28.1. The trope is clear enough from that, no need for the extra panel.

I like 28.1

It has about as much text as 28.1 — 26 words vs 21. And the adoring look with clasped hands + broken heart says quite a bit.

But only the text indicates the orientation part. The visuals only show a girl being in love with a boy who doesn't want her; the actual context comes from the text.

At least in 28, we see the something gay happening first.

I like 28.1 better than 31.

That's not any better than 28.1.

Nice. I like that one better than 28.1 because it's not as tall and the general composition looks a lot better. It can work with 2 panels as well, though I don't mind 3. I've added the latest option in the crowner, BTW.

I dunno, she doesn’t explicitly say she’s rejecting Viv because she’s not into women; the phrasing could be misconstrued for “I don’t see you like that”. Keeping the third panel kind of implies that, but not enough IMO.

37 is the strongest so far. It's the most concise and and I don't think it's misleading.

You have to remember that the page itself gives context, so any implications (especially strong implications) are confirmed.

I mean, there's a difference between "the image doesn't spell everything out" and "the image can be interpreted multiple ways". I strongly believe in the former on principle, but I think that suggestion falls into the latter.
