list? However, this seems more like a Trope in Aggregate, so I'm not sure what examples it could collect. (Franchises where the console games are almost always more popular? Games that broke out of the ghetto? Award Snub victims?)

That sounds like a good idea if we stick to series that originated on consoles (meaning Pokémon wouldn't count, since it was originally primarily a handheld series and the console games were spinoffs until the main series moved to the Nintendo Switch). I can't say I've ever seen anyone think of Super Mario Land or Super Mario Land 2 as highly as the NES and SNES installments of the Super Mario Bros. series (and I say that as someone who likes them). They're probably more well regarded now than they used to be, but around when the series first made its Video Game 3D Leap, the NES and SNES games were probably the go-to examples of 2D Mario games, at least from what I remember of the '90s and early 2000s; at the very least, the NES and the SNES installments were the only 2D games that were the subject of Mythology Gags in the 3D games.

I got a rock for Halloween.I wonder if there might be merit to a Does Not Like Spam equivalent for people who dislike wearing specific articles of clothing.
Such as? We have Does Not Like Shoes and Hates Wearing Dresses...

Pokémon is a franchise that breaks out of the ghetto.

Also, Miyamoto wasn't involved with the Super Mario Land games. It seems like a lot of handheld games are B Team Sequels.
and

Kirby also originated on a handheld video game platform (the original Game Boy to be more specific), yet managed to break the ghetto and is currently among the top Nintendo franchises that aren't Mario, Zelda, or Pokémon.
Kirby is practically mainstream in Japan. In the West, Kirby is rapidly gaining mainstream status, especially given the positive reception of the upcoming game, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, even among non-Nintendo fans.

Kirby is awesome.
I was about to say that Kirby would still count because its handheld games aren't brought up nearly as much as those other franchises you mentioned... but then I realised that the console games aren't, either, except maybe Super Star.
When I typed that post, I was thinking about Ōkamiden. The original Ōkami is a huge case of First Installment Wins; it's one of the most famous Acclaimed Flops in all of gaming and has been re-released many times, but people routinely forget it even had a sequel.

Do we have a trope for blood-drinking in general? That feels emblematic, but the closest I see is Vampiric Draining and Life Drinker, both of which have more to do with life in general than with blood. An user at trope finder mentioned I Do Not Drink...Wine, but I still think it is too broad.
