Sorry for the wait, ~Cosmic Ghost.
I'll open this for discussion.
Judging by the examples listed, I fear it may be Too Rare to Trope unless if we work on the definition. Only franchises are two comic book franchises...and Doctor Who.
Cut for now; can be revived since it's The Chosen Many but inverted.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!Wow, that's a bad name.
It also seems related to things like Uniqueness Decay or There is Another (or the inverse as such). Or even a version of Superhero Speciation or Cast Speciation.
We could probably merge this with its inversion. Examples would then be listed as "The Chosen Many: Inverted because [etc]"
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they pretty![]()
I agree. This is just an inversion of The Chosen Many which doesn't look common enough to be its own trope since only three properties (Marvel, DC, Doctor Who) are listed as having examples judging from both the on-page examples and wicks.
The trope's name made me think of Broken Pedestal, or something about when a character's legacy and the deeds they've done overshadow them so much that the actual person would never live up to what the populace expects.

with the most popular option so far, since we don't seem to have enough votes yet. Feel free to add more options.
Let's do it. Calling in favor of making the examples inversions of The Chosen Many and cutting.

I moved over the on-page examples (except ZCEs and natter) and turned Legacy Implosion into a redirect for now. Courtesy link to wick list

Crown Description:
What should be done with Legacy Implosion?

Despite having been created 13 years ago, it's only managed to accumulate 32 wicks and 351 visits. I do think it's tropeworthy, but needs a better description and some more indices.
