I was expecting it to be done in 3D CGI rather than in what I think is ToonBoom, and am pleasantly surprised (though kinda wish the characters didn't look as much like Minifigures).
The animation reminds me of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, due to the high-energy movements.
The show is animated by Flying Bark Productions, which also works on Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Glitch Techs. Phil Jacobson is a storyboard artist for all three.

Could worked better in the classic Lego 3D-esque animation, but it still looks cool. Nice to see that Wukong hasn't got the headband.
But really, what's with "Monkie"? Why not Monkey or something?

If there's a book you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it. Toni Morrison
Using "Monkie" rather than "Monkey" does sound unusual. Maybe there's a reason for it.
As for Wukong's headband, I looked it up and the headband was devised by the heavens as a punishment to Sun Wukong for killing six thieves shortly after being released from his five hundred-year-long imprisonment to reign in his impulsive nature.
So what does it mean if he doesn't have it? Has he redeemed himself or something?
It seems the toy line that comes out as a tie-in with this show is called "Monkie Kid" in some countries and "Monkey Kid" in others. I guess "Monkie" is a variant on Xtreme Kool Letterz. Also, maybe it is easier to trademark due to not being an actual word?

Yeah, he loses it at the end of the story when he becomes a Buddha (the one of Victorious Battle). Most adaptations still have it when the story is said to have ended, so that's a good thing here.

Huh, okay then.
He was Etrigan in Justice League Action, he's perfect!

It seems like the intro was recently released in Japan. Also, it seems like Alan Denton (Sonic Boom, Sunny Day) might be writing for the series, but it's not confirmed yet. Greg Hahn is here though.

Also, Jeremy Adams said that there's still no home for the show yet.

Lego seems to like doing Spiritual Adaptations. First to Thundercats with Chima, then now Dragon Ball.
Ooooooookaaaaaaaayyyyy??
Thousand Dreamers, Watashi wa Saikyo, and Believe slap so hard.
Monkie Kid is supposed to be directly based on Journey to the West, which Dragon Ball loosely followed in its earlier stories. The whole brand is aimed to appeal to the Chinese market, with the help of local consultants, who have a liking to adaptations of their works.
That being said, that hasn't really stopped the series from making Dragon Ball-related in joke (such as Sean Schemmel voicing the Monkey King in the English dub).

Sokka is the Avatar now, and he just had to travel to another show to do it.

On another note, season 2 started airing, but the show hasn't aired in America yet.
MK is playing with his staff the same way Aang did when he showed off to that Water Tribe village that swooned over him?

All right, that tears it. I'm now ready to donate my liver to science if it means I can watch LEGO Monkie Kid in an official capacity (preferably Netflix USA), because damn it, while I've yet to see a whole episode, this show is perhaps the funnest LEGO thing since The LEGO Movie just from out-of-context stuff alone.
Bump.
This has more to do with LEGO itself, but…
WHO'S READY FOR THE FIRST OFFICIAL LEGO CONVENTION?

So, here's something I just recently discovered. There's a 2D Lego show called Lego Monkie Kid. It looks Jeremy Adams is the head writer given this tweet he put out . I've never heard of this, yet I'm hooked.

"According to LEGO, Monkie Kid is a modern interpretation of the half-a-millennia-old Chinese fable where an ordinary boy finds the Monkey King’s legendary magical staff and becomes the chosen one to stop the Demon Bull King. The TV show and theme have been in development for more than two years, including close collaboration with children and parents in China to ensure the theme is authentic to local culture and honors Chinese tradition."
