There can still be plenty of tragedy and mindbreak to come. It'll just be something new instead of the same shit we saw decades ago.
I will take a remake that turns into its own thing/a sequel over a sequel that turns out to be a soulless remake every day of the week
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyIt is implied that it might be an alternate timeline but the fact that they bothered to show it at all says it's probably going to affect stuff.

This song needs more love.I mean, I like Zack but this is very :|
I can hear the shrieks of the Cloud/Aerith shippers from here
Bewitching Eyes@Airman: And what exactly makes you so sure it's not gonna be souless pandering instead?
They already brough Zack Back from the Dead.
Quoting my post in the other thread to sum up how I feel about these changes:
And that's kind of why my attitude isn't "well I'm curious to see where this goes"; Nojima (who's working with Nomura on this remake) hasn't been a good writer in a very long time, and Nomura's lack of aptitude towards storytelling has already been established. I agree that changes aren't inherently bad, but it's difficult to get excited when the track record and what we've seen so far highly indicates the new stuff is going to be nonsense, unless you're looking forward to it in a So Bad, It's Good way.
The thing that bothers me is that a lot of the story is very flashy. In that sort of "Advent Children, style over substance" kind of way.
And I'm bothered less by Zack living, even if that does affect the entire plot, than I am time traveling Sephiroth or nobody dying when the plate fell. Seriously, that last one is just... I'm incredulous thinking about it. The rest was the kind of fanservice stuff I could expect, especially with people asking for a "Save Aerith DLC", but really?
Watch it be compensated by horrific massacres later on the game.
Or watch as the WEAPONS won't kill anyone. Those building are all totally empty.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Not every story needs a What If? causality mechanism that establishes alternate worlds. Especially when it does not exist in the world's cosmology to begin with.
I mean, consciousness-defying clones and parasitic organisms were part of FFVII's cyberpunk themes, which made Advent Children at least logical as a premise. Whether it was needed or done well is an entirely different matter.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - Fighteer

The thing I find the funniest about the remake is that everyone hated the dumb ghost things when they were first revealed, and then Cloud and Co. kill them and it's revealed that all they wanted was to keep the events of Final Fantasy VII the same instead of letting Nomura do whatever the fuck he is.
