... Do... do the people saying these things think they have to relate to anything in a movie to enjoy it?
I just watched Turning Red. It's pretty good. Not as good as Encanto if you ask me, but still entirely enjoyable. I thought it was very nice to have a film where the theme of "growing up" wasn't so much about becoming an adult but about getting to enjoy puberty.
I'm honestly not sure what could possibly be considered controversial about it. Yeah, it includes pretty frank discussions of periods and stuff, but isn't breaking down unproductive taboo a good thing?
I'm gonna assume its bigotry like what other posts posit. As it does center on a Chinese-Canadian tween girl and her family.
Which is to say that there is no controversy besides manufactured nothingburgers from racists (and the kind of people that want those taboos to stay in place).

Well, the cult song is in my head now.
Come along! You belong! Feel the fizz of Coo-Coo Cola!

Yes, there's a British-English dub for the film.
Furthermore, The Red Ape Family's second episode is out and unlisted. They attempted to throw some shade
with an in-universe "Saber Fart" caricature. Saber himself is now aware thanks to a fan on Twitter.
To me, it speaks volumes of the people in charge of the show that they chose to do that.

My AO3 profile. Let sleeping cats lie and be cute and calming.

I never understood a large amount of problems people had with it. I can understand the complaints with the visuals because while I don't outright hate them, I can't say I like them either.
Get taxed. Idiot.
