The Park

To be honest, Nelle doesn't really understand why the heck is someone even running around, giving notes to randos and telling them to meet up in the night, but she won't really mind. She just hopes the meeting will be quick. Her mommy must be really worrying about her randomly sneaking out in the night.

...Hopefully, she won't get grounded...

"W-Wa-Wait, so you're telling me that...this Jules lad found a dragon in the library?!", Nelle exclaimed in childish disbelief, "Like, a fire-breathing, slimy-scaled, in-the-flesh DRAGON?!", she continued asking Yuu even when he's still entranced by Venom's cuteness.

Oh gawwwd, she really wants to pet the "big black good boy", even though he's got pretty big teeth for a dog.

But then Jittery Lad went nuts and went on and on about how he doesn't trust scary-looking people because of a traumatic experience in which one shot him, and he killed them, and he was wanted by the military because of it and they wanted to kill him, making him kill more people...

...Jeez. That's a mouthful!

Nelle just came here to get answers about the giant diamond-beliied pink woman in her dream, not listen to some loon's war crimes!

"Wait, d-don't go!", Nelle exclaimed as Frohman ran away from the park, "Jittery Lad!!", she shouted one last time as the war criminal disappeared into the darkness of the night, leaving Nelle to stare at it with a slightly annoyed pout.

Well, ain't this day a treat?

She meets a weird woman (that she'll now call "Pinky" because it's just so goshdarn tiring for her to just refer to her as the "giant pink diamond belly woman" over and over again) in her dreams, someone else meets a dragon in a library, that dog has...TEETH, and that just happened...

To Nelle, it looked like her life just, like, grew limbs and had the great idea of climbing and balancing on the fence between normal and fairytale-ish, and she's got the feeling that things will become even crazier.

...and that kinda sounds like fun! An itsy-bitsy bit of fun...

Mob eventually stopped petting Venom, standing up straight and turning to Frohman neutrally as he went on his spiel. His brows furrowed minutely at the grim details in the older man's words, and opened his mouth to address them—but by then Frohman had rushed off, leaving Mob and the others to puzzle over them.

Or at least, Mob to puzzle over them. He honestly couldn't tell how much of what Frohman was saying was true.

【 37% 】

“Are you okay, Miss?” Mob asked of Nelle, seeing how she stared after the retreating form of Frohman and tilting his head to one side. “He sounded pretty strange. Mom and Dad said you don't have to deal with strange people.”

And I don't like how he was talking. He said about killing a lot.

“Anyway, I don't think we've met before,” he continued, voice remaining as that quiet monotone as he minutely turned towards Eddie and Venom again and gave them a nod of greeting as well. “It's true we met that Midnight person earlier, and those feathers did something strange. It seemed important though, so I didn't run away from that.”

And I needed to know about Ritsu.

“I think there's something really bad going on. That's what we're here for,” Mob continued, though his tone was hazy and he was sounding less and less sure of himself. “Things don't feel right. I hope it'll get fixed soon.”

I know my name now, though.

Marina checked where her veins should be when Kaito brought attention to his own. There did appear to be thin blue lines running through her wrists, but... when she applied pressure to them, there was no tactile response. Surely she should've felt even a little bump?

More damnably, when she brought two fingers up to her neck, she didn't feel any pulse beneath her skin. Even if there was blood in her body, it wasn't being pumped around like it should've been. So what did that mean? She was a robot? A homunculus? A-

Monster...

She snapped out of the thought when Otto came over to examine her. She did recoil at his words, though not for the reason he was expecting; no, it was only when he apologised for his fervour that Marina's hackles raised. "HEY!! You should never say sorry for being PASSIONATE about what you BELIEVE IN!" she yelled, holding the good doctor by his shoulders and shaking him quite vigorously. "If you got more questions then LAY THEM ON MEEEE!"

"Oh. That's good to know." Said Kaito after getting told the results of the test.

"So, now what? Is that jacket alive, and how is it alive? Why does it want blood? Why in the gods' sake does she have no blood? Why are some of our previous manners getting back now? Why am I unable to swear, even the mildest forms?" Started to rant and ask Kaito.

Crackling Radio Waves

Following what had been a few good minutes of ambient, calm music those few radios still turned on and tuned in at this late hour resume conventional broadcast.

"If you're just joining us, welcome" intones a smooth voice once the prerecorded ident fades away "I'm Lily and welcome to Graveyard Shift; your home for night music and tales of the macabre and strange. We're about to launch into the next episode of our spring science fiction midnight features and-" she stops, listening to something that does not broadcast for a moment before returning with a slightly annoyed tone of voice.

"I have been informed that we've got a caller, despite this show not usually having callers. You're um, on the air listener."

"Hey there Lily. You won't believe what I've found, it's perfect for the show!" comes the voice, tinny from the phone connection and almost a whisper.

"Sandra? You have a show tomorrow you shouldn't be up this late. Where are you?"

The Park, But Also In A Tree

"I'm in the park!" Sandra Napier exclaims as quietly and directed into her phone as she can "Someone managed to break into my room last night, dropped some note about the park so here I am doing some good ol' fashioned covert journalism."

There is a concerned pause before Lily on the other end of the phone line responds. "I see. And is there anything happening? I would not want to leave our listeners without some entertainment tonight."

"Right, yep. Okay so there's a bunch of people, like a lot of people for a late night and they seem to be talking among themselves and passing around feathers?"

"Well what are they talking about?" Lily's tone has changed, genuine intrigue tinging her words "Who is it? Is it locals or..?"

"Iiiiii'm not close enough to hear that. They're shouting a lot though, so whatever they're doing is probably a little emotional? I'm really not sure why I was told to come along to this though, think it might be a cult? Man that'd be cool, a weird cult in the middle of Summerside."

"Get in closer then. I want to know what this is all about." Lily sounds serious now, the faint sound of scrunching paper coming in over the call.

"Small problem, I'm in a tree" Sandra mutters, scooting further along a branch to hopefully hear the conversations properly "Before you ask, it was so I could hide better."

"Sandra. What did the note you received say?"

~creak~

Sandra grumbled a little bit and fished in her pockets for the paper "'Meet in the park tonight and listen to what midnight tells you. All will become clear.' it's super cryptic and sounded like a trap hence the hiding. Damn, a bunch of them are leaving but some dude with a big dog's here now. It's a pretty cool dog."

There is a long pause, long enough for Sandra to pull her phone back from her mouth to check she was still connected to the call. "Lily? Something wrong?" there's a deep sigh from the phone before her coworker replied.

"... Nick and I got the same message."

~crack~

"Whoa, spoo-"

The Park, No Longer in a Tree

~CRACK~

A redhead in red clothing and the thinner-than-anticipated branch she was perched on fall down hard, crashing into the ground as the phone is knocked out of Sandra's hands.

"Gah! Heck!"

Sandra rolls around on the ground, groaning and trying to regain her senses.

"Aaaaaaah... A-anything broken? Aaaanything broken?"

So much for hiding, observing and not getting involved.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Ironically, even as Frohman's answer only gave everyone more questions, none of them would get the slightest chance to ask him about it. The man apparently was so fed up at this point he just up and took his leave of them, disappearing down some random back alley without so much as a goodbye.
And at that, Yuu was left with a very, very strange feeling. One he hadn't felt for a long time.

138 out of thousands? Is that a lot? I never thought of it that way.

A dead calm set in. How odd.

He didn't remember ever holding a gun before, much less a full-blown rifle, but he could've sworn what he was feeling right now was the exact sensation of pressing down on a trigger like that.

Come to think of it...that's a little funny.

Yuu was dimly aware of the fact that his hand had stopped the petting motion and now hovered over Venom's face, his expression having gone completely blank—the action somehow devoid of malice yet at the same time overflowing with it.

How many was that 'count', exactly?

How many people have I kille—

Then Nelle's voice broke into reality, and just like that, the thoughts were all gone.
As what he'd done dawned on him, he twitched. Maybe once. Twice. And pulled away. He paused, beginning to mull it over, but the moment faded from his memory almost as instantly as it had happened.

So soon enough Yuu decided it was nothing—backing off and flashing the dog a sheepish smile by way of apology. "Sorry, Venom. I think I'm just tired."

At that point there wasn't much else to do but address the question. "Well, it didn't really look like a real dragon. Jules summoned it," he started, slowly. "Maybe it was a type of illusion? Or magic?" It had jumped out of a book's pages and just disappeared, after all. What with everything Midnight told them, the latter wasn't anywhere out of the question.

Before he could muse about it any further, though, a cry from above quickly redirected his attention.

CRASH

Yuu's head instantly snapped in the direction of the noise, gaze falling on a woman prone on the ground a distance behind them. "Miss—?! What happened?"
The boy rushed over to where she was lying, "rushed" being more defined by "to the best of his ability", and hurried to help as she flailed about in pain. Thankfully, she didn't look injured, at least. But—noticing as he got closer—were those leaves stuck to her clothes?

That would explain her dropping out of nowhere, but why would she be up in that tree, anyway?

Shaking off the momentary confusion, Yuu offered his good hand to the woman, if she had recovered enough to try to get up.

"Are you alright?"

Well, that’d be jus’ a waste. Why would ya want to deprive the world of such anomaly as yourself?

"Oh, um..I'm fine.", Nelle replied to Mob, slightly sheepish, "I'm just not used to dealing with people like him, but thank you nonetheless.", she sofly smiled.

But yeah, she doesn't have to deal with Jittery Lad. She just leave him there to be his paranoid, war criminal self...

Anyway, Nelle noticed that Yuu looked shaken from Frohman's breakdown. The masked boy was instantly stripped of all of his bubbliness.

This whole feather ordeal gave her a bad feeling. Is this Midnight person going to come her and give them weird feathers? What will happen after that?

Nelle's string of mental questions would suddenly halt as someone falls from a nearby tree.

"Are you okay?", she ran up to the lass, with a bit of worry.

Finally, Victor Scaletta had worked up the courage to return to the park. Once again wearing his trademark leather jacket and this time trading his Sisters of Mercy T-shirt for a Siouxsie and The Banshees shirt, the unhinged Goth decided to go unarmed, or at least not visibly brandishing any weapons and keeping his pistol and knife in a backpack along with a first aid kit, some ammunition, and a flashlight.

Returning to the park, he saw a crowd had gathered. Some were faces he saw before and others were completely new. Sitting at the bench, the young man had decided to just be blunt and address the others, at this point no longer caring if he looked insane.

"Alright, I'm done hiding in my house and denying what's going on. It's time I joined in and took a more active role in what's going on. For those of you who don't know me, my name's Victor Scaletta but you can call me Vito. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been having all these weird nightmares. A lot of crazy fucked up shit has been going on and it's time I stopped trying to hide and instead get shit done and get to the bottom of this. So, who's here and what needs to be done? If you need help, I have military experience. I was a field medic in Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division."

Otto-Ito Household

(Noise of someone's head wobbling around)

"Well, I.." He took a moment to collect himself and gently pull her hands off his shoulders."I have a lot of questions, as do we all. Who are you? Who am I? Why are we here? Who is Midnight? We all seem to be having some dissociative episodes about our own identities...why?" He frowned. "I don't like the idea of someone messing around in my head, not least as a student of neuroscience...It's a disturbing thought."

He glanced back at Marina. "And your own issue here is disquieting. You don't seem to be suffering any ill effects. What's more, you weren't aware of any difference. This tells me that a lot of your perceptions may be false as well. And that likely you're not alone in this."

Pushing up his glasses, Otto stood for a moment, thinking. "Someone has broken into our heads and put us into this strange place after inserting false memories in our heads. With no indication that this would have changed if Midnight didn't appear."

"As I said, disturbing. And I'm getting irritated by the thought that someone is trying to manipulate me..."

Venom kinda nods. It's okay.

Eddie snaps his head to Sandra before turning around entirely to get a good look at Vito too.

He moves towards Sandra and crouches down, Venom casually moving there alongside him.

Eddie: "You okay?"

He says this as he motions Vito over. He noted that Vito said he was a medic, and if this lady was hurt, well...

His mind wanders. It seems like everyone was spacing out all of a sudden. That Midnight lady still hasn't shown up for them, and what Frohman said... It seemed to awaken something in a lot of people here.

Venom:    "Don't worry about it too much. Come and visit Midnight, and all shall be revealed..."

Venom chuckles to himself.

Venom:    "Memories. Things that seem like dreams. Frohman's running from them, and this Vito guy just stopped doing the same thing."

Venom sighs.

Venom:    "And this is only the start. But right now, Eddie, focus on remembering."

Eddie comes back to earth, so to speak, and blinks, beginning to come to terms with the fact that Venom is talking. Or something. Maybe he's just tired...

As the others talked amongst themselves, Yui just stared at the clothes. She didn't react to anything being asked of her, not even a flinch. All she did was think.

Eventually, she stepped forwards and grabbed the now sleeping outfit and tossed a, "they're guests, look after them until they decide to leave," at her butler. After that, she stepped into her bedroom and slammed the door shut.

She was surprisingly gentle as she placed the clothes on her wardrobe. Something was going on, and she just wanted answers. With a sigh, she placed the feather from earlier on her nightstand and fell directly onto her bed, falling asleep.

The somewhat frazzled looking butler seemed to thrive off of the instruction, pulling himself to his feet and clearing his throat. "Well, ah, now then. Can I get anyone any refreshments?"

I say that aloud too sometimes, just: "man, no life."

Immediately taking notice of the injured woman after making his delayed introduction, Vito sprang into action, getting out his first aid kit and putting on some protective gloves.

"You okay? Can you understand me? What's your name?" asked the former soldier as he checked to see if she had a concussion or any other major injuries and getting the proper equipment from his first aid kit to patch her up.

"I just got here, so can anyone tell me what happened here? If it's really bad, we should probably call an ambulance and get her to a hospital. Until then, let's stay calm and try to get through this without panicking."

As if answering their questions, Midnight once again emerged from her hole.

"Eh? More? Strange. Expect this I did not."

She smiles at them- "odd" does not begin to describe how weird it is to see a translucent badger speaking English (albeit with a Yoda-like sentence structure) and smiling at you.

"Midnight my name is. Answers have I. Great destiny you must face."

She briefed them as she had the group before, of how the multiverse was at risk of collapse, of how they were not of this world, before giving them their own memory feathers as well. By then, the night was no longer young, and most of the townspeople made their way home to bed....

Sandra sits against the tree quietly, silently through the explanation and just looks bewildered as she's handed a glistening red feather.

"Okay maybe I did hit my head because it feels like I'm hallucinating..."

Which is the moment the feather in her hand bursts into flame. Sandra stares at the feather, mutters something under her breath and promptly faints.

This place was named Naktamun

I remember the shattered sandstone plaza, the obelisks fallen on each other and the crumbling edifices of five statues of gods. There were bodies, I remember corpses soon to rise to life amid the rubble and plant life wilting in the desert sun. And I remember a golden dragon standing imperiously amid it all.

This is my defeat.

I'm moving to encircle. A barrage on all sides from five different types of magic should be enough to overpower the dragon's defenses. It was the best plan we had, and it went wrong from the word go.

We begin, a golden shield around one of my companions charges forward to engage the dragon in a melee brawl, the corpses around us start moving under the strings of the puppet-mistress, vines burst forth as the elf across from me turned the world against the dragon and I... I was fire.

Hair aflame, flares twisting through the air to splash seemingly harmlessly against the dragon's hide. I would later find one better than me at this art of pyromancy but for now I felt like the strongest flame in the multiverse. Things start going wrong.

I see a familiar face flash from gritted determination to a stunned confusion and I remember a name: Jace Beleren. Something's wrong, the telepathy connecting me and the other four is breaking apart. I'm too busy weaving a fresh gout of flame to hear his frantic attempts to break through the dragon's mental defenses and when a scream cuts across the plaza I look to see Jace crumple, writhing in pain before he vanishes in a flash of blue.

"That was your mind expert, I believe? Do you have a spare? I can wait, or I promise not to listen if you shout at each other."

I stop, my hair fading back to it's usual auburn mundanity as I try and take in what had happened and catch a familiar face momentarily glance at the artifact on her belt and move to grab it. I remember her name: Liliana Vess, that traitor. And what did she do? She talked. She engaged the dragon in polite conversation while the rest of us scrambled to actually come up with a plan. We tried to intervene, prevent her from being stupid but it was too little too late.

"Where do you want me to go?"

My anger reaches a fever pitch, hair and hands alight. We trusted her. I trusted her! And then she's gone in a cloud of black fog. And the dragon laughs.

"And then there were three. I didn't want to annoy your dear departed necromancer, but between us, I admit I know a fair bit of necromancy. Do you have an opening in your Gatewatch? Is there some type of application process?"

"Shut up!"

I... I remember something more recent, in the memories that in comparison feel like so much cheap cardboard; Little green creature that talked like the badger lecturing about anger and hate being bad and a path to the dark. It was a cute sentiment, but anger and hate are fuel and it's all in how you direct it. White flames dance before me and for the first time today it feels like I've hurt that bastard dragon.

"Gideon! Nissa! We can do this!"

Those familiar faces, I remember their names: Nissa Revane and Gideon Jura. In that moment we thought the tide of battle was turning. It was not. The dragon lifts into the air and I don't have the range to pull that stunt again but I keep burning my mana regardless just to try. And then the dragon says my name:

"Chandra Nalaar. You had so many useful characteristics. Powerful. Emotionally unstable. Easy to manipulate. Refreshingly predictable unpredictability. I really wanted to make this work."

Night turns to day as my fire intensifies.

"But fire, against a dragon? A dragon. I have standards."

And the dragon dove and I prepared for a blaze of glory. If I had to die to kill— the dragon... So be it. Nissa intervened, saved me if that's the right way to call it. But everything went wrong, crashing earth knocking me into pain and extinguishing the fire in my veins. It felt like dying, blood shedding and bones cracking within me and I couldn't save... I couldn't save anyone. All I could do was leave before I died.

So I left. I let my tenuous connection to the plane of Amonkhet fade and cast myself into the multiverse, wishing to Walk somewhere safe. And in my pain I swore revenge on— On...

Why can't I remember the dragon's name?

Hours Later...

Sandra wakes, her first sight the blazing orange light of dawn. She stays there for a bit, watching the sun rise over what she had thought was real for so long—...

She stops herself, thoughts halting in place as she swallows back the rising implications. It was no use to just sit and proclaim the world isn't real when you're still living in it, there was jobs that needed doing this morning and if this vivid dream was real then there were four faces among her friends... Friends for now she corrected. Lily was the problem if this life in Wisconsin was merely a facade over her true self.

With a sigh she stumbles to her feet, locates her phone and starts walking. She had a morning show to broadcast...

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

"Children? I have a present for you."

Both twins stopped. Standing in front of them was Manfroy, their father's...well, no one entirely knew what he did, but he certainly did something or else he wouldn't be kept around. Julius nervously glanced around, and with a jolt, he realized they were alone.

"What do you want?" Julia asked with a sigh. "I have things to do."

"I'm sure you do, Your Highness, but before you go..." He drew a book from the folds of his robe. "Would either of you be interested in this?"

It looked like a magic tome, only instead of red or green or blue, it was a deep violet, with a black dragon on the cover. Julius had no clue why, but he was drawn to it.

"What is it?" Julia asked, face twisting into a scowl. "If it's a tome, I'm already inheriting Naga."

"It is indeed a tome. But this one is different. This one can only be used..." For a moment, Manfroy's eyes flick to Julius. "By the most special person in these times."

That got Julia's attention. "Special?" She grinned. "I happen to be the holder of major Naga blood, so if anyone's special, it's me." She held out her hand expectantly.

Manfroy smiled. "If that's what you want, Your Highness." He took a few steps towards her.

"Wait!"

Julius didn't know who was the most surprised at his interjection—Julia, Manfroy, or himself.

Both of them turned to him, and he suddenly felt a lump in his throat. Swallowing hard, he said. "I-I want it. I can use it."

Julia scoffed. "You? You don't even have major holy blood."

"I know, but there's just...something about it. I can use it, I-I know I can." He looked up at Manfroy. "Right?"

Manfroy blinked, then slowly smiled. "Right you are, Prince Julius." He held out the tome. "Well?"

Julius hesitated, wondering why Manfroy was so eager to hand the tome over. Eventually, though, he couldn't resist.

He grabbed it.

GYAAAAAAAAAAAAH—

"AAAAAH!" Jules yelled, shooting upwards in bed. "What the—"

Good morning to you too, Loptous said, and Jules groaned, flopping back onto his bed. "I forgot about you," he muttered.

I would've thought myself as hard to forget. A pause. Oh! You're not still on about how yesterday never happened, right?

"No," Jules said, getting out of bed (his head felt much heavier, for some reason). "By 'no', I mean, 'didn't happen'. I've had enough weirdness for the rest of my life, thank you very much."

All he got in return was a sigh.

"Look inside yourself and to the stars; there, you will find your answers."

He quickly went to put his clothes and important things in backpacks, bags and that sort of thing. Next thing he needs is to call Eddie to give him the damn fake ID. And also tell him to get the fuck outta here. Hopefully he isn't busy scamming idiots.

Honnouji Academy

After getting all of the information she could out of her teacher (she really wished he'd stop getting naked every time she just wanted answers), Ryuko felt ready to beat Satsuki's ass into the ground.

Life fibers, they weren't important, not really. All she wanted was to get revenge on the person she knew killed her dad. Satsuki was going to pay, without a doubt. That bitch calling her out in the middle of school, as if she was going to let herself lose.

Well, that was until Satsuki pulled out her own kamui. Ryuko and Senketsu weren't exactly ready to handle someone that powerful on their own, especially with how distracted Ryuko was by all of the skin she had to show off.

She had Satsuki beating her ass and Senketsu in her ear talking about wearing her and being worn by her, it ended up in a lot of pain for Ryuko. Eventually, the school was busted and she was in a pile on the ground, almost unconscious.

Just as Satsuki was about to land the finishing blow, a familiar face popped up in between them.

"Come on Ryuko, get naked!" Mako shouted, "I know for a fact that you, yes you, are not inferior to Lady Satsuki! Your boobs are WAY bigger than hers! Way bigger! I know, 'cause I saw 'em! That Ryuko, my family said, she's got a great rack! We were all talking about what a slamming body you have! So perk up, and stop being embarrassed, rip your clothes off, and get NAKEEEEEEED!"

The silence was deafening. Ryuko was mostly distracted by getting her boobs grabbed to really process Mako's words at first. But when she saw Satsuki about to attack Mako, it felt like all of the puzzle pieces fell into place.

Being embarrassed by Senketsu just meant rejecting him, and rejecting him meant he needed even more blood to be half as strong as they could be if they just worked together.

Once again, she let him drink her blood, and she felt powerful. So powerful she could wipe the smug smile off of Satsuki's face.

The Ito Household

Just as Ryu- Yui? Ryuko?

Just as she was about to see who won the battle, Jeeves let out an exclamation of shock loud enough to jar her out of her sleep.

"Eh, what the hell, Jeeves?" she complained, sitting up with a hand on her head, "I know I didn't change before getting into bed bu-"

"Miss Yui, we've been robbed!"

"W-what?!" Yui roared, jumping to her feet. Just one look and she could see what he meant, her wardrobes and closet were wide open and completely empty. "Who the hell steals all of the clothes!?" she yelled, then remembered what happened last night, where she threw...

"Senketsu!" she cried, checking where she threw him. Instead, there was a note.

Want your clothes back, Ito? Meet us at the football field and we'll talk.

The yell of anger Yui made could almost certainly be heard across town. She let that anger power her all the way to the park on her bike.

A distant yell echoed from...somewhere, and Jules jolted. "What was that?" he wondered out loud.

The black-haired girl—what was her name? Yui? It sounded rather like her. She did shout a lot.

Jules nodded. He entered the bathroom, turned on the lights, and almost screamed.

"WHAT?!" he yelled, jerking back from his reflection like he just saw a ghost. "What— How— Why—"

Suddenly, his head feeling heavy made much more sense.

Overnight, he'd changed. His hair had gone from copper to crimson, and had grown from barely brushing against his shoulders to just above his waist. His eyes had changed too, turning from reddish-brown to the same crimson of his hair.

"I— I don't— What the—"

Oh, good, you finally look like you.

"No I don't!" Jules yelled. "I-I don't look like me! I look like a stranger!"

Look on the bright side. At least you can't pretend yesterday didn't happen.

"That's not a bright side! At all! I—" Jules groaned. "Hold on."

Following a much longer morning routine than usual—oh Naga, he had far too much hair—Jules grabbed the nearest hair tie and threw as much of his hair into a bun as possible. Then he shifted through his closet, looking for a hat. Eventually, he found and put on a wide-brimmed floppy one.

He put the hat on, then looked at himself in the mirror and breathed a sigh of relief. The hat looked a little dumb, and his eyes were still red, but other than that he looked...normal.

You're really wearing that?

"Yep." With that said, Jules left the house and headed into town.

Guerreiro Household

A lot had happened that day, so even though Marina arrived home late- sometime after midnight, once the hassle at Yui's household had settled down- it took a long while until she could rest. Too many thoughts keeping her awake, and she didn't like thinking at the best of times. No surprise that, when the balmy night air and gentle rocking of the hammock eventually did take her, it wasn't to a place of comfort.

No, she was taken to hell.

Lava flowed in a thick river far below the wooden bridge, its heat so tremendous that it permeated every nook and cranny of Hotland. She couldn't move, trapped in the burning metal prison of her own armour. At this most crucial moment, with the child stood right in front of her, she had failed. She would turn to dust, and everyone in the Underground would continue to be trapped, all because she was too weak to kill one stupid, measly kid...

And what a place to die too. She really did hate Hotland.

Splash!

The water immediately soaked into her pores, and a parching breath wheezed through Undyne as her strength returned, just enough for her to struggle back to her feet. The kid was still there, an empty glass in hand, staring at her with those strange, squinting eyes of theirs. No weapon. No intent to fight. Ripe for the picking.

Was that the kind of monster she was? The kind to pick off a defenceless child who'd just saved her life?

How would she look Alphys and Papyrus in the eye after something like that?

The wood beneath her shuddered and creaked as Undyne beat a hasty retreat, the heat still clinging to her as she suddenly shot up out of sleep, gasping in lungfuls of the tepid morning air.

What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck-

She tumbled out of the hammock, scrambled to her feet, barely having the sense of mind to throw on some outdoor clothing before she was racing out of the apartment, the damp feather that she'd procured from the sack laying forgotten on her bedstand. The sun was barely poking over the pink horizon when she left, and had steadily climbed up into the sky by the time Marina arrived at the park. Her lungs begged for air, but when she took in a deep breath, it was only to expel it seconds later as a deafening shout.

The Story So Far

Upon holding the feather, Victor Scaletta realized who he really was.

He was born Vito Antonio Scaletta in Sicily in 1925 and emigrated to the United States as a small child. There were so many eerie parallels with his own life that it just seemed too real. His past self even served in the same division of the United States Army, only it was in World War II instead of Afghanistan.

But then it got darker...

He remembered his life of crime, of his mother dying while he was doing time in prison, of him becoming a mobster and the war with the Triad gangsters and his part in the murders of Alberto Clemente and Carlo Falcone, and the death of his best friend Joe Barbaro.

Then came his exile to Louisiana and his time in the city of New Bordeaux, in which he took the side of Lincoln Clay and helped bring down the crime lord Sal Marcano. Lincoln rewarded him with control of the city after Marcano's downfall and while Lincoln Clay left the city and went on the road never to be seen again, Vito Scaletta achieved the impossible and had not only gotten gambling legalized in Louisiana, he also became a multi-millionaire in his own right.

Waking up from his visions, Vito began to ponder....

"Damn, I did a lot of terrible things in my past life, but it looks like if I can redeem myself and do good, I can ultimately earn my happy ending."

The Park

Deciding to regroup with the others, Vito Scaletta returned to the park yet again, hoping to see the mysterious person who gave him the feather as well as anyone else he had met in the past couple of days.

As Jules walked down the street, he was almost bowled over by someone biking at what might well have been Mach 1.

"A-ah!" he gasped, stumbling to the side. "W-what the—?!"

He stopped, staring after her. "Was that Yui?"

Certainly looks like her. Loptous clicked his tongue. Where is she going?

Jules thought a moment. "The school, but...it's summer. Why would she..."

Shall we find out?

"...sure. I have nothing better to do."

And with that, he dashed after Yui.

Otto

He'd tossed and turned all that night. Certainly, his rare indulgence in whiskey and red-pepper chips hadn't helped the good doctor fall asleep any sooner, but eventually, he did manage to drift off. The strange red-and-blue feather had been carefully placed on a shelf nearby for further examination in the morning, and Otto had cast it a dark glance before finally lying down in bed.

He was back in the ruined city. Now he recognized it, however: New York City. There was smoke everywhere. Multiple fires, and smells that told him things were only getting worse. Ozone. Fear. Cordite. Decay.

I've never been there! Why am I dreaming about a place like this?

A police car blurred towards him, and Otto was unable to move out of the way before it simply went through him as if he were a ghost. Two more whistled past in the opposite direction followed by the sound of gunfire and an explosion.

Turning, Dr. Octavius saw something that made him freeze in place. A billboard overhanging the street bore the name OSBORNE in fancy script, with the smiling face of a red-haired man in a dark green suit towering over Otto. He could feel his fists clench, and suddenly his heart was pounding so hard he thought it might simply give out.

Some shape moved out of the corner of his eye, and Otto watched as a lithe red and blue shape swung through the air and landed impossibly on the side of the sign. A bright white emblem of a spider stretched across the figure's chest, and huge insectile eyes stared down at the terrified scientist.

With inhuman speed, it leaped to the street and scuttled towards him. HELLO, OTTO, it whispered. THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT. YOU DID THIS. YOU MURDERED THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?

"NOOOO!" He felt as if his vocal cords would tear, as if his lungs would freeze, as if his mind would simply fall apart like wet cardboard. "No, I didn't I couldn't I never...I never...." He was on his knees, the dirt of the city leaking through his slacks. His eyes were shut tight, but Otto could feel the Spider-thing looming over him.

Then Otto surged to his feet. He shot out an arm, and something followed his commands, grabbing the hideous creature by the neck and lifting it off the ground. He could feel the tears of rage coursing down his face, but Otto didn't care. With a savage gesture, the metallic tendril brought the wriggling being down onto the sidewalk again. And again. And again. Again. He heard bones cracking, moans of pain, but the tentacle kept going like a metronome. Soon the costume was entirely red, but he did not stop.

So tired. I am so tired. I work and work to save myself, to SAVE THIS CITY and it never ends. I...I just want to sleep. Otto sank down onto the pavement, not even sparing a look for the sodden mass nearby. His eyes closed, and Otto Octavius simply went away.

Back in his house, movement could be seen. Something climbing the stairs. Opening the door to his room. A shining arm circled the man's shoulders and gently sat him up in bed. Another offered a pair of old welder's goggles.

Dr. Octopus opened his eyes and smiled. "Thank you. I'm all right now. Time to go to work."

Frohman-Park

"Damnit Eddie, you don't understand the gravity of the situation, I want out now! I don't care if I have to pay you extra, I want the fake ID now!"

Frohman was walking on the road near the park as he carried most of his belongings in a backpack and bags, while holding his phone on the right hand and talking to it, and holding some weird looking pills in the left hand.

"I don't know about you, but I would bail too if I were you. No, just stop chewing that damn jawbreaker for a second and listen. This place is not only a cult, but it also houses psychopathic kids and other people. You better make like a tree and leave. Trust me! Look, I'll talk to you later. I gotta call a uber or a taxi or whatever the fuck it needs to be to get out of this place. Promise me you will get me to India!"

Frohman then finished the call, as he hurriedly opened the pills and ate some of them, all while shaking in panic. He then put the pills in his pocket, and seemed to be calling for a transport nearby. He kept looking around worried about getting caught by any people, and looked around for a bit before continuing on his phone.
